《Little Dark Age ◆ JeonJungkook✔》Five - Cozy Little Apocalypse

Having a car truly changed their lives for the better, Jungkook decided, when his little companion snuggled up against him on the back seats.
No more sleeping on dirty benches and floors, no more waking-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night because some bastard prowler thought it was funny to attack them at ungodly hours.
Now they could sleep in a nice, warm car and Y/N had no other choice but to sleep right next to him, where he could look out for her at all times.
Of course, he didn't sleep much more even now, mind constantly focused on his surroundings - but knowing that at least she was getting some actual sleep was making him feel relaxed as well.
At first, she hadn't been that amazed by the idea of sleeping inside the vehicle but this had quickly changed, as soon as she realized that it was the most logical solution (yeah, Jungkook had been logical and smart for once).
He had taken a turn into a wide dead end street and stopped the car with a harsh step on the brakes. The tall buildings gave them a perfect cover and to some degree shielded them from those damn prowlers.
"Jungkook?" She had blinked in surprise and looked at him. "Why are we stopping?"
"You wanna go n' look for a five star hotel in this crappy town?" He swiftly set the backrest of his seat backwards, flinging down onto the back bench and crossing his arms behind his head with closed eyes.
"-No."
He heard her seatbelt click and her seat being adjusted. After that, there was silence between them, only the drumming of hesitant rain audible. It was almost entirely dark in their alley, only the silvery moon peeking past the brittle buildings sparing them some light, darkness paired with the rhythmic sound of falling rain making Jungkook sleepy.
At least until the girl next to him started tossing and turning. Like a fish on dry land. Over and over again. The whole car was moving, and he felt his patience die down.
She sighed miserably, making him shoot up abruptly, "God, kiddo, what is it?"
"It's cold," She mumbled, turning to him.
"Then get the damn blanket from the trunk." He cocked a brow, lips twitching irritated til he fell back down and into the same lying position, ignoring her look he felt on himself. Of course she stayed in the car.

Some minutes of silence passed, him relaxing with exhaling a breath, before she moved once more.
"Chickie, I swear..." He snapped his eyes open as her fingers landed on his chest, not being able to stop himself from grinning amused, "What d'you think you're doing"
She climbed over the center console and half on top of him.
"It's raining." His hands grabbed her shoulders, holding her in the air. Away from him.
"I don't fuckin care! Stay on your..." Her hair smacked into his face and she lost any kind of body tension, his bent arms shaking under her weight. His last remaining energy took a death blow as she pushed herself off with one foot. She landed on him hard, driving his breath out his lungs.
He knew she'd never act that way completely awake, the possibility to finally relax for once probably taking away her usual self-awareness - or whatever it was, not like he really understood girls. She must've been feeling dead exhausted, after not being used to constant physical stress.
Her fingers clawed into his shirt like a damn monkey. He sighed eventually, lifting his arm to readjust her head so that it wouldn't slip off, resting in the crook of his neck.
"Sorry." She mumbled sleepily.
He exhaled a heavy puff of air and covered his eyes with his arm, feeling his cheeks heat up. "No, you're not."
"No shit..." She answered, only half-awake.
His other arm wrapped around her waist, harshly pulling her closer. "If you move, I'll kick you out."
"Uh huh."
She was fast asleep, leaving Jungkook wondering how he had gotten so lucky with finding such a smart, good-natured companion in this mess.
He glanced down at her, guilt making it's way into his stomach, like always when he realized just how much more he prefers the apocalypse to their past lives.
She'd hate my old self.
That he knew for sure.
Being on the move constantly, fighting for their lives, no one to worry about but some puny prowlers and an innocent little girl - Jungkook couldn't possibly wish for more. This, what he had right now, was perfect - for him at least.
He sighed conflicted, patting her hair clumsily, before setting his attention to the dark alley outside.

You kicked away an empty can, walking through what used to be a relatively large mall, Jungkook tagging along, like the good guard he is.

"Gotta be careful." You announced, "I bet places like this have a load of prowlers lurking around."
"Lurking." Jungkook echoed impish, entirely un-serious about the whole situation, "Always using such fancy words, Chibi."
"Chibi?" You pushed open the doors to an old grocery shop, "That's new."
"Like the lil' character thingys in anime." He explained, very serious about this topic at least.
You snorted surprised, eyes raking over the rows of mostly expired food, nose scrunching up at the horrible stench, "You're watching anime?"
"I watched anime, Chibi." He corrected you dutifully, making you feel a pang in your chest, like always when you got reminded what you've been robbed of.
The sound of his scythe banging against each shelf while he walked through the aisles echoed through the shop, both of you on the hunt for some edible food.
"I swear if you come back with that spicy crap again I'll slit your throat!" He chimed from the other side of the room, busy with looking through a shelf of soup cans.
"Sure, sure." You whistled, pushing away a shopping cart, the sound of metal scraping over tiles filling your ears.
You smelled it before you saw it, familiar smell of that odd, black liquid evading you, before the prowler who'd been lurking behind the counter lunged forward with a repulsive gurgle.
"Fuck-" You jumped backwards, falling onto your butt when one of the grossly long limbs grabbed your ankle, pulling hard on it. Your kicks had no effect on the monster, as usual, other arm of the prowler coming up to grab your throat, "Jungkook-!"
You hadn't even finished shouting his name and the man was already behind you, scythe zinging closely past your face, cutting off the prowler's head with deadly precision.
You exhaled hollowly, slumping together after the shock had settled, Jungkook's hand removing the monster's lifeless grasp around your throat, reminding you of kicking away the hand on your ankle.
"I told you there would be prowlers here." You mused accusingly, making Jungkook laugh.
"Never said I didn't believe you, Chickie." He chimed, holding up a plastic back full of soup cans, "I got us what we wanted, let's hurry and get outta here."
Your eyes stayed glued to the bag for a moment, regret filling your conscience as you realized of how little help you'd been for Jungkook today.
"What is it? You sad that I didn't find any of your nasty ramen today?" He teased, nudging your side with his foot.
You just stuck out your tongue, taking his offered hand to get up with a grunt, "Would you even know which one to get?"
"Obviously not, ya fuckin' moron, I can't fucking read, remember?" He swatted your head from behind.
You snickered, brushing the dust off your clothes, "Let's go."
This time he took the lead, looking out for prowlers with his scythe in both hands, not because he needed to, just because he knew you'd feel safer that way.
You'd taken the bag with food, allowing your gaze to wander, now that Jungkook was on guard.
Your eyes got stuck on an empty tomato soup can, where the red liquid was still glistening on the package.
"Jungkook, wait." You ordered, halting completely while staring down at the can.
He stopped, turning around irritated, "What?"
"There's a can."
"Wh- no shit sherlock." He shook his head, "Hurry up now, weirdo."
"No, Jungkook." You reached out to hold him back by the back of his leather jacket, "The can's been opened only shortly ago- there're still left overs in it."
He cocked a brow, "Who the fuck would leave left overs in times like these?"
"That's not what I mean-" You crouched down to take the can, "Don't you get it? There must've been people here!"
His eyes widened in realization, "Oh-"
You turned around, speed-walking towards the exit, "Jungkook, we aren't the only ones left!"
"W-Wait, Y/N, what're you doin'?" He stumbled after you, weird look on his face you've never seen before - something akin to worry, but not quite just that.
"We gotta look for them!" You laughed out loud, feeling excited, "I mean- are you kidding me?" Hope bloomed inside your chest, a small, green sprout ready to become something bigger, richer.
"No, I- we don't know what they're like." He pointed out, still going after you, "Chibi, please, we should be careful!"
You made a 360° turn once you'd gotten outside, thinking of a way to find the strangers, "What should I be careful for, huh?" You grinned at him cheekily, "I have you, don't I?"
His lips twitched, resolve crumbling, "Y-Yeah, sure but-"
"Moonbyul-!" A male voice shouted from some distance, making both of you stiffen immediately, "You to see this!"
