《Little Dark Age ◆ JeonJungkook✔》Seven - Trade One Friend For Another

"She almost stabbed me to death when we met the first time." Yoongi mused happily, stretching his long limbs over the floor like a cat in the sun, "As expected, I mean I was being a bit sneaky."

Moonbyul rolled her eyes, shifting around on her place in the grass, moon illuminating her from above like a halo, "It was a reflex."

"You know, Byul was in the military before all this happened." The black haired explained, eyeing you with a small, flirtatious grin that seemed to be constantly plastered on his face whenever he was talking to you.

"Yeah, I figured it'd be something like that." You answered hushed, mindlessly pulling grass from the ground, glancing back at Jungkook who was sitting on the car's cowling a few meters away, scythe resting between his legs while his eyes were fixated on your surroundings.

"Your friend isn't very talkative, is he?" Yoongi had followed your eyes.

"He- usually he is." You mumbled, "He likes to talk a lot of crap sometimes."

"Really?" Yoongi hummed, "I figured he's more like- like Byul, you know?"

She glared at him, "What is that supposed to mean?"

"C'mon, honey, you're about as talkative as a crayfish." He grinned at her cheekily, provocations not working on this woman who you learned was as stoic as a damn rock.

You snickered at the comment, though your laughter wasn't really genuine. You wanted it to be genuine, really, but you didn't feel quite at ease, because Jungkook had planted doubt in your mind. Doubt about the goodness of these strangers you met.

You never even thought of questioning them. To you, prowlers had always been the villains in this story. Never did you think that people could want to hurt other people in times like these. But Jungkook was right; just because you faced a greater threat did bad people not turn into good ones all of a sudden. Humanity had always had these self-destructive tendencies, right? And people who survived this mayhem needed to be kind of insane.

"And what are you like, sweet cheeks?" Yoongi suddenly addressed you, snapping you out of your reverie.

"Huh? Me?"

"Yeah, tell me your secrets, pretty." He flirted blatantly, nudging your knee with his outstretched foot.

You snorted, leaning back against your arms, head thrown into your neck, "I'm, uh- I used to be rather timid I guess. Bad at socializing n' stuff."

"You say that like the person you used to be is someone else." Yoongi pointed out.

You shrugged, letting yourself fall backwards completely, cool grass tickling your back.

It went silent for a moment, the only sounds being the rustling of the grass when Yoongi scooted closer towards you, until his face appeared in your field of view, covering the moon above you.

"Y/N?" He leaned in a little closer, til you could feel his breath on your skin, dark, intelligent eyes scanning your face with a glint, "Tell me... what's your goal?"

"....goal...?"

"Where do you want to go with that fancy car of yours?"

You propped yourself up on your elbows, mainly to get some space between you two, "Surviving, Yoongi. That's my goal. Why should I worry about where I want to go, as long as there's no safe place for me to be?" You gave him a crooked smile, "The stupid apocalypse can go fuck itself for now, we'll make it through."

"By 'we' you mean Jungkook and you?" Yoongi cocked his head to the side.

You threw a glance at the man behind you, "Yup."

A sharp zing cutting through the air, a familiar splash and then there were two heads - or what at least reminded of heads - rolling over the floor.

"Damn, such a show off." Yoongi commented, pose casual and relaxed, acting as if his hand hadn't just twitched up to his holster.

The two prowler corpses slumped together, bone-chilling gurgling of more in-coming creatures chiming up from down the hill.

"That's it." Moonbyul sounded annoyed, "We're leaving. No more lingering. And we're sleeping in the car."

"Sheesh, no need to get so demanding." Yoongi winked at you when he walked back to the car, fingers hooked around his belt loops with one- and messenger back with the other hand.

Jungkook wiped his blade clean, giving you an odd look, before getting in himself.

"You- You want someone else to drive, Kook?" You asked hesitantly, "You must be tired."

He gave you a small smile, usual glint in his eyes looking duller, as if he was trying to hide it from other people, "You really think I'm that weak, Chickie?"

"No-!"

"Well, then close your pretty little eyes and enjoy being taxied around, idiot."

You snorted, crossing your arms in a sulky manner.

"Tell her, Kook." Yoongi cheered from behind, making Jungkook glare at him.

"We'll never get to rest outside the car if it goes on like this." Moonbyul commented, acting as if your bickering didn't even happen.

"Maybe..." You thought out loud, "Maybe we should consider leaving Seoul. I know, it'll be harder to find food and other supplies, but there shouldn't be as many prowlers."

"You're probably right. We could still go to smaller villages to find necessary supplies, but for now leaving Seoul sounds like a good idea." Moonbyul agreed, sounding all business.

It went quiet after that, Yoongi quickly starting to snore quietly.

"..."

"You good with that?" You whisper-asked Jungkook, who just shrugged.

"You won't listen to me anyways." He muttered, turning the steering wheel heftily.

You sighed, eyeing the other two who were sleeping in the back seats through the rear mirror.

Though surprisingly pessimistic, was Jungkook not wrong. They could be who knows what and you just let them inside your car, shared your food with them, because you assumed they must be good. It was kind of naive, if you were being honest with yourself.

You closed your eyes, mildly distressed sound leaving your lips.

You cracked one eye open when you felt a warm hand on your knee, seeing Jungkook touching you lightly, without averting his attention off the street. His fingers felt warm.

"Don't worry, Chickie." He muttered, "I trust you to make the right decisions."

I trust you

Something inside you felt weird at the thought. Jungkook trusted you. Enough that he was willing to put his discontent aside to follow your decisions.

"What in hell," You whispered, "-did I do to deserve this trust?"

Jungkook grinned, "Enough. Now sleep a little, Kiddo"

You opened your mouth to complain, but closed it quickly.

He didn't look even remotely tired. He didn't look as if he was mad at you either. A little disgruntled, maybe, but not enough to not try to calm you with a light touch when you felt distressed or to remind you to sleep when there was a lot on your mind.

You really had gotten lucky, huh?

Before you finally closed your eyes, you threw one more glance into the rear mirror. Your eyes met Yoongi's wide awake ones, making you look away quickly, surprised.

Wasn't he asleep?

You sunk deeper into your seat, closing your eyes eventually. The slight rocking of the car and continuous humming of the engine lulled you to sleep soon.
