《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 43

My grandma was officially moved into the Style's household. We successfully converted the kids old playroom to a bedroom for her. Although the Style's household was anything but normal right now, having grandma here with us made everything better.
"Are you sure you're gonna be okay? We can just stay home." I said to mommsy who was trying to usher Harry and I out of the door. Ever since she found out about the miscarriage she's been urging Harry and I to spend more time together. Mommsy had two miscarriages before she had mom, she always called mom her little miracle.
"How many times do I have to tell you, Ana. We will be fine here. It'll only be a couple hours. Please go out and enjoy each other's company." She pinched my arm at my stubbornness causing me to roll my eyes. She insisted that the loss of a baby could ruin a relationship if we're not actively trying to heal together. I knew she was right, the only way Harry and I would grow closer together from this, is if we spent time together.
"Ready to go?" Harry smiled, approaching us. I nodded my head, throwing my bag over my shoulder.
"You two have fun!!" Grandma waved at us, closing the door immediately. Harry chuckled under his breathe, opening the car door for me before getting into the car himself.
He started the car but didn't pull away immediately. He sat there, a blank expression on his face.
"H?" I said softly, reaching over to grab his hand. "You okay?" He stared at me for a moment, scanning over my face a few times.
"I- I'm really glad we're doing this. I think your grandma is right, this is good for us." Harry smiled. "Think about it, we don't ever get time to go on dates or just spend time together alone as a couple. We live together, yet I feel like I haven't done a very good job at courting you." Harry mumbled the last part.
I gave his hand a small squeeze, giving him a smile.
"This is good for us. And you have done an amazing job at showing me how much you love me. Especially recently, and I appreciate that so much. More than you'll ever know."
Harry smiled at my words, leaning over the console to place a small kiss to my lips.
"Okay, let's go." He hummed against my lips, placing one more peck before pulling out of the garage.
Things were finally starting to look up for us. We both knew that we couldn't stay stuck in a dark spot. We had to grow from this, we had to be better for the kids, for us. For our future.

Once we got to the small diner, Harry instantly started to talk about plans for Christmas. It's the only thing we talked about for the entire meal. Christmas was only 3 weeks away and I could tell that it was a very big holiday for their family. Christmas has never been something huge for me, growing up I loved it. But after mom died, dad could care less for any holiday, let alone Christmas. I'd be lucky to get a present.

"So I was thinking this year, our color scheme could be white and gold, what do you think?" Harry asked, taking a bite of his burger.
"Color scheme? That's a thing? Isn't it just Red, white and green?" I furrowed my eyebrows at the thought of having a color scheme. Harry chuckled at me, he knew I didn't celebrate Christmas much so I'm sure he got a kick out of my lack of knowledge.
"We can pick any color we want. Have you been to hobby lobby? Their ornament aisle is basically a rainbow." He laughed.
"Hmm.. How about Red, white and gold? I really want red." I begged, there's something about traditional Christmas colors that I loved. It felt more natural and easy on the eyes. The thought of spending Christmas with Harry and the kids made my heart swell. Sure I didn't have many happy Christmas's growing up, but I knew what the ideal Christmas was.
Decorating the house, wrapping presents, elf on the shelf, cookies for Santa. I was excited to experience it all with the kids.
"We should head back." I glanced at my phone seeing we'd been out for 2 hours already. Harry nodded his head, throwing his napkin onto his plate.
"Just one more place I want to stop by on the way home." Harry grinned mischievously. I raised an eyebrow at him, not sure where he was planning on taking me.
"Don't give me that look, c'mon." Harry put some cash on the table and grabbed my hand, pulling me out of the small diner. Almost like a child, Harry ran through the parking lot, dragging me behind him with a huge smile on his face.
"Why do we have to run!!" I shrieked, slamming my car door shut.
"Because! I'm.. Excited." Harry didn't say another word as he drove away from the diner. He just kept the same toothy grin on his face, his dimples on perfect display for the world to see. About 10 minutes into the drive, Harry handed me a tie from the middle compartment of the car.
"You have to put this on, we're almost there." Harry grinned.
"What even.." I breathed out with a giggle, taking the tie from his hand and wrapping it around my head. "Okay.... You're not gonna murder me right?" I chuckled, earning a scoff from Harry, his hand slapping my thigh lightly.
"8 months into this relationship and you still think I'm gonna murder you." He chuckled. "I would've done it by now, Angel." He hummed, causing me to scoff softly.
The car came to a halt and I could hear Harry unbuckling his seatbelt and shuffling around before opening the car door, shortly after my car door swung open and his hands held my elbow softly as he helped me out of the car.

"Okay... watch your step here." Harry mumbled, I took a bigger step up onto the side walk. "Almost there." Harry said, I heard the chime of a bell ringing as Harry opened a door. Instant sounds of soft barks filled my ear and my eyes widened in the blind fold.
"Harry...." I said softly, hand squeezing his tightly, a smile grew on my face, I could guess where were are at the moment. Harry chuckled softly in my ear, planting a small kiss onto the side of my head. I felt his hands untying the blindfold from my eyes, the tie fell from my face.
"Keep them closed." He whispered in my ear. I nodded my head, obediently. "Okay open.." Harry said, I opened my eyes, the smile on my face growing even bigger.
Just as I thought we were in an animal shelter. Harry stood in front of me with a tiny little puppy in his arms, a black lab snuggled against his chest. A gasp left my mouth and I inched closer to Harry, my arms reaching out to pet the puppy, Harry handed him to me instead.
"Oh my gosh he's so precious.." I cooed at the small puppy in my arms. "Is he.." I glanced up at Harry with wide eyes, he smiled at me and nodded.
"He's ours, baby." He grinned, stepping closer to me and placing a small kiss to my forehead. "All ours." He whispered. Harry had been so against us getting a puppy, my eyes swelled up in tears as I lifts the puppy in the air in front of his.
That's when I noticed the black color wrapped around his neck, a small dog tag hanging proudly on the color.
Asher Styles
"Asher.." I said softly.
"It means, a gift of hope.." Harry said quietly beside me. He kept a small smile on his face and raised his eyebrow at me, unsure with how I would react. Asher. I nodded my head, he's perfect.
"That's perfect." A tear slid down my face as I brought the puppy back close to my chest. I know Harry is only doing this in light of our recent loss, but I think it's something our family needs right now. A little hope.
"Thank you." I smiled at Harry, who wiped the tear off my cheek. "I love him already." I kissed the puppies head.
We finished all the paper work and left the center, the puppy happy sitting on my lap.
"Penelope is going to flip." I laughed as we pulled into the garage of the house.
"Well, you guys have been pestering me for the last 2 months about a dog so, here you go." He laughed. "I think he'll fit right in." He smiled, rubbing the top of Asher's head. I nodded in agreement.
When we entered the house, the kids heads turned towards the door, Penelope's eyes widened instantly and she ran to us in the speed of light. Danny had no idea what was happening and probably could care less about a dog at his age.
"A puppy! That's a puppy!!" Penelope screamed, jumping up and down in front of me. I chuckled and knelt down on my knees, setting Asher onto the ground.
"Yes, baby. His name's Asher. Be very gently with him, okay?" Harry said, also crouching down next to me. Penelope nodded as he carefully pet the dog in awe. Her eyes stayed wide as the puppy timidly crawled to her before plopping his head onto her feet.
"I think he likes you." I smiled, pinching Penelope's cheek. Penelope grinned as she played with the small dog. She doesn't fully understand what happened, but I know she saw the way Harry and I acted after we lost the baby. She definitely knew that something was wrong, and this was the first time since they've come back home that I've seen her smile this big.
"He better not mess with my garden." Mommsy chuckled from the couch, Danny now in her arms. I chuckled and nodded my head.
"We'll make sure he doesn't touch your garden." I raised my hand to swear.
The rest of the day was spent with playing with Asher and setting up his sleeping little area in the living room and in our bedroom. Harry insists that we don't let the puppy onto our bed, I understand why, but Harry has clearly never had a newborn puppy before... Danny had zero interest in the dog, crying every time we brought the puppy close to him. Hopefully he'll grow out of it.
Mommsy started a garden in the backyard, and this time she taught me everything about starting a garden and also maintaining the plants and soil. We both knew that one day she wasn't going to be around to tell me how to do things like gardening, cooking, baking. I knew our time together was limited so I took every precious moment and held it dear to my heart.
The household was full of life, full of joy. A very refreshing feeling after a daunting couple weeks of darkness and doubt. We ate dinner together, as a family. Asher's small yelps and barks filled the house, causing Penelope to giggle at every high pitched bark.
No, my heart was not yet whole. But this was one huge step forward.
