《Keeping It Halal》Oh Canada

Today was the day. The day Baba and I were leaving to Canada. Alhamdullallah That I finally get to see Dalia (and possibly Kareem)🤭. "I'm so excited Baba! Also when we get there, can we pwease get Timmies? Pweaaase?" I asked him, pouting. "Fine Mariam. It's sad that they don't have it here right?" Baba asked me. "Yea I know right. But at least we get MCd's and KFC. And Pizza Hut." I listed the names of all the North American fast food places and restaurants that also have a franchise here. "What is it with the kids these days saying Timmies instead of Tim Hortons and MCd's instead of McDonald's?!" He joked. I just laughed it off. Oh Baba. May Allah give me patience from you. I thought. And just as you thought, I made a playlist for my airplane ride.

My Airplane Ride Playlist:

Break My Heart: Dua Lipa

Call Me Maybe: Carly Rae Jepson

Don't Start Now: Dua Lipa

Youth: Shawn Mendes ft Khalid

Treat You Better: Shawn Mendes

Aicha: Alaa Wardi Accapella Cover

Like This: Sky Katz ft Lil Tjay

If I Can't Have You: Shawn Mendes

Say My Name: Destiny's Child

I know they aren't many songs but, that's enough. As a matter of fact, I was on the plane right now. I was sitting in between Baba and another women I didn't know. She seemed like a nice lady, so I decided to start a conversation between us two. "Hello. I love your hair color. It's very pretty." I said, admiring her redish curly hair, which reminded me of cotten candy. "Why thank you my dear. I died it myself." She told me with a thick British accent. We kept talking about hair until she complimented me on my Hijab. "I love your head scarf. The navy blue color fits you very well. It's called a Hijab, isn't it?" I nodded. "Yes and thank you. That's very sweet of you." I said back.

When the plane landed, I hopped off of the plane with Baba and we went to the airport. It was a one way flight. I looked for the red haired women, to say goodbye. But, I couldn't find her. I wish there were more people like her. "Ok Mariam. You ready?" Baba started. I nodded. "We leave straight home- After Tim Horton's." Baba remembered. "And MCD's when we get to leaving?!" I pleaded. He nodded and pulled me into a hug. I knew these next three days would be the best. One day on the plane, and the rest of the days in Canada. Beautiful Canada.

When we parked in front our house (well old house), it looked the same. I went in and it was the same too. Ahhhhh I missed it! I opened my room's door and saw my beautiful yellow room 💛. Oh I missed it. All of it! I went back downstairs to see Baba in the living room getting straight to work. "Hey Baba, can I go see Dalia?!" I asked, at the top of the stairs. "We just got here honey." Baba told me. "But Baba please? I'm excited and I'll help out tomorrow. Pwease?" I said the last part like a baby. He gave me a little ruffle on my head. But I was wearing my Hijab so it was weird. "Baba! You ruined my Hijab." I pouted, running to the mirror to fix it. "Ok bye Baba. I love you," I started and shut the door behind me. I remembered something so I opened the door a bit. " And thank you." I whispered. I walked down a few houses to Dalia's house and I saw a red car there. It was a Hyundai. I've seen it here before, around here. But it wasn't Dalia's parent's car though. I knocked on the door to see someone. Someone I knew very VERY well. I dropped a box I was carrying and just froze there. I don't even think I could breath.
