《Keeping His Secret》Girl Talk.

My phone had been ringing non-stop. Over the past week I had become accustomed to flipping it on silent and ignoring the influx of calls. But with Emily here I need my phone on loud in case Noah tries to ring. It's always the same number trying to contact me, his number and I always give him the same reaction. Reject and ignore. What does he even want?

"What do you want to do Emily?" I asked her, slipping my phone away.

"I would like to watch a movie please Mia." Emily jumped down on the sofa and I opened up the dvd drawer, looking to see what age appropriate dvds I had.

"What would you like to watch?" I turned back to her wanting to hear some of her suggestions but a big smile grew on her face and she wiggled her eyebrows at me suggestively. I laughed out loud.

"Seriously?" I asked her and she nodded. I shook my head and laughed, slotting the greatest showman disc in.

We pretty much fell into a food coma, overloaded on delicious snacks. She was leaning against my arm and towards the end of the movie her eyes started drooping.

"Shall we go to bed?" I asked her and she nodded gently. I took her hand and guided her into the bedroom.

"You share a bedroom with your mom?" She giggled behind her hand and I nodded my head, peeking over at my moms empty bed. I didn't want to explain the ins and outs of our living situation to a five year old.

"I used to share a room with my mom." She said sadly, picking up my doll and stroking her hair. I held in my breath, not knowing how Noah would want me to approach this situation.

"You did?" I asked carefully.

"Well I used to share her bed and she always tried to get me to sleep in my own room but I never did. I sneaked back into her room every night and slept right in the middle of her and my dad." Emily waved my doll around making her dress twirl. I sat down on the bed beside her.

"You remember your parents well?" I asked gently. She nodded her head.

"A little, Noah doesn't like to talk about them so I forget things." She sighed and put my doll down, her little eyes looked up at me so raw with emotion.

"You want to tell me about them?" I offered. She threw herself back on my bed, adjusting the pillows to get comfortable.

"My dad used to eat these sweets all the time. Humbugs, they were hard so I was never allowed them but they smelt like mint and that always reminds me of him. And my mom always had this vanilla perfume, sometimes she would spray it on me." I smiled at her fond memories.

"I remember the day it happened. They wanted us to go out and I got all dressed nice. But Noah was shouting at them. He didn't want to come. He was always shouting at them. My mom would cry because he was so mean. I didn't like Noah then."

I held her hand and gave it a small squeeze, she offered me the smallest of smiles.

"He never let me in his room and he was always kissing that horrible girl. He locked himself in the bedroom and my dad was banging on the door telling him to get out and it was really scary. I was crying. Then dad broke his door down and told Abigail to leave."

"I was outside playing with my sandpit and Noah was doing something to dads car. He swore at me and told me to go away when I asked him what he was doing and then the same day my dad crashed into the bridge. I don't remember the crash but I remember my dads voice blaming Noah before the car went down."

"Emily, sometimes during moments of anger and fear people say things that they don't mean."

"No Mia... I think Noah did something to make dad crash the car. Abigail told me he killed my parents." An involuntary gasp fell from my lips.

"She told you that?" Emily nodded her head.

"At the funeral." She followed up with and I slapped my hand over my mouth to hide my fallen jaw. "Please don't tell anybody Mia, I don't want Noah to go to jail." I took hold of both of her hands and gave her deep eye contact.

"Emily listen to me okay? Abigail didn't know the real Noah. You and I do. He's kind, he's protective, he puts others before himself, he sacrifices the things he wants just to provide what other people need." She furrowed her brow, I think what I were saying was going over her head. "Abigail is an idiot. Noah wouldn't do that, you feel safe with him right?"

"I don't feel safe without him." Emily replied. I stroked her glossy hair, straightening it down her back.

"Don't think those thoughts okay? Noah didn't kill your parents. Abbey was just mad at him for breaking up with her so she made up lies." I pulled back the blankets and she climbed into bed. I lay down next to her feeling a little awkward about sharing a bed with her but she cuddled into me straight away and I relaxed.

"I wish you were his girlfriend Mia." She whispered sleepily. She was quiet for the longest time and I thought she had fallen asleep. "Will you come to my birthday party?" Her little voice asked. I looked down at her with surprise.

"When is your birthday?" I giggled to myself.

"In May. Noah is planning a huge party for me because last year he didn't give me one." She gave a slumberous smile.

"Of course, I will be there." I told her honestly.

"Promise?" She muttered.

"I promise." Her breathing soon became even and her eyes fluttered silently. Listening to her soothing sounds made me drift off and before I knew it Noah was poking me awake.

My eyelids felt like the heaviest things in the world but I managed to pull them upwards and blink in Noah's appearance. He looked fresh and smelt amazing. I had bed hair, morning breath and pink fuzzy rabbit pajamas on.

"Hey your mom let me in on her way out, everything go okay?" He whispered glancing over at a sleeping Emily.

"Mhm." I mumbled, wiping the drool from my face. I didn't want to open my mouth in case the stench knocked him out. I sat up and stretched out my arms and his golden eyes fell down to my chest. A sexy smirk grew across his perfect lips.

"Cute PJ's." He teased. I pulled the sheet higher, wanting to pull it right over my head to hide the growing blush on my cheeks. "Your mom made pancakes, come on." He grabbed my hand and tugged leaving me no choice but to follow him to the kitchen. Everything was brighter in the kitchen and I rubbed the light away from my eyes. Noah handed me a plate of warm pancakes and then tucked into his own. "What did you guys do?" He asked.

"We made cookies, did some art, watched the greatest show man, of course, and then had some girl talk." He chewed his pancake but turned to me when I said 'girl talk.'

"Girl talk, what's that?" He asked with a mouthful of pancake.

"It's when girls talk to each other about whatever is on their mind." I tipped the syrup over my pancakes and took a bite. Noah's chewing pace picked up and then he swallowed the food down hard.

"What's on Emily's mind?" His expression was serious now and I bit back a smile.

"You're not a girl." I told him straightly. He rolled his eyes.

"Mia..."

"Noah..."

I sighed and shrugged.

"We talked about your parents." His eyes widened and he shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

"What!" His tone was high pitched, anything but calm.

"And how you were before they died." I carried on talking, ignoring the startled look he was giving me. "We talked about you and Abigail, the day of the accident, what Emily saw. She told me some things Noah, things I told her were not true but I've literally heard them from everyone and always dismissed them. Now I need to hear them from you."

His brows furrowed and his lips parted. I could see his chest bouncing up and down inside his hoodie. He blinked back at me slowly, mentally preparing himself for my next question.

"Don't hate me for asking this." I begged. He closed his eyes over, soaking up my betrayal. "Did you kill your parents?" I whispered. Noah opened his eyes, his expression was filled with anger, regret and hurt. I wasn't sure if those emotions were directed towards my question or the crime that he committed.

He opened his mouth to speak, taking in a deep breath before he uttered his confession.

"Mia?" Emily's little voice asked behind me.

Noah snapped out of his trance and made his way to Emily, wiping all of the emotions off his face and replacing them with a fake smile. I knew my chance of getting an answer from him had just evaporated.
