《Whodunnit? Murder On Mystery Mountain》11 Hollow Flames

Calvin, Brooklyn, Ethan, and Sage stood waiting for instructions from the man himself, Giles. The butler stood in front of the area where Trinity had been burned to death. He stood there, pretending to study his watch. In reality, he was stalling. He didn't want this to begin. He just wanted to wake up from this nightmare. Someone in the camp was a killer. Could it be one of the four people here? He didn't want to take the chance of his plan being ruined so Giles finally stopped stalling.
The crime scene was glowing with the light of the great fire in its center. Still left burning, it towered so high, both Calvin and Ethan could have stepped through it. Ethan's eyes traveled the area around him. Almost as though he were calculating everything in his mind. Brooklyn watched him from the corner of her eye. "There's nothing here." She picked up a stick and poked the edge of the fire.
Sage looked to the center of the fire. Most fires had the same inner white glow to them, but this one did not. Puzzled, she picked up a stick just like Brooklyn, but instead of poking the edges, Sage plunged the stick straight through the fire. The flames before her began to flicker. "It's a hologram!" She stuck her finger into the middle much to Calvin's immediate protest. To everyone's shock, the girl's finger was not burnt.
"What the hell?" Ethan walked over and simply walked into the fire. They watched as he waved from inside of it. "We saw her burn!" Brooklyn staggered backward. "What kind of fucking twisted, psychopathic, evil minded fucker fakes burning someone alive?" She stood dumbfounded. Of course there was no response. The others didn't know what to think anymore.

It was Calvin who broke the silence. "I remember how Giles mentioned this in a news article once. The guests were given misleading clues to trick them. This is just like that." He pointed to the holographic flames. "Now we just need to find out where this is projecting from."
Ethan was ignoring him and looking into the center of the flames. There was blood everywhere. He looked over at the others. He decided not to tell them. This was a game after all and what could he possibly gain from giving out information. Ethan brushed a log over the blood and stepped out of the fire. "I didn't see anything in there."
Giles finally stepped forward. "Unfortunately, your time is up. You must now retreat to your cabins to await further instructions." The group of four all startled at once at the voice. Brooklyn turned on her heel and marched down the hill. Soon, all the guests had gone their separate ways. Giles watched them go, then turned back to the fire. "You sick bastard. A holographic fire? Never in my life." He turned and walked down the hill.

Jalan Suram : The 100 Fire Holders
"Why us?" Still staring at the unusually stationary fire of the candle he was holding, Agung voiced the questions in our mind. "Out of 2 million people living in this city, why are we the chosen ones?" As if on cue, the eerie laughter of children could be heard above us. Holding our own candle tightly, we resolved to ignore them and continued our discussion. It was a matter of life or death after all. More than half of the initial participants had fallen and the building became more crowded as the result. There were now more ghosts than the living and each step was filled with danger from the unknown. Either we solved all the questions now or we would become another addition to the ghost camp. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was one thing Novita found out after she accepted an invitation to a suspicious event from a seemingly legal company. Crowded didn't exactly mean safe. As more and more variables were added to the dangerous ritual, the higher the risk of death. At the same time, the higher the risk was, the better the rewards for it. But in the end, was it worth it? Note : This series was posted on scribblehub.com under the same name. The BLOODLANDS
The story follows a young lord in which a middle-aged man reincarnated into the body and gets a second chance at using the knowledge he learns from reading in his past life. No longer bound to the world of his library and university but in a world in which if he failed not only his death but the death of others are in his hands. This concept of the book came about from having two mild heart attacks and the regrets of not being more active in my younger life. Note: The cover of the book is from a painting of Richard the Lionheart at the Battle of Arsuf (1191) during the Third Crusade where he defeated Saladin. Painting by Gustave Doré (19th century).
