《Changed》Chapter 2

It's been two years since I moved to America. And let's just say, I don't regret it at all. I've made new friends, got myself a new boyfriend, and I found out that I had a quirk. Not the one that All Might gave me, my own quirk. Apparently, the circumstances weren't right for it to manifest. It needed to have an overwhelming amount of negative feelings or panic that could trigger it. I named my quirk Devil's Blessing. Cliche I know.

It was my first day at my new school. Apparently it's like the UA of America, just under the actual UA, the one I used to go to in Japan. Since it was the first day for me, I had to do the quirk assessment test along with another new student. His name was Jake Ranger. At this point, I could only use 15% of OFA without breaking any bones. Jake's quirk was called Wolf. It allowed him to have Wolf-like qualities; strength, agility, and senses. We met before school and we were instant friends.

The first thing I thought when I saw Jake was, Holy crap he's hot. Followed by me turning redder than a tomato, issuing quite a few questions from him. We talked about where we were from, what our quirks were, and other basic information.

"Today, class, we have two new students." The teacher, Mr. Henry, declared. "Please be nice and we are also going to take the first period to do quirk assessments for them both." The class cheered. "Please come in." Jake went in first. Most of the girls swooned. I mean, come on, he's really hot.

"Hey, my name's Jake Ranger. My quirk is Wolf, it allows me to have wolf-like qualities, and I just moved here from Canada. A few facts about me are my favorite color is red, my favorite food is lasagna, and I like going to the beach." Jake described.

"Thank you, Jake. You may sit down." When Jake sat down I finally came in.

"Hello, my name's Izuku Midoriya. My quirk is One For All and I moved here from Japan. A few things about me are that I like the color green, my favorite food is katsudon, and I like reading."

"Thank you, Izuku. You may also take a seat. We're going to go over the rules that we have here then we can go to the gym and test your quirks, ok?" Courses of yeses were heard in the class. Once Mr. Henry explained the rules we all headed down to the gym.

"You two can go into the locker room to change into your gym uniform then meet us outside. If you don't mind, the class will also be watching." I nodded and followed Jake into the locker room. I quickly changed and was looking for my shoe when I saw Jake without a shirt on. To say I blushed would be an understatement. The dude was ripped, he had a very defined eight pack. You could tell that he had upper body muscles, but they weren't too noticeable.

"Ummm...Izuku?"

"H-Huh? O-Oh!" Jake was looking at me weirdly. "Y-Yes?" I must've been staring!!!

"Are you okay? Your face is kinda red." He smirked. Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap.

"I-uh...I-I'm fine." I scrambled to find my shoe and ran out of the room. That was way too close. When Jake came out, he looked at me and grinned. I blushed and waved, still embarrassed by what happened in the locker room. He waved, winked at me, and turned around. My heart was practically jumping out of my chest. This never happened with Todoroki...Oh, I forgot about him... My smile was wiped off my face as I remembered when I found him making out with Kacchan.

"Hey!" I was pulled out of my memories when a girl came up to me.

"Oh, hello! You probably already know my name." I laughed.

She laughed, "Yeah, Izuku Midoriya. You're from Japan, right?"

"Yep!"

"I used to live there, too!" She exclaimed.

"Really?"

"Yeah, but I moved when I was five, so I don't really know much about it." She frowned a bit.

"Oh, that's fine. I can tell you about it." I offered.

"Really? Thanks. My name's Daisy Sato." She held out her hand.

"Nice to meet you." I shook her hand. For the next five minutes, I told her about Japan, All Might, and UA. She was shocked that I got into UA, and was really pumped to see my quirk assessment, now.

"I should introduce you to my friends!"

"Are you sure?" I asked. "I don't want to intrude."

"You're too nice. Maybe we can change that." She smirked and dragged me to a group of four. One girl, two boys, and Jake. Of course, he has to be here. I thought to myself.

"Hey, guys!" Daisy greeted them.

"Hey, Daisy," One of the boys I didn't know waved at her. "You're Izuku, right?"

"Yeah. Sorry, but what are your names?" I asked sheepishly.

"It's fine." The boy answered. "My name's Thomas Cook. That's David Solace , and that is Haley Carpenter. I'm pretty sure you already know Jake."

"Well, it's nice to meet you all." I waved.

"You, too." David smiled. "We better start listening, or you two are going to screw this up." I didn't even realize the teacher had started talking. Probably just re-explaining the rules. Wait, since when do I not pay attention? Eh, I'm probably just 'coming out of my shell' as my mom always says.

"Wow, such a vote of confidence." Jake rolled his eyes but started to pay attention anyways. I chuckled and tuned in myself.

"There will be three trials. One for strength, one for speed, and one for agility. For strength, you will test both brute strength, with weights, and grip strength, with a dynamometer. For speed, you will be running the 100 on the track, and finally, for agility, you will complete an obstacle course. Now, class follow me. We will be observing the tests from the viewing box. Let's begin!"

Okay, I thought to myself, I got this.

I did pretty well so far. Jake's scores were really good, I'm not surprised. His Wolf quirk really suits these tests. Nonetheless, each time, I only got a little below his.

There was this group of people the kept on yelling at both Jake and me during our tests. They would say things like, 'That's weak!', 'I bet I could do better!', and 'Wow, your quirks are pathetic." I tried to ignore them, I'm okay with being bullied, I can handle it. But, seeing someone else being bullied gets on my nerves. And for some reason, when they said things about Jake, I got really angry. By the time we got to the obstacle course, I was inwardly raging. One more word coming out of their mouth and I will punch you in your motherfucking face!... Woah! When did I curse?

I didn't have time to dwell on it because the countdown already started.

"Good luck, Jake!"

"You, too, Izuku." We crouched down at our starting points.

"GO!" I sprinted towards the first obstacle which was just a few hurdles. I quickly jumped them and started on the second obstacle. Before I knew it, I was on the last one, a rope that was connected to the roof that we needed to climb. I was almost at the top when I saw a streak of metal whoosh in between Jake and me and fall to the ground. We both stopped climbing, confused.

"What was that?" I asked.

"I-" Before he could finish, five streaks of metal wooshed past us, this time closer. "I-I think they're knives!"

"Knives?!" I panicked. "But, this is a quirk assessment test! Do you think it's villains?"

"I-I don't know." He looked nervous. A drop from here would definitely cause a lot of damage, it was over 500 feet!

"We need to get down, now." He nodded and we started descending. We barely moved a foot before more knives were thrown, this time only at Jake.

"Look out!" I shouted. He looked around, confused, before looking up and seeing the knives aimed at him. He tried to dodge them, and three missed and hit the rope, but one embedded it'self into his side.

"Agh!" He grunted and winced. An extensive amount of blood was pouring out of his wound. He gripped the rope tighter, sweat beaded on his forehead. It must've hit an artery! Nononononono... He's going to bleed out!

"Jake!"

"I-I f-fine..." He trailed off, his eyelids started drooping.

"Jake! Stay with me!" I started panicking more and more. Where are the teachers?! Another set of knives came flying towards me, I dropped down five feet to avoid them. I looked back at Jake, his skin was pale and slick with sweat from holding onto the rope and the bleeding not stopping.

"Hold on, Jake! Help's coming!" I hope... My eyes swept the gym, looking for the villains. I spotted a small hole in the ceiling, above the rafters, and the two of us. I could barely make out a small figure looking off the side. There! I need to-

"I-Izuku?" My head whipped back to Jake.

"Jake! The heroes are almost here! Hang on!"

"I-I d-don't k-kn-know i-if I c-can..." His eyelids fluttered shut and he let go of the rope.

"JAKE!!" Everything moved in slow-motion. Jake was slowly falling, you could see the teachers bursting through the doors across the room, still not going to be able to make it to him in time, and another five knives heading towards each of us. My mind blanked. I-I...w-what do I do?! I couldn't wait for the teachers, they couldn't get there in time and he would die from another knife aimed at his heart. But, my quirk isn't suited for this... What do I do?! I looked between the villain, teachers, and Jake. I know what I need to do.

And I jumped. I heard cries coming from the teachers and the knives were rushing towards us. Once I caught up with him, I shielded his body with mine. He couldn't take another knife, I could. I closed my eyes, preparing for the pain.

As we fell, I knew I was probably going to die. The only thing going through my mind was, Why? Why does this always happen to me?! Why am I always the one that gets bullied? First Kacchan and now these pricks! If any this hadn't happened, then I would be living a happy life! And if Todoroki hadn't cheated on me with Kacchan, I wouldn't be here! It's. All. HIS. FAULT!!!! Suddenly, searing pain in my back caused me to cry out.

This is it, I thought. The pain got even worse, and I squeezed my eyes shut and bit my lip to stop from screaming. It felt like the area from my back to my tailbone was on fire, and my bones were rearranging. I opened my eyes, only to see the ground coming closer and closer. My breathing quickened and I started hyperventilating, causing my back to hurt even more. I couldn't contain it, and I cried out in pain. This time my head pounded, it felt like it was being ripped in half and then sewn back together. I almost dropped Jake, black spots were dancing in my vision and I was barely stopping myself from passing out due to pain.

By the time I could think clearly again, The ground was about 100 feet away. Wait...shouldn't the knives have already killed me by now? But, I thought my back feeling like it was on fire was the knives. Then how come I'm not dead? There was clearly blood running down my back, I could never forget the sticky feeling of blood against my skin.

I finally looked over my shoulder and I almost dropped Jake out of surprise. On my back were a pair of Devil-looking wings. The bones were outlines in faint blood-red and the thick skin, I think, in between was forest green. There was a singe sharp claw-like thing protruding from the tips of my wings, one on each side. The knives were nowhere in sight, and my wings weren't even fluttering around, they held their shape. I was so caught up in examining my wings that I momentarily forgot that I was falling to my death and I started panicking again.

Wait, I have wings! I realized and concentrated on flapping my wings. After trying for another 5 seconds, I got one good flap in. 50 feet. I tried again, sweat was trickling down the side of my face, and my back was still screaming in pain, though not as intense as before. 40 feet. Another so-so flap. 30 feet. Flap. 25 feet. Barely a good stroke. I strained my muscles, trying to slow us down. It worked a bit, but the ground was too close, we were falling too fast, and I still didn't know how to use my wings. I turned Jake around so he was on top of me with my back facing the ground. I gripped him tighter, determined not to let go, closed my eyes, and braced for impact.

I slowly opened my eyes and I was lying on my back with plumes of dust around us. Wait, why am I okay? I sat up and immediately there was a searing pain in my head and tailbone. I clutched my head, after a minute or two, it dulled enough for me to fully sit up. I searched myself up and down, there was nothing other and a few scratches and bruises. My back and tailbone were still throbbing, so I took this time to fully examine my wings. They were humongous, they were as tall as me and when they were closed, stretched out about a foot on each side. When I was looking at my wings, I also noticed that I had a tail. It was pitch black with a plume of a feather-like material, but also looked sharp and dangerous. This tail would look better with spikes on it, it would help when fighting people. The minute I thought that black spikes sprang from my tail, so the tip to the middle was covered in them. The sizes ranging from the longest at the end to the shortest, closest to my back.

Wow...where did these come from? Wait! Where's Jake?! I frantically scrambled to my feet and saw an outline of a boy on the floor. Jake...

I ran towards him, he was also covered in scratches and bruises. But, the bleeding hadn't stopped and he was deathly pale. I slowly took out the knife and immediately applied pressure to the wound. Where are the teachers?!

"HELP! OVER HERE!!" I yelled.

I heard a faint voice, "Hello...?"

"YES! OVER HERE! HELP!!" I searched for a pulse, Whew. It was there but very faint. He's dying...

"SOMEONE! PLEASE! HURRY!!!"

"Hold on!" I heard someone yell back.

"I HAVE SOMEONE WHO'S BLEEDING OUT!! DON'T FUCKING TELL ME TO HOLD ON!!!" I screamed. The bleeding was slowly stopping, but his pulse was getting fainter and fainter.

"Come on....stay with me..." I pleaded, tears were springing into my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. He's not dead yet. There's still hope.

"Hey, kid!" I looked up and saw a teacher.

"Help! He's bleeding out!"

"Okay, I'm going to carry him to the medics, okay?" I nodded. For some reason, Jake almost dying was affecting me in a way none of the people back at UA did. It felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. Why do I feel like this? I thought to myself as the teacher picked Jake up bridal-style. What makes Jake different from everyone else? I looked at him in the teacher's arms. I sighed and he started walking, me following in toe.

"Kid, are you okay?"

"I'm fine..."

"Are you sure? Cause you got quite a lot of blood on your back and head." He looked at me worriedly. Wait...head? I slowly reached my trembling fingers up to touch my head. I felt the same sticky feeling of blood all over my hair, What's making my head bleed so much? I slowly moved my hands back until they hit something causing sparks of pain to shoot through my body as I collapsed.

"Hey! Are you okay?"

"I-I'm f-fine..." I blinked to clear the tears from my eyes. I slowly stood up, wobbling a bit. He looked at me skeptically but didn't question it. What was that? I reached up to my head and I touched the thing on my head again, it didn't hurt quite as much, but I still grunted. I traced it up, Is this a-a horn?! I felt one of each side of my head, I quickly felt the base and it got smaller as I got higher up, after about half afoot, they stopped going up and led to a sharp point. What happened to me?

I was pulled from my thoughts as we emerged from the plumes of dust. There was a nurse there and a few teachers as well as the rest of the class. Gasps rang out when they saw us. At first, I thought that they were looking at Jake since he was passed out, but that soon turned out not to be the case as they were looking at me and pointing.

"Oh my god!" Daisy shouted somewhere from the crowd, snapping people out of their shock. "Are you okay?!" I scanned the crowd, and I saw her running through them and pushing people out of the way. Thomas, David, and Haley following her all with worried expressions.

"Umm...I-I'm fine." She ran up to me.

"What happened?!" She looked scared and nervous.

"Yeah, you gave us a good scare..." Thomas looked at me. "We couldn't see anything. One second you're both climbing the rope and the next, Jake's falling. What actually happened?" I sighed and told them everything. They're faces morphed into shock, anger, and fear before they finally settled on amazement with hints of concern.

"Wow..." Haley breathed.
