《The Night Shift (Mike Schmidt x Reader)》17. Swing

(Mikey's POV)

"Get off of her, you purple son of a bitch!" I yelled. (Y/N) looked at me with a glint of hope in her eyes. Hopefully she wouldn't notice that this meant I was following her home. I just knew something like this would happen...

Vincent sat up, and turned to see who had voiced the insult. He stared at me, a look of surprise on his face. I wasn't used to any look other than that shit-eating grin on his face. I ran over and swung at his stupid head, and actually made contact for once. He fell off of (Y/N), crashing to the sidewalk. I continued punching him, but he managed to get his bearings back after a few more hits. I saw (Y/N) scramble up, her face red and leftover shock on her face. This only fueled my rage. I don't know what it is; something about the purple shit made me angrier than usual. It was probably (Y/N). I'd have to talk to her after this.

Vincent managed to dodge a punch that should've connected with his chest. Before I knew it, he was on top of me once again, holding his silvery knife over my enraged form. It was just like last time; I had lost.

"(Y/N) is mine now, Mikey. You don't stand a chance." Vincent gloated. I felt tears start to form. He was right.

No. No he wasn't. Sure, I still don't have any odds against him and his weird purple powers, but (Y/N) didn't belong to him. All he'd done is mess around with us. That was why he'd shown up again; to steal the one girl I truly connected with. I was tired of this shit. Sick and tired of Vincent and his antics. Time to stop messing around, Mikey. It's time to go full Toreador March on this fucker.

As Vincent moved his arm to stab me, I grabbed his wrist. He looked at me with fear in his face. "YOU CAN'T." I said in a strangely gravelly voice. I grabbed the knife and let my rage take control. I managed to get on top of Vincent, holding the knife over him in the way he'd done to me so often. He held up his hands in defeat. "You got me, Mikey." Vincent said. I rolled my eyes and got off of him. I grabbed (Y/N)'s hand and began dragging her back towards my house. She followed me down the still-dark street, Vincent lying on the pavement in defeat.

Once we arrived, I invited her to sit on my couch. She explained how Vincent had seemingly appeared out of nowhere and attacked her. Luckily, she was completely okay. I made some hot chocolate and sat down with her.

"Mike," (Y/N) started. "thank you. I was about to let him...you know." I felt a small amount of warmth start to appear on my face. "You were absolutely spectacular. Like the incident with Vincent in the pizzeria that one night, but in reverse." The warmth continued to grow, and I saw her begin to redden as well. "I don't know exactly how it happened, it just kind of did. I saw him with you, and... I just felt like he was taking away the one thing I had." I explained. I was definitely red now. (Y/N) was also looking extremely flustered.

We just sat in silence, drinking the hot chocolate. Made me realize I hadn't had coffee in a while. I guess I had a new...addiction. I mean, (Y/N) was just so perfect for me. She liked cartoons, for one. She was funny and could make me laugh, a trait few I had bothered to meet possessed. She understood Freddy and his crew, maybe even better than I did. She didn't seem to care that we came so close to dying so often for so little in return.

She was the only one that got me.
