《Keeping His Secret》And then...

We waved goodbye to Emily at her school gates and then continued walking to our own school. Things between Noah and I seemed awkward, both staying incredibly quiet. When we reached the courtyard of our high school I didn't bother saying goodbye to him, I just walked faster in efforts to get away from him but I felt his arm pull me back.

"I will tell you everything. Anything you want to know, but you need to be sure because once you know the truth there's no going back." I nodded my head in agreement.

"Hang out with me tonight." I asked, knowing Emily was spending the night at her friends. His eyebrows raised with surprise and he ran his fingers through his hair.

"Hang out?" He tested the words out really slowly and I laughed.

"It's when people have fun together." I explained sarcastically. He smiled shyly, melting me completely.

"Fun?" He teased, testing yet another word out. His vocabulary was growing rapidly this morning.

"Yeah, but there's one condition. I don't want it to feel like I'm hanging out with a parental figure. I want to hang out with you, just a normal seventeen year old. No commitments, no worries, no second thoughts and whole bunch of stupid regrets in the morning."

"I suppose that can be arranged" He laughed.

It was almost inhumane at how slow the day went. Every now and again I would remind myself that I was getting to spend the whole night with Noah and excitement bubbled up inside my chest. On some level I hoped it would give me a glimpse into what he used to be like before I met him.

When the final bell rang I met him outside the gates, he was leaning against a wall scrolling through his phone. He didn't know I was watching and that's what made him even more attractive to me. I loved the frown lines that appeared on his head as he studied the content on his phone and I loved the way his lips curled up in distaste whenever he came across something he didn't like. I watched as he flicked the hair out of his eyes and swapped hands.

"Hey, what do you want to do?" He asked me as I approached him.

"I want you to show me what you did for fun, before you had responsibilities." His lips twitched and he paused for a moment to think about my proposal. Then he nodded his head and took hold of my hand, running through the streets, the only thing allowing me to keep up with his footsteps was the adrenaline pumping around my body.

"Joel tell you about our little tradition?" Noah asked me as we halted our steps outside East Side High. I shook my head, gaining an instantly bad feeling about this. Noah kept our fingers interlinked as he walked me to the back of the bleachers, slipping in underneath. It was Friday and East Side had a big lacrosse match today, I knew exactly what happened at those matches.

"Princess!" Joel screeched in a high pitched tone. I looked at Noah with questioning eyes. "What are you both doing here?" Noah gave me a head nod, willing me to answer for him.

"We want in." I said simply. Joel looked Noah up and down with uncertainty but then he reached into his bag pack and pulled out two balaclava masks and a couple of cans of spray paint. "What's the plan?" I asked looking down at the items in my hand and knowing that this was not going to go well.

My eyes widened when a loud choir of 'barring' came from behind me, Noah burst out laughing and slowly I turned around to see the guy with the face piercings bringing seven sheep all attached to a lead under the bleachers.

Every month when East Side had the lacrosse match someone from the enemy schools would drop by and pull a prank. They were always different but still dragged up quite a fuss among the pupils and faculty. We had no idea which school or what kids were doing it which made it pretty much impossible to stop.

The bleachers started filling out and Noah put on his mask so I copied. He grabbed my hand and together we ran towards the school building. It felt strange being back here, but oh so familiar. We hid behind one of the classroom doors waiting for the corridor to empty out as everyone took their places on the bleachers and then Noah pulled me to the lockers and started spraying black paint. I watched him with interest, trying to guess what his picture was.

He tossed me a can and I shook my head and threw it back. He pointed at the lockers and tossed the can my way again, so I started writing over the locker. Once we had finished our masterpiece we stood back and looked.

"Ewe suck Principal Sheep." Noah read my words and looked at me with a sideways head tilt. I knew he was smiling I just couldn't see his lips. He had drawn two sheep humping, it wasn't perfect art but you could definitely see what it was supposed to be.

"Hey!" Sir Smithers shouted from the bottom end of the corridor and Noah grabbed my hand, both of us making a run for it.

"This way, it's quicker." I led him through to the west wing, up one set of stairs, down a long corridor and then down another. We had lost Sir Smithers and Noah bent over clutching his stomach, laughing as he tried to regain his breath back. I looked around the hallway, reminiscing on the years I spent at East Side.

"That was my locker." I pointed to the large chunk of blue metal, seven doors down from the end.

"I know." Noah said. I looked at him with perplexity.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing, come on." He stood up and walked over to me.

"You said 'I know.'" I informed him.

"No I didn't." I started laughing at his weirdness. He bent down to tie his shoelace and as if a flashback went off in my brain everything fell into place.

"Oh my god, it was you." He looked up at me.

"It was game day and the delinquents set smoke bombs off everywhere, the corridors were so foggy. I remember being so mad because the game got called off, some of the wheezy kids were having asthma attacks from the smoke. The delinquents managed to run away before they got caught but you were here, in this corridor, slowed down by your shoelaces." He dropped his shoe lace and stood up, without saying a word.

"I was heading to my locker and I froze when I seen you. I remember it now so clearly, the mask, your clothes, the shoe tying. It was you. Principal Sheep called out to me asking if anyone was there but I said no, stupidly protecting your identity."

"And then what happened?" Noah asked pacing over to me slowly, a small smile tugged at his lips.

"And then—" I continued.

"And then I stood up, coming eye to eye with you. You were everything I hated, a real princess. You had this tiny blue and green tartan skirt, button up blouse and knee high socks so prim and proper. I could see the pure innocence in your eyes, like never in your life had you done anything wrong. I remember thinking to myself... God I bet this girl hasn't ever been kissed. But what shocked me more is that I wanted to be the one that kissed you."

We looked at each other through the small holes of our masks. With his eyes surrounded by darkness they looked even more golden. He placed his hands on the bottom of my mask and folded it back halfway, exposing my lips.

"So I folded back my mask and I placed one hand on the small of your back, gently leaning you against your locker. My other hand found your hair, tilting your head up to allow for the perfect access my lips needed and then I..."

His lips fell onto mine, roughly, our tongues instantly fighting for the taste of one another. It was like an explosion on my taste buds of the best flavors in the universe. Soft sounds of perfect enjoyment vibrated through his throat and I could feel his heart beating through his chest as he explored my mouth in the most delicious way. Nostalgia clung to the air all around me, back then he was just a stranger who stole my first kiss. But every guy I kissed after that could never compare to things he made me feel, not until we kissed for a second time.

Noah stepped away, dropping my hair and clutched his swollen lips.

"And then?" I asked after I recovered from all of the sensations rushing around my body.

Noah smiled shyly and then pulled his mask down to hide his amusement.

"And then—" He continued.

"And then you handed me a bottle of coke and I looked down at it thinking 'what the fuck?' and as I looked at it you dropped two Mentos in the top and ran out of the door." Noah burst out laughing, not holding anything back.

"Noah, I was drenched."

"I bet you were." He implied suggestively.

"From the coke."
