I loved Spencer's apartment. It was much cozier on the inside than you would think from just seeing the building from the street or even his door from the hallway. The warm colors and shelves full of books made the whole space feel like a home. I was sat on his couch with one of his favorite books in my hands. Spencer was in the kitchen. He insisted that I stay out of his way and not try to help.

"Spence?"

"Yeah, Grace?"

"How much longer do you think?"

"Well..." I could hear him moving things about. "Maybe 10 minutes? Everything is finished except for the turkey."

"Alright."

I fell back into the book. There was light music playing from a record Spencer had put on. The smell of the food was making me hungrier by the minute.

Suddenly, beeping.

"Shit." I heard more commotion. I closed the book and looked over the couch into the kitchen. I saw smoke.

"Are you okay, Spencer?" I jumped from the couch.

"I'm fine."

He fanned the dark clouds away with a tea towel. He put on oven mitts and pulled out the lightly charred turkey. He stepped back, throwing off the mitts. I grabbed his elbow. His look of guilt made my heart hurt for him. He looked to me

"I'm so sorry. I calculated the weight of the turkey and the temperature and I had the timing right but something must have been off somehow." He sighed and pushed his hair back as he scratched his forehead. "I don't know what to do."

He was so upset with himself. I pulled him to me and hugged him. He rest his chin on the top of my head. "It's okay, Spence. I'm sure it'll taste fine!"

"I don't know..."

I pulled away so I could look up at him. He gave a weak smile. "Let's serve this bird." He laughed at my odd phrase.

We got everything together and sat down for our dinner. He was still looking glumly at the slightly over cooked turkey. But I didn't mind it at all. Every other part of the meal was great. And the turkey wasn't too bad.

"Spencer, this is amazing."

"Really?" He looked up at me across the table. I laid a hand on his.

"Yes! This is the best Thanksgiving dinner I've ever had!"

He laughed so that his eyes crinkled in the corners. I smiled back at him. "Thank you, darling." He raised my hand to press a kiss against my knuckles.

A phone ringing woke me up. I groaned as I rolled over. My hand landed on bare skin and I was brought into reality. I smiled. Spencer shifted so he was sitting up. I opened my eyes to see him picking up his phone.

"Hello?" His voice was rough and low. He was rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Okay. Yes. When?" He sighed. "Alright. Bye." He put the phone back down.

"Work?" He turned to look at me.

"I didn't know you were awake." He laid back down and wrapped his arms around me under the warm covers. "Yeah, it's work. Three guys-"

"No details, Spence. Not this early."

"Right. Sorry." He gave me a soft kiss. "I wish I didn't have to go."

"Me too. So much for your weekend off."

"Yeah..." He gave me another kiss before leaving the bed. I watched as he walked across his room and got dressed. I sighed and then did the same.

"Where are you guys off to?"

"California."

"At least you're leaving the cold."

"Yeah. I just wish I didn't have to leave you." He looked over his shoulder at me. "This job was a lot easier before we met."

"Oh, really?" I walked over to where he was. I did the last button of his shirt and flattened down the material. He started to put on his tie.

"I didn't have anyone to miss every time I went away."

"Well, now you have something to look forward to when you get back."

"I know. And I love that." His hands found the base of my neck and the tip of my chin and pulled me to him. My hands grasped his biceps. Our lips moved in a yearning synchronization.

"You can't be late," I said, breaking away for only a moment.

"I won't be." He went back in for more. His hold on me shifted to deepen the kiss.
