《My Angel》Part XV: Bliss (end)

A/N: This is it. The last and the longest chapter.
The morning light hits my face as I open my eyes. I look at my window, and noticed that the drapes are open. I smiled as I remembered that I don’t have to go to the hospital today. It’s my day off.
I reached for my phone to check any messages, and yes there is. I felt my cheeks blush as I read it.
From Forth, 6:00 AM:
Good morning, love.
My smile became wider. He never fails to greet me every morning ever since we have been together. In person, through texts, or through calls.
But as days go by, I kind of wished he was with me, in my bed and in my arms every morning I wake up. I would very much love to move in with him in his apartment, but I am a bit hesitant to bring it up to him. We are still too early in our relationship. So here I am, in my bed, missing him.
Instead of replying I tapped the dial button. He answered after three rings.
“Hello, my angel?” he greeted.
I’m still not used to him calling me that. But I like it.
He sounds like he was already awake, I look at the time in my wall clock, 8:00 AM. He should be ready to go to work by now.
Six months. It has been six months since Forth gained his memories. I still can’t believe we are together now. The trip to Japan seems just like yesterday. Those were the best days of my life. I spent it with him, and we were very happy.
Finally, all the sadness, the grief, the heartaches, are replaced with joy and sunny days. Every single moment with him feels like pure bliss.
“Beam? You okay baby?” he asked.
“Yes, I just want to say good morning to you, too,” I said.
“You were quiet. What are you thinking about?” he said sounding worried.
“You.”
I can hear him chuckle on the other line. “I think about you all the time, too.”
My cheeks starts to feel warmer now, I can feel the blush getting deeper.
“Have you had your breakfast?” I asked.
“Yes, I did. How about you?”
“I will in a few minutes,” I said. “It’s my day off today.”
“I know, so you take a rest and enjoy your day,” he said.
I pouted. Schedule was another thing I am starting to hate. Both of us have irregular days off, and on most days they don’t match. So we can only have lunches and dinner dates. If we’re lucky and the days match, we spend the whole day together and I would sleep over in his apartment. But those days were rare as I have night shifts, too. He is the deputy chief and he has an entire city to protect. While I am still on my internship. My month long break was already a special exception, I don’t want to abuse my privileges just because my dad owns the hospital. But I really wish we could go back to Japan again.
He has been busy the whole week. For three days I was only able to see him once, for a dinner date, which ended with just… well dinner. I start to feel guilty for expecting more. But I can’t help it that I miss him everyday. I feel selfish for wanting to see him and having him all to myself.
But I will try again, today.

“Forth?”
“Yes, Beam,”
“Can we have lunch together? I’ll go to the station and bring you food.”
He was silent for a few seconds. “I… uhm… Sorry, I can’t.”
It’s my turn to go silent.
“I have a very important project I am working on. It’s a very special case.”
I breathed deeply.
“Is that why you have been busy for days?” I asked.
“Yes, and I really have to do it,” he sounded like it was very serious.
“Oh, okay. How about dinner then?”
“That… I can’t do today as well,” he answered.
I’m starting to feel a lump in my throat. I feel like I want to cry.
“Beam?”
It took me a couple of seconds to swallow hard before answering.
“Yeah?” I hoped he didn’t notice the crack in my voice.
“I love you so much. Do you know that?”
I sighed heavily. Thinking of how petty I was. It’s just another day, and for sure I will see him soon.
“Yes and I love you, too.” I answered.
“You enjoy the day, okay?” I can only imagine his handsome smiling face on the other line.
“Okay, you too.”
Happy sixth month anniversary. I wanted to add but decided against it. It seems like he didn’t remember.
Sighing again, I ended the call and dropped on my bed. I laze in the mattress and browsed through my phone’s gallery looking at Forth’s pictures and pictures of us together, smiling happily.
I swiped some more and saw my favorite picture of him. He was lying on the bed looking like he just woke up, he was covered in a blanket and only showing his face. He was smiling and looking very handsome with his bed hair and all. I smiled and kissed the screen.
“No need to be upset Beam!” I scolded myself as I got out of bed and prepared to take a bath.
After taking a bath, I went down the kitchen and saw Dad already having his breakfast.
“Good morning, Dad.” I greeted.
He looks up and smiled brightly. He waved at me to come closer.
“Good morning, son,” he said after kissing my hair. He was smiling the entire time.
“Sit down and eat your breakfast.”
“You look so smiley today, Dad. What’s up?”
“Oh, nothing. Today’s gonna be a great day for sure,” he said.
“Huh, why so?” I arched a brow.
“Just because…” I waited but he did not continue.
“Because?” I nudged his elbow.
“Oh, just don’t mind me.” He continued eating so I didn’t pry. Well Dad’s in a good mood, might as well let his bright aura rub off on me.
“So how are you gonna spend your day today?” he suddenly asked.
“Hmm...I guess I’ll just stay at home,” I said as I start slicing my pancakes. “Forth is kinda busy.”
“Oh, is he,” he said in a weird tone, he looked like he is trying to hide a smile. I wonder what’s going on his mind right now.
“Well, we can’t help it. He is a high ranking officer. He should be busy,” he said. “But don’t worry Beam, I know Forth wants to spend time with you.”
I smiled. “Thanks, Dad.”
“But he really will be busy, especially today,” he added.
“Huh? How did you know?” I asked.
“I uh… spoke with him a few days ago.”
“You did? About what?”

“N-nothing in particular.”
He ruffles my hair like I’m a kid. Honestly, Dad treats Wayo and I like were still kids. I guess it’s his way of making up for our lost time. I like it anyway. But sometimes he gets over the top with the spoiling.
“I am so proud of you and Wayo,” he said.
“Please know that I support you all the way, whatever you decide to do.”
My hands stopped midway as I was about to put bacon in my mouth. He looks like he’s about to do a speech.
“Dad…”
“You both found amazing men who will take care of you.” He is talking about P’Pha and Forth.
“Phana is an amazing man, and I know Forth is too. I wouldn’t want anybody else to be with you.” He looks at me in the eyes with such a serious expression.
“As long as Forth makes you feel happy, safe, and loved. Then I am happy as well and will welcome him with open arms.”
Well, I am kinda used to my dad being a tad bit dramatic. Except today, he was being more emotional. Maybe he’s still not over Wayo and P’Pha’s wedding.
I chuckled.
“Dad, thanks. But it’s not like I’m gonna get married anytime soon. Wayo and P’Pha, well, they’re a different story. But thank you, for your support and for accepting my boyfriend.”
“Right, right. But last question though, how much do you love Forth? Would you marry him someday?”
My eyes widened at his question. But I answered it without hesitation. “Yes, Dad. I love him so much I’d marry him any day.”
He nodded and smiled that mysterious smile again. I waited for him to talk more, but he just continued with his coffee and grabbed the morning paper.
***
After that confusing breakfast, Dad left for work. While I went to the garden to read a book and enjoy the morning sun. Then I went back to clean my room, and realizing I have nothing to do the entire day, I took a nap.
I woke up just before lunch. I checked my phone, and I was expecting Forth to send a text or something. But he didn’t. Guess he was really busy, I sent the text instead.
To Forth, 11:45 AM:
Hey, babe, don’t forget to eat your lunch, okay. I love you.
I closed my phone. I have a feeling that he’s not gonna reply immediately. I sighed and tried my best to fight my loneliness. I seriously need to distract myself. All I can think of is him.
After having lunch, I decided to call Kit. I’m sure he’s having his lunch break now, too.
“Hey, Beamie…” he answered.
"Is that Beam? Hey, don’t be too obvious okay?" I’m pretty sure that was Ming.
"Shut up. He might hear you, idiot." I can hear them bicker but their voices became muffled, I guess Kit is covering his phone.
“So Beam,” Kit was back.
“Kit? What was that?” I asked.
“Oh… nothing, Beamie.”
“Are you sure? It sounded like Ming, what were you talking about?” I asked.
“Nothing, he was just being stupid. You know, Ming.”
"Ai’Kitty!" I can hear Ming in the background, and I can imagine Kit rolling his eyes.
“Can I talk to Ming?”
“Huh?” I hear Kit mouthing something to Ming, but I can’t hear it clearly. “Okay.”
“Hey, what’s up Doc?” Ming said in his usual playful voice.
“Uhm… well, I just wanna ask if you were with Forth today. Well, I just wanna check if he’s not overworking or something.”
To be honest, I am a bit jealous of Ming and Kit. For some reason, Ming always manages to find time to be with Kit, to the point that it annoys Kit sometimes. And because of that, Ming gets scolded a lot in the station for disappearing often. I gotta hand it to Ming for being that bold. He’s very good in his job anyway that’s why Forth often lets him off the hook. But yeah, Ming is still an aspiring junior, and Forth is a senior officer. So I guess that makes Forth the busiest person in the station.
“Oh... Don’t worry, Beam. He is fine,” he said. “But yes, he is very very busy today.”
I sighed. “Okay.”
“Trust me, Beam. You’ll see him in no time,” he said.
“Thanks, Ming,”
“No problem,” he said.
“Beamie, are you okay?” It was Kit again.
“Yeah, of course,” I said. Was I that obvious?
“Well, you enjoy your day off then,” he said.
“I will, and you too. Both of you enjoy your lunch.”
Kit chuckled before ending the call.
Somehow, that call made me feel better. I prepared lunch for myself and then ate it in the patio. I finally received a text from Forth.
From Forth, 1:20 PM.
Yes, I did have lunch. Love you, too.
I smiled. There’s no use being upset.
It’s still early in the afternoon and I am bored as hell. I grabbed my car keys and went outside. I drove to the nearest cafe and spent some time there having coffee and dessert. Then I spent some more time in the park and walked around.
It was almost evening when I received a call from Wayo.
“P’Beam! Where are you?,” he asked excitedly.
“I’m at the park, but I’m about to go home,” I said.
“Great! I’ll meet you at home. Then we’ll go to the hospital together!”
“What are we gonna do at the hospital? It’s my day off today.”
“I know, but I wanna see my hubby, and I want you to come with me,” he said.
I raised my eyebrows. Why would I go with him?
“Just say yes, pleeeease~” Like reading my mind, Wayo begged in that tone that me, Dad, or P’Pha cannot say no to.
“Okay,” I was bored anyway, so why not visit the hospital.
“Yes! See you at home,” he said and then ended the call.
***
We are on our way to the hospital and Wayo insisted that he drives. I’ve never seen him this excited before. It’s not like he’s not gonna see P’Pha tonight. He already moved in with him immediately after their honeymoon. But whatever it is that made him excited, it sure made me a bit excited too.
I was a bit startled when my phone started to vibrate. Forth just sent a text.
I gasped at the short message. He remembered!
From Forth, 7:10 PM.
Happy six month anniversary, my angel.
It has a video attachment. My heart fluttered as I pressed play.
It was a video of Forth, holding his guitar. He looked nervous but I find it cute. He stared at the camera and smiled. So handsome.
"Happy anniversary, Beam. I love you. This song is for you."
I giggled at his cute intro. He strummed his guitar and started singing. I feel so happy and touched, I smiled from ear to ear and squeaked a little.
Wayo glanced at me and smiled. “Is that from P’Forth?”
“Yeah,” I said.
“Just in time,” I have no idea what he is saying so I ignored him, and focused on the video.
Forth’s voice was deep and mellow, and the song is wonderful. The perfect song to describe our relationship, the love we have for each other. The video now transitioned to a compilation of pictures and video clips of us for the past months, while his voice remained in the background. I couldn’t help but start to tear up.
Looking back, coming to this point in our lives is not easy. There were a lot of obstacles along the way. The six years that we were apart. The time he lost his memories. It was never easy. But ultimately, hard as it may seem, I am now with him. With my hero. I didn’t think I could love someone this much. After all I’ve been through, in the end, I found myself in his arms. If I were asked to go through the same pain, I gladly would, if it means being with him in the end. My love for Forth is unconditional.
The video ended with him looking at the camera and smiling.
“We are here, P,” Wayo said as he passed me a box of tissues. I never noticed the tears which flowed freely.
He hugged me tightly before we went out of the car.
P’Pha was there standing at the entrance. Wayo ran to him and gave him a deep kiss in the lips and then they embraced tightly.
I smiled at the scene. These two are just oozing with love.
Out of the blue, P’Pha handed me a white rose, and then Wayo, too.
“What…”
“Why don’t you go inside, P.” Wayo said smiling.
“But...what are these for?” I am confused.
P’Pha shrugged smiling and said, “Just go inside.”
So I went inside but looked back at the two, they were kissing at the entrance. I smile as I trudged along.
“He’s here!” I heard a nurse yell.
And then three of them came up to me and each handed me another white rose. Everyone was smiling and looking at me.
As I pass by, the nurses and fellow interns took turns in handing me white roses. Of course, I already have an idea on who they were from. I felt my face blush. I feel so embarrassed at the same time giddy.
Each people I passed by gave me roses, so I already have an armful when I made my way to the Pediatric ward.
Standing there was Kit and Ming, and both were smiling. They each handed me a white rose as well.
Kit hugged me. “Go to the garden, he’s waiting for you.”
I just nodded. I have no words to say. All I want was to see him. I tried to compose myself as I rode the elevator to the rooftop garden.
My eyes grew wide as I opened the door. The pathway to the garden was covered with a blue carpet and lined with candle lights. The entire garden was empty, and the lights were off. The only illumination was the bright twinkling lights from the candles littered on the ground, and the bright stars above.
Soft music started to echo through the entire garden. I giggled at the thought. I wonder what he must have done to convince the staff to rig the PA system in the garden for it play music.
I hugged the huge bunch of white roses in my arms as I stepped into the pathway. I gasped as I moved forward.
In every step I take, the shrubs, flowers, and the entire landscape around me came to life with their adorning shining white lights. The lights followed me until I arrived at our favorite grassy picnic area.
I looked all around me and can’t help but gasp loudly. The entire garden looked so beautiful, looking like a whole new place. The soft glow of the lights looked magical.
“Oh, my god.” I whispered.
I turned and walked closer, and the view took my breath away.
Standing in front of me was Forth. Wearing a white dress shirt, he looked so handsome with his charming smile and gorgeous eyes. Without breaking eye contact he slowly walked to me and took the bunch of flowers. He placed it on the vase in the small dining table set up at the center of the clearing. The table is filled with food and wine, and of course, candlelight.
After carefully arranging the flowers, he went back to me and handed the single final red rose.
“Happy anniversary, Beam,” he said softly.
I was speechless, but I let my heart speak for itself. I pulled him closer and kissed him tenderly.
“Happy anniversary, Forth,” I say as I draw him into a tight embrace.
“How do you like this dinner date?” he asked.
“It’s amazing, it’s very beautiful.” I murmured into his ear.
“I’m glad you liked it.” I felt him smile.
“I love it. Thank you.” I pulled him for another kiss.
He clearly has no idea how I am feeling right now. This is more than what I can ask for. I was silently scolding myself for assuming that he had forgotten.
“So this is what kept you busy for the past few days?”
“Yes,” he said while smiling.
“Well, all your hard work paid off. This is perfect.”
He smiled, “A lot of people helped me though.”
“Yes, like a lot. Like my dad, my brother, all my friends, and the entire hospital?” I teased.
“Hey…” he pinched my cheek.
He looked at the stars above, and then he took a step back and gestured his hand.
“Can I have this dance?”
I can only smile. “Of course.”
He puts my hands on his shoulders and then he settled his on my waist. Looking into each other’s eyes, we slowly swayed our bodies in tune with the music. He pulled me closer and I wrapped my arms on his nape as he wraps his on my waist.
My heartbeat is slowly getting faster as I look deep in his eyes. Warmth slowly grew between us as our breathing harmonizes with our slow movements. Everything that is happening, right here, right now, is perfect. And this perfect man just simply takes my breath away.
I leaned my head on his shoulder, and he gathered tighter me in his arms. Our chests touching, we listened to the beat of our hearts. We stay like this for a while. I want to stay like this forever.
We eventually let go. Forth strokes my cheeks with his thumbs.
“You are so beautiful,” he said.
“And so are you,” I answered.
“Beam… I love you,” he said. “You are my everything. For the past six years, you were the only one that I wished for. You were the source of my strength and my reason for living. When I found you again, my life became complete, and it was the best thing that happened to me.”
“Forth…” I choked. The effects of his words on me is tremendous.
“I am at my happiest when I’m with you. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about us. About our future together.”
He pulled a small velvet box out of his pocket.
My breath hitched.

By opening with a story about suicide, I want the reader to understand that the injustice was not just something that happened long ago. This book is an account of all the accomplishments and successes that I had in overcoming tremendous odds and challenges. I learned that I could overcome those limitations. I wanted to bring that hope and healing to others. Activities like that make life meaningful and bring me joy. The reasons why I was suicidal in 2019 were set in motion in 2000 when a meteor would come crashing down upon the life that I had built leaving me powerless to do anything other than watching everything burn to ashes - the home that I had, the life I had known, the love I had, my career, everything would disappear almost as if it never existed. In that one the year 2000, I could not imagine things could get any worse. But the nightmare would continue for the next few years... culminating in a suicide attempt in 2019. Now, I am connecting with others, building relationships, and finding a reason to live again. I am writing my own story of my life. I will fight against the injustice of the past and offer my gifts to the world. I have so much to offer. I have quite a story to tell. I hope you will help me to move on with my life.
