《Spencer Reid/MGG One Shots》6.2 - SR

You wake up to someone pounding on your front door making you roll over with a groan. The clock on your nightstand reads 11:47. You didn't get home until an uber dropped you off around 2:30 in the morning and you immediately stripped down and crashed into bed. Honestly, you don't remember a lot after your game of pong with Spencer. You know there was some more dancing, laughing, and definitely more drinking. You shouldn't have let Emily convince you to take those tequila shots and you barely even realized Rossi was slowly feeding you scotch. All that alcohol adds up quick.
The pounding comes again and you realize the only way to make it stop would be to go answer the door. Pulling on some sweats and a t-shirt from a pile on the floor you head towards the front of your apartment. Penelope really made a mess in your room last night when the two of you were trying to find an outfit. The knocking continues as you finally get to your front door and you whip it open to see the one and only Spencer Reid standing there with a smug grin on his face.
"I'm going to kill you." You grab your head trying to ease the pain brought on by your hangover and walk back into your living room. Reid follows you in, closing the door behind him.
"You might want to take that back. I brought doughnuts and I totally don't have to share if you don't want any," he taunts.
"I lied, I'd never kill you. Give me the goods, doughnut man." He puts a box of a dozen assorted doughnut down on the coffee table as he sits on the couch next to you. You pull the lid off the box and grab a glazed twist. You groan and close your eyes as you take a bite, leaning your head on Spencer's shoulder. He grabs his own chocolate covered doughnut with sprinkles and leans back into the couch getting comfortable.
You pick your head up off of his shoulder and reach to grab another doughnut. Holding the glazed treat in your mouth you head over to the kitchen and pour two glasses of water. When you make your way back into the living room, Spencer is lying down across your couch and has the tv remote in hand.
"Big plans today, Doctor?" you question setting the glasses down on the coffee table and pulling the doughnut out of your mouth. You lift his legs up with the doughnut-less hand and take your seat back, placing his legs across your lap.
"Well, my plans were to buy doughnuts and bring them here so I've checked off everything on my to-do list. You?" he questions back.

"My plans were to do absolutely nothing. Would you like to join?"
"I could go for that, but there's one more thing I have to do before I forget."
"What's that?"
"I have to give you your birthday present," he reaches over the edge of the couch and picks a gift bag up off of the floor.
"Did you not bring it to Rossi's last night?" you ask, taking it out of his hand.
"No, I left it at home by accident, but I wanted to get it to you before the birthday feeling wore off."
"I love it already." Spencer props himself up against the arm of the couch, his legs still outstretched with his sock-covered feet against your leg. You toss away the old newspaper he used as decorative tissue and pulled out a big box of 35mm film. You give him a questioning look as you place it on top of his legs next to you. At the bottom of the bag you find a camera buried in among more newspaper. "You're kidding," you whisper as you hold the camera in your hands.
"Your whole birthday party was about college so I thought I would stick with the theme. I remember you talking about how you took a film photography class in college and how much you loved it and taking photos on your phone just isn't the same anymore, but your camera had broken before you graduated so I did some digging with Penelope and figured out what camera you used and tracked it down and I had to go-."
"I love it so much, Spence," you interrupt his run on sentence. "Thank you." You grab the box off his legs and pull out a canister of film, popping the top off it. You slide open the back of the camera and load the film in, closing the back and reeling the film into place. "It just like riding a bike," you laugh.
"I haven't seen someone do that since I was a kid," he laughs along with you, watching intently.
You press down on the shutter button to get the first frame into place. Spencer gives you a small smile as you turn the lens towards him and snap your first photo.
"Incredible," you comment.
"But how do you know? You can't see the picture."
"That's the fun of it, dummy."
"Oh, I almost forgot! There's one last part to the present."
"No way, Spencer. This is too much, really."
"No it's not, it's just right."
"Okay, fine I give. Where is it?" you ask looking around for another hidden bag.

"Well, it's not really here. Actually, it's more of a place than a thing. The FBI still has an old darkroom in the building, but they don't use really use it anymore for obvious reasons. I talked to the guy who runs it and he said you're welcome to use it whenever, we just need to give him a heads up."
You set the camera on the coffee table and reach over, pulling Spencer in for a hug. Because of the way the two of you are situated you end up kind of lying on his chest.
"Thank you, Spence. You have no idea what this means to me," you explain resting your head just above his heart. He wraps his arms around your back and gives you a tight squeeze.
"Anything for you, Y/N." Spencer buries his nose in your hair, not letting you go.
"I love you."
"I love you, too," he says somewhat hesitantly, loosening his grip on you. You've been telling him you loved him for years now and you finally got him to say it back a year or so ago. Your parents always taught you to make sure the people you love know that you love them because you never know what could happen. That's especially true in your line of work. You feel his heart start to beat a bit faster under your cheek. Normally he doesn't react this way. You lift your head up to look at him, wanting to make sure he's okay. He's already staring down at you and you can tell there's something on the tip of his tongue .
"I'm in love with you." He said it so quietly you wouldn't have heard it if you weren't so close.
"You what?" you double check, sitting up a bit more. At this point, you're straddling his lower thighs and he places his hands on your knees, seemingly looking everywhere but your face. "Spencer?"
"I'm in love with you,Y/N," he finally speaks up, meeting your eyes.
"Since when?" you ask placing your hands on top of his.
"I don't know, probably about a year ago."
"Why haven't you said anything before?" He just shrugs in response, looking away again. You place a hand on his cheek, making him meet your gaze. "Spencer, why haven't you told me?"
"Y/N, you're my best friend. The last thing I would ever want to do is lose you, especially over something this silly."
"You think this is silly, Spencer? And why would you think you'd lose me?"
"Well, because you're not in love with me. I just blurted it out, and for what? Now you won't want to hang out with me anymore and things are going to be weird at work and everyone is going to figure out I made a total ass out of myself. This is just so embarrassing at this point, I should-"
"I never said that," you cut off his anxious rambling.
"Never said what?"
"That I'm not in love with you. You just made that assumption. I'm in love with you too, Spence."
"Y/N, you can't just say that," he says visibly exasperated, not believing you.
"Oh my god, you idiot. Look at us! I'm still here, literally sitting on top of you! Of course I have feelings for you, I just never thought you were interested in a relationship. I'm in love with you, Spencer, you have to believe me." You're practically begging at this point but he's still giving you that look. What else could you possibly do to convince this man? Grabbing the front of his shirt, you pull him upright, forcing your lips on his. Spencer seems to be in a bit of shock as it takes him a few seconds to respond. He brings both hands to your cheeks, cupping your face as you keep your grip on his shirt.
You pull away, not before giving him a couple extra pecks. Spencer has the biggest, goofiest grin on his face and you're sure you have one to match.
"Don't move," you order, reaching over and grabbing your new camera off of the coffee table. You lean back, still straddling Spencer's legs and snap a picture. He takes the camera from you and gets you right back, capturing a photo of you. He pulls you down onto his chest and extends arms out, turning the lens so he can take a quick selfie.
"Okay, now a silly one," Spencer says, sticking his tongue out. You laugh and pull your own silly face as he presses down the shutter button.
"Spence, I don't even think you got us in frame!"
"Honestly, I don't really care at the moment."
"Me neither," you agree. He puts the camera back down on the table and holds you tight to his chest once more. This time it's different, though. The two of you are not just friends anymore, you're much more than that. You don't have a name for it yet, but you'll figure it out soon enough. What matters right now is you and Spencer and that's it.
"I love you," he says, lips pressed to your ear.
"I love you," you echo, knowing it means so much more than it did just twenty minutes ago. Turns out, being 30 is not that bad.
