His scythe cut clean through the prowler's neck, ugly deformed body slumping onto the ground, but Jungkook didn't pay it a thought as he was a already back in the air, attention on the next prowler.

He was on a resource hunt downtown, keeping himself busy with cleaning the streets from the endless prowlers. Alone.

Because Y/N was catching up with her sister, somewhere safe and sound inside the refugee.

"Good for her." Jungkook mumbled, next swing performed with too much force, having the scythe get stuck in the table underneath the prowler.

It's not like he wasn't trying to be happy for her. It was just hard to feel this kind of... selfless compassion for another person, when empathy in general went against everything he'd learned up until now.

He'd thought after the past night he wouldn't have to worry about these kinda things, but it only seemed to having gotten worse. The closer he got to her, the more he was being confronted with hat ugly feeling he didn't want to label.

Long limbs reached for him, falling onto the ground within a matter of seconds and only one swing of his weapon, before he moved on to the rest of the body.

Maybe it was just hard for him to realize that there were other important people in her life. People who kew her even longer, even better than him. Family.

"I'm-" He kicked the head of another prowlers in, "-family." His blade thundered down onto a slimy head, splitting it in half.

He liked to think that leaving her alone at the Hotel would be easier if it weren't for the weirdos that seemed to hide in every corner of the refugee. Creeps 1000 times worse than him, lurking around like rats.

It was really hard for him to see them as something other than targets.

Targets.

He smiled bitterly when he send yet another prowler flying into the next wall with a kick, hilt of the blade smashing into it's ribcage with enough force to make it burst.

He hadn't been able to pin point the alienated feeling he'd gotten in the refugee until now.

It was simply the feeling of being surrounded by targets. People Dino would've made him kill before - it all made his new life in normality that much harder.

"Oi, boy," A middle aged man who was missing the hair on top of his head nudged Jungkook's shoulder, "Yer new, right? Wanna join us for a drink?"

Jungkook stared at the man wordlessly, taking in details such as the dirt underneath his nails or the scars on his neck, deciding that this guy probably didn't make use of the running water in hotel even once.

He turned back around, waiting on his table for his companion to come back from her chat with her sister.

"Oi! You listenin' to me?" The man shook his shoulder, "Fucktard."

Jungkook slapped his hand away irritated, not uttering a word. He didn't understand what that shitbag wanted from him and he had already forgotten what his initial question had been.

The man looked annoyed, offended even. Jungkook didn't get why he was supposed to deal with dipshits like that.

Jungkook crashed into a brittle drawer in the hallway of the house he'd entered, large prowler crawling in his direction before it had a blade stuck in it's head and was slumping onto the floor motionlessly.

The man had had to deal with too many of these annoying fucks for such a short time, but they weren't what concerned him the most. No, it were the normal people here.

"Do you want to help us out with the kids today?" A friendly smiling girl with black hair and frizzy bangs asked him, "The boys love guys like you. They need role models they can look up to."

Role models?

"Fuck no." Jungkook waved off, already on his way out, "Ain't no fuckin' role model."

The girl giggled, "The kids don't know that, silly."

Silly.

Jungkook didn't like the girl. He didn't like how at ease she seemed when talking to him. The worst was, he didn't know why he disliked it.

Maybe because she was supposed to be wary of him. How did she survive that long with an attitude like that?

"Hey, wait-" When the girl put her hand onto his shoulder to stop him from leaving, it was mere reflex to slap it away abruptly.

Only after that did he turn around, surprised to see wide eyes staring at him startled.

"Don't touch me then." He grumbled simply.

"Argh-!" A hollering echo rolled through the empty room when yet another prowler lost it's head through Jungkook's hand.

Him and the others here -- simply didn't work out. He didn't get a lot of their things and some of them, he didn't want to learn.

He supposed there were certain habits he'd be unable to unlearn.

Targets.

He checked the cupboards for food, throwing a few cans of baked beans into his bag.

Minnie was no exception. She was worrying about the wrong things, for - in Jungkook's opinion - the wrong reasons. At least they had the same objective - protecting Y/N.

Jungkook was just relieved that he was far better suited for the job of protecting her. Who knew who Y/N would've chosen if it weren't the case.

The rusty door fell out of it's hinges when he left the house to move on to the next, working himself through the streets systematically - just like Y/N had advised him to.

Weirdly shaped prowler freaks were lurking in almost every corner, all of them once having been island inhabitants or even tourists.

She's spending far too much time with Minnie.

He frowned grimly, wrist flicking sideways when he beheaded a small prowler.

Just like always was that one prowler followed by two more, both of them suffering the same fate as their predecessor.

The last one was slammed violently into an old paper container with enough force to make the sound rumble three streets further.

"Damn Kook, what got you so mad?"

Jungkook startled around, the frenzy he'd worked himself into clearing when he laid eyes on his companion sitting on the garden wall behind him, legs dangling freely as she eyed him with a small, confused smile and cocked brow.

"What are you doing here?" Jungkook craned his head to look for people accompanying her - this crazy woman really came all the way down here alone.

"What do you mean?" She cocked her head to the side, "Can't join my partner on the fun?"

Partner.

"I thought you're with Minnie." He answered blankly, stemming the hilt of his scythe into the ground.

"Well, I was until half an hour ago."

"What? How long have I been busy?" Jungkook lifted his eye to the sky, where he saw the sun slowly rise already.

"About three hours, roughly." She chuckled, "You seemed to need to get off some steam apparently."

He shrugged wordlessly, having Y/N keeping on assaulting him with curious eyes, "So? What's up?"

He wasn't really one to bottle up his thoughts, especially not around her,

"I just thought we finally... have something after last night. And then you leave me for Minnie." It sounded stupid, even to him.

Her eyes widened a split second before she exhaled with a small smile, hopping off the wall, "Wow Jungkook. Didn't take you for the jealous type."

"Jealous?" He frowned, "I just don't like how much she's around you. If you prefer her companionship over mine, jus' tell me!"

She laughed, pressing the back of her hand against her lips to muffle the sound, "You're an idiot. God, you even used a word like companionship."

He didn't understand what was so funny, scowling down at her as she approached him, hand slowly lifting to rest on his shoulder, "Look, Kook, she's my sister. I don't think I need to explain how relieved I was when I found out that she's still alive - we have a lot of catching up to do. So that she understands..." She gave him an important look, "- so that she understands why I chose to not share a room with her but with you instead, for example."

"You look really happy with her." He grumbled, "I don't think you ever looked happy like that around me."

"Jungkook." She rolled her eyes, "Do you know the differences between platonic and romantic love?"

"Pla- what?"

"The way I love Minnie is-" She halted, clearing her throat sheepishly, "- is not the same way I love you."

His hands fell limbly to his sides, "No?"

"No."

"How can there be a difference?"

She laughed softly, "It's hard to explain. Let's see... you respect Namjoon, right?"

He nodded, listening carefully.

"And me, too, right?"

"Of course."

"But the way you respect him and me doesn't feel the same."

He thought for a second, nodding again slowly.

"You don't have the same kind of relationship with him as us. But it doesn't mean you think any less of him." She shrugged, "It's not the same kind of affection."

"I think- I think I get it." He'd have to think about this one.

"That's good." She hummed, reaching out her hand for his, "You better now?"

He gave her a crooked grin, taking her hand. It was a lot smaller than his. Softer as well. "What would I do without you looking out for me, hm?"

She grinned, not bothering to answer, just intertwining their fingers instead.

"Also, Chickie, please don't come here alone again. M' not even talking about prowlers when I tell ya I don't want any creeps to get the chance to meet you alone."

She snorted, "You're right, there are some scary weirdos around here."
