(narrator pov)
It was during March. You and your 2 friends had gone outside to play on the playground near your houses. It was fun, for the most part.
Until an ugly creature decided it'd be fun to attack you three.
(your pov)
I sat on the swings, closing my eyes and enjoying the breeze. My friends, Sakura and Tanaka were chasing each other with sticks pretending they were ninjas. In all honesty, I thought it was stupid.
"Y/n, come play with us!" "Yeah, Y/n! Come play!" My friends yelled for me. I turned around and looked at them. They were standing next to each other on the said, waving there sticks at me in the air. I rolled my eyes. "Alright alright" I said before getting up.
We ran around for a couple minutes, pretending us ninjas were on a mission. I always thought those two were too happy. But then again, what do I know? They could be faking it. Some people fake smiles better than others, like me. Matter of fact I rarely ever smile. It's not that I can't, it's just that not a whole lot of things humor me. If they do, then I'd keep it to myself.
Reason being, my mother always tought me to be resilient and not let people walk over me like a door mat, which is what she grew up with herself. Result, me always keeping the same bored expression 24/7.
My mother and father were almost always arguing when they thought I wasn't listening. It wasn't always like this, though. A few years ago when I was like 6, I came home from school and they were both waiting for me, smiling at my bus stop.
Whatever, me and the other two were running around for another 30 minutes before the sun started to go down and the sky turned a peachy color. Sakura turned around and pointed at something. "Y/n, what's that?" She asked. The younger girl ran to me and stood behind. I looked at a tree nearby and saw what she was talking about. A disgusting looking creature was hiding behind the tree.
"Hey, come on out and stop being a creep!" I yelled. I yelled for it a couple more times until it finally came out. "dO yOu WaNnA pLaY wItH mE?" It asked. I arched a brow. "No, we're good thanks though" I said before taking the younger girls and head back home.
Before we left the park, we heard crying. "Y/n Y/n, it's crying!" Tanaka tugged my sleeve. I looked at it. No, it was not crying but it sure sounded like it. "Tch, piss off! We don't want to play with you so find someone else!" I yelled. Sakura and Tanaka gasped and stepped back once it was starting to come towards us. I scoffed. The creature released some sort of tentacle looking thing and snatched Tanaka away from me.
"Tanaka!" I yelled. The creature held the crying girl away from me and giggled. "pLaY wItH mE y/N" It said. I frowned. "oR sHe GoEs" It held a sharper tentacle to Tanaka's cheek. I grit my teeth. "What the hell do you want?!" I yelled. The creature chuckled. "fOr YoU tO pLaY wItH mE" It answered. But before I could walk over to it, it stuck the sharp tentacle in Tanaka's cheek.
"TANAKA!!" I yelled. A wave of anger washed over me. I balled up my fist, and I felt a shock on my wrist and knuckles. "The hell?" I questioned. Lightning was flowing all over my fist. I shrugged it off and ran for the creature.

I ran faster than I normally do. I ran at it with full speed and punched the creature. It let Tanaka go. I caught her and made a run for it. I looked back at the still creature; waiting for its next move. But nothing happened.
.
I ran for Tanaka's house, Sakura's hand still in mine. "Y/n, will tanaka be ok?" Sakura asked me with tears flowing on her face. I frowned. "Yeah, she's gonna be alright" I answered. Truth be told, I didn't know what was gonna happen to her. Yeah, it was just the cheek but the tentacle could've been infected with something. Sure looked like it.
"Oh my god!" Tanaka's mother ran out the house once she saw Tanaka's cheek. "What happened to her?! Did you do this Y/n?!" She yelled. "No, I didn't. I don't know what did but some creature attacked us at the playground!" I explained. Tanaka's mother took one look at me and at Sakura. "I don't want you two anywhere near my daughter again, you hear me!?" She yelled. I looked down at the ground with shame. "Yes ma'am" I said quietly.
"Y/n, why did she yell at us?" Sakura asked. I looked at her. "She was just scared. Don't worry too much about it, alright?" I reassured her. She hugged me before running inside her house. I sighed as I walked back to my own.
.
"Mom, dad I'm home-" I opened the door to find my mom throwing a newspaper at my dad. I stood there at the doorway, watching everything unfold.
"You never cook, you never clean, you never help Y/n with her homework! It feels like I'm the only one doing ANYTHING around here!" My mom yelled. I watched as she took her bag and head for the door; only for her to stop once she saw me standing there. "Y/n...Y/n I'm so sorry you had to see that" She came down and pulled me into a hug. Naturally, I didn't hug her back.
"Please mom, I can't breathe" I managed to get out. She sniffed. "One day, I'm gonna get you out of here. I'm going to get you away from this household and into a better one. Ok?" She said. I shrugged. "Ok" I bluntly said. She stood up, looked at me one more time then walked out the door. Shutting it behind her.
"Dad, what was that??" I questioned. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He kneeled down to me. "Y/n...your mother and I-" "Don't love each other" I finished. He looked at me as if I read his mind. "Well, yeah, more or less" He said softly. "So what're you gonna do now" I asked. He sighed again. "Well, there's this thing, it's call a 'divorce.' You mother and I are going to get one. Don't worry, you'll still be able to see her; if you'd like" He said.
His words went in one ear and out the other. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Wait....so mom's not gonna be living her anymore?" I asked. A tear threatened to roll down my cheek. His eyes went soft. "Y/n, you don't have to be strong all the time for me. It's ok to cry" He rubbed my cheek as the tear rolled down. I sniffled.
"But why? Why can't you and mom just work it out like you two always did?" I cried. I went in and hugged him; crying on his shoulder. "I don't want you to!" I yelled. "You can't! We're supposed to be a family!" I cried again. His hand rubbed my back as he shushed me. "It's ok, Y/n. Your mom and I still love you" He reassured. I pushed him away. "If she still loves me, then why is she leaving me?!" I yelled before running up to my room. My dad closed his eyes and dropped his head.

I ran to my room, shut my door and locked it then fell on my bed and cried. I didn't worry about dinner, it wasn't even on my mind. My head was swimming with questions. Why is she leaving me? Why are they doing this? What happened to cause the divorce? Why don't you two love each other anymore? What about me? Why don't I get a say in this?
,
The next day, I woke up early and fed myself with a bowl of cereal. As I sat at the table, chewing my food, my mind was thinking of reasons why they were getting a divorce. I shook it off as I washed my bowl and head for school.
I placed my bike at the bike rack and head for the school library. The 4th grade building was the furthest from the rest, so I had to walk all the way across campus to get to the 4th grade library.
I set my book bag down and started reading a random book I picked from the shelf. A pink haired boy sat down in the chair across from me. "Hi!" He said cheerfully. I looked at him from the edge of the book. "Hi" I said blankly. He grinned. "I'm Itadori! Itadori Yuji!" He held out his hand. I sighed and put my book down. "I'm Y/n" I said monotonely. He giggled as we shook hands.
"So whatcha doin in the library so early?" He asked before the bell rang. "Could ask the same thing for you" I replied. He chuckled. "Cuz I noticed you were here early and you were walking alone, duh!" He beamed. I looked at him with my typical bored face. "Ok?" I said. I turned to my class room with him. "Wait, this is your class too?" He asked. "How come I never noticed you?!" He said lightly.
"Because I actually have the mind to not mingle in with those idiots" I looked over at the 'jocks' and the 'popular kids' sitting over in a corner, conversating over who knows what. "Ohh I see" He said. "Well, do you wanna be friends?" He asked. I looked at him. "Sure.. I guess" I said quietly. "Yayy!" He jumped with joy.
The teacher walked in the classroom and signaled everybody to sit down. Itadori left and sat in his assigned seat and the day began.
.
In the middle of our science lesson, I looked out the window and noticed another ugly creature sitting by the lamp post. I rolled my eyes and raised my hand. "Yes Y/n?" The teacher asked. "Can I go to the bathroom? It's an emergency" I lied. What I was actually gonna do was test if the same thing that happened yesterday could go on again. "Sure" She smiled. I got up and walked out the room.
Once I was sure that no one else was in the hallways, I ran down the the courtyard and approached the creature. It turned to me. It grinned then ran at me.
I balled up my fist and thought of the lightning thingy that happened yesterday. Soon enough, lightning was flowing on my knuckles again. I grinned and punched the creature. I knocked it back a couple yards. Once again, like yesterday, it lay still. "Tch" I scoffed and head back for the class room.
I knocked on the door and Itadori opened it. I made brief eye contact with him then walked back in the classroom. Everyone looked at me as if I was some super model. "What? Pay attention to the teacher, idiots" I said before sitting down. They turned back to the teacher but now without gossiping about my fist. It was still balled up and lightning was still flowing on it.
"Oh crap!" I whisper yelled, hitting my fist, trying to get it to stop. The teacher looked at me with concern. "Y/n? Is everything alright? Do you need to go to the nurse?" She asked. I looked at her and took this as an oppurtunity. "Yes, please. Thank you" I said before looking back at my fist, which was stinging from the lightning.
She gave me a pass and I ran for the bathroom.
I got to the girls bathroom and ran water on my hands. I sucked my teeth at the pain. "Dang it! It won't wash off!" I said. Another girl walked out a bathroom stall to my left. I looked at her as she looked at my fist which was now light blue.
"What're you lookin at?! Get lost!" I yelled. The girl gasped and ran out the bathroom. I turned back to my fist, which was now cooling off from the water. The lightning slowly began to fade away and I sighed in content.
.
I walked back to the classroom and asked the teacher if I can go to the front office. "Yes, of course sweetie" She said, letting Itadori grab my stuff and walk me there. "So what's goin on? What was with your fist earlier?" He asked. I rolled my eyes. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you" I said. He blinked. "I would!" He exclaimed. I looked at him. "Tch," I scoffed. "Fine. Earlier when I asked to go to the bathroom, I didn't go. I walked out to the courtyard and punched some ugly lookin creature" I told him. He looked at me.
"Tch, whatever. Don't listen to me" I said. "You prolly don't believe me" I continued. "Yes I do!" He said. I lifted a brow. "Why??" I asked. "You don't even know me" I said. "Well, cuz you're my best friend!" He said with a grin. I frowned. "Whatever" I said.
We got to the front office and Itadori handed my my stuff. "Well, see ya tomorrow, best friend" He beamed before walking off. "See ya" I said quietly.
.
I called my dad and he came to pick me up about 15 minutes later.
"So what happened, kid?" He asked. I looked down at the floorboard of his truck. "Well, earlier, in class, I saw this ugly creature in the courtyard, so I went out and punched it. And my fist was hurting afterwards and I had to go to the bathroom to wash it off" I explained in one breath. He looked at me. "O...k?" He said. "What did this ugly creature look like?" He asked. I gulped. "That's the thing, it was so ugly I can't even describe what it looked like" I said. He chuckled.
"It's ok. I see stuff like that too and people say I'm crazy for it" He said. He looked at me after that. "No, don't think you're crazy, Y/n" He told me. I shrugged. "I don't" I said.

The Legion of Nothing
Nick Klein is your average high school geek--if you can still count as average when your grandfather is a retired superhero, and you've been trained in the martial arts by his friend, a mysterious, immortal mercenary. After his grandfather dies, Nick inherits the last version of the Rocket suit, powered armor that allows him to shrug off bullets, smash through walls, and manipulate sound. Along with it comes the base of his grandfather's superhero team including the team's jet and trophies from forty years of fighting criminals and aliens. Together, Nick and his friends, descendants of his grandfather's teammates, attempt to bring back a superhero team that was originally formed during World War 2. Along the way they'll face the normal problems of high school (bullies, homework, and dating), and the less normal problems like supervillians and mysteries leftover from their grandparents' past. As a story, it uses the conventions of all eras of comics from the 1940s on, ranging from serious to silly. If you're hoping for a grim and gritty story, this isn't it. The Legion of Nothing first debuted on my website legionofnothing.com in 2007. In that period it's updated more than 900 times, is still running, and has had millions of pageviews. The first two years have been released as an ebook, receiving good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I hope you'll enjoy it, and that you'll review it and comment. You can also vote for it on Top Web Fiction and rate it on Web Fiction Guide. Member of The Order of Phantasmal Architects.
