《OUTSIDERS || MAKI ZENIN.》She's better than you

"Get out of my house."
The older man held a threatening glare towards the young girl who fiddles the ends of her sweater. She looks at him then at his son, who silently pleads her to stay.
Maki frowns and passes them without wanting to provoke him anymore. But Tamaki stops her by grabbing her wrist,
"Please, don't go."
She yanks his grip away and doesn't say anything. She silently continues, closing the door behind her. She was left with literally nothing as the father forbid her time to grab her necessities.
Tamaki stares at the door for a long minute before gritting his teeth and snapping his head at his dead, furious at his own father.
"What the heck is wrong with you?! She literally has nowhere to go!"
"Oh, and is that suppose to be my fault?" The man sneered his eyes with a cold glare and Tamaki could not believe it.
"How could you do this? If you knew her situation, if you just listened to her, maybe you would understand."
"I do understand, Tamaki! That girl is a menace, a total disgrace. I told her to not come close to us or the house."
Mr. Hatsumi takes a step forward and tries to put a hand on his shoulder, but Tamaki shoves it off. A step taken back.
" She's been nothing but good with me. Did you know what she did, father? Not too long ago, she SAVED me from a curse spirit. A curse spirit, that's what those blasted things are called. You know, the ones I keep telling you about but you never believe it.."
His dad shakes his head in total belief after looking at him baffled. It's almost like he wanted to keep these curse spirits a secret but now that his son has met face to face with one, he doesn't know what to say.
'And the Zenin girl helping him, out of all people?!'
"No...no , no Tamaki..whatever she did, regardless, you don't know who she really is. And if they find out that I helped or that she was here, then.."
His breath hitched and he bit his lip, shivering from the frightening outcomes. Tamaki looks with an arched brow,
'Helped?' Tamaki could think of that. What did he mean by that?
"Then what?" His dad doesn't say anything the following after.
"So you're not going to tell me?" Tamaki asked once more. His dad takes a deep breath and looks at him, his visage all over tells his answer.
"I can't tell you."
"Are you serious.." He whispers to himself harshly, turning his eyes away. Tamaki has had enough. He shakes his head once more,

"You're a real piece of shit."
"Son, wait, WAIT!"
Tamaki runs past him to head to his room but his dad reacted so violently. He grabs his son by the shoulders and nearly pins him to the wall. Panic spurs around Tamaki's features and he starts to scream, urging him to let him go.
His dad tries to shush him but he just yells over him,
"No, leave me alone!"
"It's for your own good, Tamaki. Even if you don't understand-"
The boy cries and the man stays stunned. His grip starts to loosen when tears starts to fall down his cheeks.
"You've never be honest with me! Ever since mom died, you've lost yourself. You don't talk to me and I'm here all alone, wondering what the fuck did I do wrong..I can't help but feel pain when you decide to drink yourself close to death or you go and fuck your new girlfriend!"
He doesn't hold back in this moment. He had to tell him everything he felt,
"You never ask how my day has been, have I ate, have I been taking care of myself..you never respond to my messages and you don't give a damn if I lose friends because for some reason, you're too scared for me to continue Kendo or my martial arts class. You want to take the few good things that keep me going but you don't exchange anything in return..
His dad remains so speechless. He tries to rebuttal but the boy refuses to let him speak,
"She can't be around us, son.." His father softly whispers, the only thing he can say in that moment.
Tamaki pushes his hands away and slowly, walks himself up the stairs.
"To me or to you?"
"To both of us!"
"No, that's not true. Maki is a good person, I know it. You're the one that's got issues."
And with that, he doesn't look back and leaves a withering father. His eyes turn sorrow when his son goes up and slams the door from behind.
Tamaki flops to the bed and grabs the nearest pillow, crying out his last tears. Suki meows to him and he looks up with puffy eyes.
"I-I'm okay, Suki.." He tells the cat. "I'm sorry, I just had to let it out."
Even after that, his dad remains so mysterious and he hated it.
Suki blinks and looks at Maki's luggage left in his room then at him. He follows her eyes and then he realized,
"Oh my god, Maki.."
He had to get out of the house. He quickly changed into a new tee and some jeans and then heads to his nearest window that leads to the backyard. To make sure his dad knew he was "inside" the room, he turned up his radio a bit before leaving. He opens it and pulls his head out. He kinda gulps at the long height from up to below.

He would have to jump down to one of the roof platforms nearby and then make his jump afterwards.
He pulls the window all the way up and balance himself on top of it before making a daring jump on the platform. He makes a large noise and even his dad hears a loud 'boom' from above.
The father thinks it's Tamaki making a ruckus in his bedroom, so he lets it be. Tamaki stays silent on top of the roof but after, he creaks his way to the edge. He lets his body dangle on the side and he looks down, afraid he might break something.
But Maki was out there and he had to find her before he couldn't no more.
"Alright, here goes nothin." He tells himself before dropping down a bush. He lets out groan from the hard fall but he fortunately did not break a bone.
He gets up and dust off the leaves on his pants, and he looks intact with the exception of a few scratches on his arms.
He sneaks away and goes out to the streets, looking for Maki.
He was nervous to see the skies go gray so fast and he's still out there, unsure where the girl was.
Maki is a strong girl and she can handle herself but after what just happened, he can't forget about her right away. The two had to talk it out because it's 100% likely she knew what was going on with his father.
After searching around, he finally finds her. To the first place they reunited. She's at the coffee shop and when he goes in, she sees him.
"Tamaki..?"
She gets up from her chair and before she can say anything else, he hugs her.
"Oh thank goodness!" She blinks a bit before her hands found themselves wrapped around his back.
"Maki, I'm so sorry! I am so ashamed by what my dad did to you! You did not deserve that."
"I-It's alright.." She simply says.
"No, it's not! I don't know what you did but like I said, he shouldn't kick you out."
"Well, he had a valid point.."
"What?"
She sighs and looks left and right,
"Can we talk somewhere else?"
He nods at her,
"Yeah, sure, I know the place."
Before the two exit, the girl gasped out when he grabs her hand without a second.
She wanted to say something against it but the way he intertwined his hands to hers felt comfortably warm. His touch made her feel safe, in a way and she lets him guide her.
The two find themselves sitting on a lonely bench in a park nearby. People were walking in circles but not close enough to hear their conversation.
"So..my father knows you?"
She looks to her lap,
"Come on, Maki. Tell me this.." The boy asked, "Is my father some sorcerer or something?! He won't tell me a damn thing.."
She sighs,
"He was.."
She then starts to tell her story.
"As far as I know, he doesn't do missions anymore but he still works for them.."
"Them?"
She looks at him,
"Yeah, your dad works for my shitty family."
His eyes widened at the revelation,
"Your father trained many of the Zenin family, including some other noble families. But that father of yours is quite close to mines.."
"How come we never met?" Tamaki asked.
"Well your father quit full time after you were born. He did some missions, here and there, but he took up some other work. And that work was one of a blacksmith. But not for any type of weapons,
but off curse tools."
"Curse tools?"
"Weapons use to kill those curse spirits. Even non-sorcerers can use it too.."
She then mentions her own weapon with a smile,
"Your dad created it for me after many times he said no. But he couldn't push me away when I offered him all of my money."
She pushes up her glasses,
"I had to get one, otherwise how else would I be able to fight off those spirits?"
"You mention the use of curse energy, though. Meaning, some sorcerers use it to exorcise spirits. So, why couldn't you do that instead?"
Maki turns tight lip. Then, everything in her head flashes. Images of her being taunted and treated badly for not having curse energy at all. The fact she could not see spirits without her glasses.
When she left.
Yes, she'll have to start there.
"Tamaki, do you want to know why I left my home and why your dad is so hostile towards me?"
He stays silent and she looks at him,
"I left the family." She starts, "The truth is, I'm not your conventional sorcerer. In fact, my family considers me a non-sorcerer all together."
"What? But Maki, you're from a family of sorcerers.."
"I wasn't born with curse energy." She interrupts and this leaves Tamaki shocked. He has so many questions.
And she was about to give out answers.

Restart (Reborn as a Reluctant Demon Lord, Book 2)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is book 2 of the series! If you haven't read book 1 (which you can find here https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/34776/new-game-reborn-as-a-reluctant-demon-lord-book) then you should probably do that first to avoid spoiling yourself in the synopsis. But that's just a suggestion. If you want to be confused, go ahead. Have I used enough space so that you can't see this in the preview yet? Okay, good. ----- For a [Demon Lord], not even death is the end. So, after death, I found myself revived once again in the world of Placeholder as a grotesque monstrosity. That was my first reincarnation, but it would not be anywhere near my last. Disillusioned with the admins and their quests, and wanting nothing more than to fix the mistakes of my past, I set out with a new goal in mind. To bring back the woman I loved. Or maybe... to ensure that she never died in the first place.
8 173Unbound Reality.
Instead of coloring the pavement red with his blood and squished intestines Ben fell through what looked like stained glass. Instead of the sickening thud or a splat that would usually be heard after a body hit the ground from multiple stories high there was the noise of glass shattering. Instead of dying, Ben fell into a path of eternal life where he will inspire the stories of legend... It is a story about a man who wanted to move on from living as he had done everything he wanted to ccomplish, but instead of meeting his end he became God of his own world, his own sandbox. See him build a pantheon out of nothing and experience many tales that bards would sing across the world for eons to come. Extra tags : Omnipotent character, God, immortals.
