《Steam of Britain》Chapter 49: Bothersome 08 Shunter

The yards were getting a bit over crowded, and the engines were feeling the strain a bit. So, an 08 shunter came to help, and this one was a bit, troublesome. When he came, he was BR black, and spoke, "Hello there. My name is Diesel."

"Nice to meet you Diesel," said Rattler, "We've been in need of an extra pair of buffers in these yards." "Oh, it is so nice to see another one of my class!" Just then, Max came with a load of trucks. "Ick, what a filthy object." "HEY!!" yelled Rattler, "That's my friend you're talking about!! I embarrassed myself so many times before I was preserved. It wasn't until a tank engine showed me how to shunt properly that I became the engine I am today!!" "Then you aren't a proper engine," said Diesel. Rattler just rolled his eyes, and said, "Come on, we got work to do!!"

Soon, Diesel had been working hard, and he was busy shunting coaches for the trains. The Flying Scotsman service left first, followed by the Elizabethan. Diesel was still learning, and he put the coaches at the wrong platforms. When Scotsman backed down, he was surprised to be coupled to Mallard's train. When the signal man sorted everything out, Scotsman was delayed.

When confronted, Diesel lied, and said it was Crovan who did it. "Crovan, are you having one of those off days?" "What do you mean? I just got back from a passenger service." Scotsman was confused.

The next day, Steve was given the wrong train, and he took the Midland Rush to the coast, and Tornado took coal trucks Huston. While Huston was expecting a coal delivery, they weren't expecting it to arrive on the Midland Rush.

Diesel kept blaming the other engines, and they were getting the full blast of the abuse. Diesel smiled to himself, unknown that another diesel was watching him.

Soon, Diesel was shunting coaches for a local train, when Daniel came up. "Well," said Diesel, "Now we got a proper engine!" Daniel just rolled his eyes, "I know who you are. Sodor has told me all about your little tale, Diesel." Diesel paled, and Daniel said, "So, you decided to spread more lies about the Steam Engines here too, huh? The Shed Master won't be pleased with this." "YOU TRAITOR!!" "We railway engines are all the same!! We have the same goal: To be really useful engines!!" Daniel then rolled off, leaving a very fumed Diesel behind.

Soon, the engines had heard of what Diesel had done, and the Shed Master had some to sort it out. "I don't expect engines like you to behave all the time, but I don't expect you to spread lies, all because of a different type of power. You diesels almost seem to be racist!!" Diesel looked down at his buffers. He was ashamed at the words said. He had heard of racism, and didn't want to be part of it, but due to his opinion of steam engines, he had a become a full racist. "Leave, and take your lies with you!!" Diesel then left, without another word. Before he left, he said, "I'm sorry for my behavior." He then headed off. The engines were taken back by this. Maybe there was some good in Diesel.
