. y/n nearly forgot how to do that. she was being suffocated by her own quirk. the claws of something that was supposed to be apart of her tore at every inch of her being, inside and out. she was suffering and she wanted out. her wrapped bandages were a disgusting red, every time she moved she felt the tear of skin stretch and snatch away from each other for another wound. winces and groans fell from her her lips as she wrapped her arms around her stomach, painfully, biting her lip to express how much she was hurting.
she was in so much pain.
she told her parents she wanted a few moments alone with hitoshi to talk to him and let him know of her condition before she passed. she knew it would happen soon, her demon was making that clear.
the girl inhaled weakly, exhaled quickly, a small whimper fell from her lips and warm tears rolled down her cheeks. she wanted sleep. she wanted to just go and never wake up. for a split second- she didn't mind. for quick second she wanted to let herself go immediately. if she died, then her demon died. would that be easier?
"y/n."
that voice caused her to inhale sharply. she turned her head, glassy red eyes met ones that looked exactly like hers, if not for the purple irises... anything. she could've said anything. she could've started explaining herself. telling him how much he meant to her. how she never meant to hurt him. how now, she was just tired and wanted to shut her heavy eye lids for the promise of forever peace. but she was stuck. frozen.
she smiled, "hitoshi." y/n sat up and leaned against the headboard of her bed, acting as normal as she could. "i think today is the perfect day to just sleep." she released a choked breath, breathing was a struggle and it hurt.
it was quiet for a moment as hitoshi stood in the door frame of her room, staring at his friend suffering from her quirk. she texted him to come over as there was something she needed to tell him. he had an idea, but he didn't want to be right. clinging onto the last bit of hope he had, he thought maybe they would watch movies, eat snacks... do anything but talk with the atmosphere in the room at the moment. he was scared.
hitoshi swallowed and slowly walked over to her bedside, eyes scanning over her bloody bandages. it seemed as if the boy didn't know what to say. he opened his mouth, then shut it again, then blinked, his eyes staying pressed shut for a few seconds. he sighed softly, staring up at the ceiling his voice strained when he asked, "why's that?"
y/n's breath got caught for a split second and blinked when she felt a stinging in her nose, she took her bottom lip between her teeth, "hitoshi, my quirk is- im..." the girl took in more air, staring up at her friend who had the same teary eyes as her.

hitoshi blinked and quickly looked away when the first tear spilled over, "i know." he spoke quietly, lifting his fingers to his nose.
y/n dropped her gaze down, but took hitoshi's hand to sit him down on the bed, right next to her. she tried swallowing down her upcoming cries, but failed and her face was suddenly wet with tears that continued to spill over, "i-i'm sorry, hito-"
"no, it's okay y/n, it's okay," hitoshi's own face was suddenly flushed and wet when he gently pulled y/n's face into his neck, combing his fingers through her locks. he shut his eyes painfully, pressing his face into her hair has his body gently shook, he struggled to speak, his throat was aching painfully, "don't apologize, it's all okay."
"i should've told you sooner," y/n buried her face further into hitoshi' neck, "i was scared... and didn't tell you anything..."
"i'm glad," hitoshi said quietly, taking in a breath and attempting to pull himself together. the boy knew she was hiding something like this, but he couldn't help but let all of his worry about the matter, simply disappear when he actually spent time with her. he didn't know it was death exactly, he thought her problem was much lighter, "i'm actually grateful you didn't tell me.. i would've gone crazy with that kind of information. i wouldn't have known what to do with myself and we would've wasted so much time on worrying and crying..."
y/n wiped at her eyes, and tried to smile "yeah, which is totally why i didn't tell you, aha..." she laughed a little, letting head fall against hitoshi's shoulder again.
hitoshi shook his head, "you're still joking," he laughed, taking y/n's hand, squeezing it tightly as his tears mixed with his laughter.
he was confused.
he was laughing and crying at the same time and he couldn't explain it. he almost felt relieved that he knew, relieved she could finally get away from the pain of her own quirk, but his heart ached.
"how are you feeling right now, y/n?"
"tired." y/n sighed. "in pain, especially... my quirk is really trying to rip me open and destroy my insides because it's had enough, i guess. and my body isn't strong enough to fight it back." she gestured the bandages wrapped around her stomach which blood was starting to seep through, telling her that her time was up.
"there's no way this could be solved?" hitoshi asked desperately. he bit his lip and pressed his lids together, eyes burning with the upcoming tears again. his face was hot and his entire being shook with fear of what would happen in the next few seconds, "this really sucks. it more than sucks."
"i'm sorry." she said quietly. "hitoshi i'm so sorry, really. i shouldn't have..." y/n shook her head.
"none of this is your fault." the purple haires boy immediately told her. "you're the victim of your own quirk and..." he gave up on his sentence, thinking it wouldn't have been fair to tell her how much he wanted her there for most of his life, really.

the plan was for her to be there. not for anything in particular. he jusy wanted her there. for everything.
"i know it's my quirk but i should have just kept to myself. stayed home with my parents. now i'm hurting you, when you could just be in the dark about all of this..." y/n quickly wiped at her wet eyes, but it was useless when the tears were still spilling over. "a-and i was afraid if i told you days after we became friends, you would start avoiding me or something. maybe become too afraid to talk to me?"
"you think if i knew you were dying, i would've stayed away? avoided you? i know how that feels. ive had people turn their backs on me because of something i had. i-i would never... wouldn't have ever done that to you. either way, we would have became friends. i would have had feelings for you... we would still be in the same position as now, whether you told me or not because you can't help the things your heart longs for. my heart has been searching for someone like you and in no version of how these events played out would that be different and it just sucks that the most amazing thing is being taken away from both of us."
"it's only been two weeks of knowing you, but, i don't know i just..." y/n paused. "you really made them the best. i..." y/n cut herself off when she felt a heavy piercing in her chest. she pressed the palm of her hand to herself, confused as to how she was supposed to breathe with the pain.
hitoshi's heart dropped to his stomach, beginning to beat furiously, a cold sweat caused a quiver to course through him as his eyes shifted over to the girl, lifting her head from his shoulder. the claws of her quirk had pierced her skin. he looked down at her stomach to see the red wetness that soaked her shirt, and his breath got caught in his throat when he realized she was struggling. this was it, she was dying.
but it wasn't supposed to be like that. she was struggling, suffering.
"y/n."
one hand went to cup the girl's cheek, the other pressing to her stomach, staining his fingers with red, and he turned his head to call for the girl's parents. they couldn't really help, but they should be there with y/n's last few breaths, he didn't know it would happen so quick.
hitoshi knew her parents were now there, and he wanted to pull away so they could get their last moments in but he couldn't. he looked back at the adults who nodded silently with flushed faces. her mother cried quietly, "she wants to be with you."
hitoshi shook his head. he couldn't believe this was happening. why was the room so hot all of the sudden? why was everything going so fast? he hated that he couldn't grasp a hold on the situation.
he put his forehead to hers as he squeezed his eyes shut. his lips trembled with a silent cry and warm steady tears ran down his cold face. "not yet, not yet, please. come on, y/n- come on!" his voice didn't come out right, broken and shallow with heavy breaths, he couldn't swallow properly as he felt like he was choking and running out of oxygen.
"hitoshi," y/n's voice was strained and she gasped, a hand going over hitoshi's to press at her stomach. "i'm tired and ready and i don't want to do this anymore," she shook her head, smiling when she felt the warmth of hitoshi's large, bloody hands cup her face delicately.
"life really fucked up," hitoshi said quietly. this was it. this was the tragedy. he was forced into realizing something he's already known. but he didn't want it to happen like this. he sniffled and dropped his head weakly. "i don't want you to go yet."
"hitoshi, just become the number one hero. and do what makes you happy." y/n smiled despite the fact she was bleeding and in pain, from all of the torn skin in every part of her body. cuts were everywhere.
ragged breaths and a choking sound made hitoshi frowned as he shook his head, eyes filling up with tears again- "she's in pain." he coursed his fingers through her hair, "she's leaving in pain... y/n, can you stay with me?" he laced his large fingers with the girl's. he needed to do the only thing she really asked of him and death itself.
"im with you, hitoshi, i'm with you. it's fine, i'm fine right here," y/n struggled against her pain, swallowing became hard, but she nodded, "just in your arms, remember?"
"let me use my quirk on you, okay?" hitoshi said quietly, tucking y/n's hair behind her ear, tears in his eyes and staining his cheeks whenever he blinked. "i can make all of this go away, you can leave in peace, painless, and quiet, in my arms- just like you wanted, okay? i can put you to sleep and you won't feel a thing i promise. this is how i'll save you."
"mhm, do it." y/n didn't have much energy and the peaceful, painless promise of forever peace sounded like heaven for her.
hitoshi sucked in air, wondering what question. it could've been simple- no. it couldn't have. her last words to him and what did he want to hear? no- how did he want to respond? "do you love me?"
y/n smiled with a gentle nod at the question, her hands placing themselves over hitoshi's. "i do."
"i love you too..." he said, being able to see the largest grin on y/n's face, her expression said 'i know, dummy' before he activated his quirk. "go to sleep, y/n."
