《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 30

Chaos.
That's the only word to describe the Style's household recently. Both Pen and Danny have been staying home for the past 2 weeks in light of Scott's appearance in our life. The once tidied living room and kitchen was filled with clutter, dirty laundry scattered the couches and empty wrappers left on the kitchen table.
Harry's gone awol. He dove right into the case for Scott, the moment he woke up to the minute he went to bed. It was consuming him, as much as I want Scott to be found, I didn't want it to happen like this. Harry wouldn't let up though, no matter how many times I've pleaded for him to take a break or to just drop it in general, he was determined to figure it out with Louis and Niall.
"No this is great news, we're closing in on him." Harry spoke into the phone, I placed the third coffee mug of the day on his table in the office. I sighed taking a look around, much like the rest of the house, clutter was everywhere. A bulletin board hung on the wall with random notes and pictures placed chaotically across the board.
"Yeah, yeah. Perfect. Okay I'll see you later." Harry grinned and hung up the phone.
"I think we've got him." Harry stood up and grabbed my hands. I just nodded my head.
"Yeah? That's great news." I smiled at him, to be completely honest I wanted all of this to be over so Harry would stop stressing so much over it. He hasn't been spending that much time with the kids or me in fact.
Keeping that house tidy was never a big deal, but Harry would usually clean after himself which definitely helped. Now everything is just piling up on top of each other, I can hardly keep up.
"It's amazing news! This is all going to be over soon." Harry kissed my forehead before sitting back down in his chair and opening his laptop.
"How about, we go out for dinner tonight? All of us?" I raised an eyebrow with a hopeful grin. Harry shook his head instantly.
"No, not until we've got this all sorted out." He didn't even look up from his screen.
"Harry, none of us have left the house in 2 weeks. You can't keep us in here like prisoners." I crossed my arms over my chest. "I understand that you want to be safe, but the kids are losing it. You won't even let them out into the backyard. Look, Scott hasn't reached out to us at all. Hell, if anything he's probably halfway across the world right now trying to hide from you."
"I don't care, Anastasia. You're not safe until we've found him. Who knows what he's capable of." Harry glared at me. "I'm sorry, that you feel like you're a prisoner, but it's for your own good. I promise." He sighed, breaking eye contact from me once again.
I rolled my eyes at him and left the room, slamming the door shut behind me. Pen and Danny were in the living room watching tv.
"Did he say yes?" Pen asked with hopeful eyes as she saw me. I shook my head and sighed, falling onto the couch next to her.
"He didn't." Pen instantly pouted in her spot. She's been dying to go outside, begging me to ask Harry if we could go to the park or even in the backyard. She absolutely adored the outdoors and I knew she was bummed that she's been locked in the house for two weeks now.

"But.." I started to say. "I think it'll be fine if we go to the backyard for a bit to play..." I grinned at her. She instantly sat up in her spot and nodded her head eagerly.
"I'm sure he won't even notice." I whispered, she let out a laugh and instantly ran to her room to grab some shoes. We stood in front of the back door, I took a look behind me. He wouldn't be that mad right? It's just the backyard. We're safe.
Before I could second guess myself I swung the door open and Penelope instantly ran out, Danny following suit. She giggled and spun around in circles, finally being able to enjoy some fresh air.
The weather was getting cooler, fall was just around the corner and I couldn't be more excited to experience it with Harry and the kids.
"Ana, come push us!" Pen yelled at me as her and Danny ran to the swing set. For the first time in weeks, it seemed normal. Being outside, enjoying the sun, enjoying each other's company. Laughter filled the air as I pushed the two kids on the swings, Penelope's legs kicked frantically with each push.
"Higher! Higher!" She would chant, which of course I obliged. After swinging for a few minutes they were both ready to move on to the next thing, eager to be able to run around and play on their little playground.
It was heartwarming to be able to see them genuinely enjoying themselves, there's only so much you can do in the house and I know this was much needed not only for them but for me as well.
But all too soon, we were ripped out of happy little bubble.
"What the hell?" A voice echoed through the yard. The kids stopped in their place and my head whipped towards the direction of the house. Harry stood with the door wide open, his arms out and eyebrows furrowed. "Get back in the house, now." Harry said sternly.
"But Daddy! Please!" Penelope instantly started to cry, she fell to grass and began to kick her legs as desperate pleads continued to leave her mouth. Harry marched over to us and I instantly picked up Pen from the ground, not wanting to anger Harry even more.
"What the hell is this, Anastasia? I specifically asked you NOT to let them outside." Harry picked up Danny, he scowled at me, clearly upset.
"Harry, it's not fair. They're kids for crying out loud. They shouldn't be cooped up in the house for two weeks." I stood my ground. "There is nothing wrong with playing in the safety of our backyard. Penelope is losing her mind in there, why are you being so stubborn about this?" I asked, Pen still crying in my arms.
"These are my kids, Anastasia. I asked you not to let them out for their safety. Their safety is what matters most to me and you didn't care enough to respect that." Harry raised his voice slightly.
"They're just fine aren't they?! Your fences are 7 feet tall. Every gate and door and window is locked. Nobody is getting in here. I didn't take my eyes off of them once, why is it so hard for you to trust me on this?" I was bewildered with how incredibly stubborn Harry was being.

I could see a vein popping out in his neck, his jaw was clenched tight and I could tell he was probably holding back what he actually wants to say.
"That's it, huh?" Realization hit me. Harry doesn't trust me. That's why he's got us on lock and key, he doesn't think I can keep the kids safe anymore. I get that the whole situation with Scott is a little intimidating and not the best circumstances to be in, but you'd think he would trust me enough to play with the kids in our own backyard.
"You don't trust me." I said softly, voice barely audible.
"What? I- I didn't say that Ana-" Harry became flustered. "I do. I do trust you, that's not what I mea-" He continued to say. I just shook my head at him.
"Right. Well, the dungeon awaits." I rolled my eyes at him and walked towards the house, Penelope was sniffling in my arms, calming down but still upset.
"It's okay, Pen.. It's okay. Calm down love." I whispered in her ear, stroking her hair a little. I decided it was be best to go to her room, she was upset with Harry and needed to calm down.
I spent the next 10 minutes explaining to her why Harry was so upset that we went outside, as much as i was upset with Harry. Penelope isn't my child, and I wasn't going to make Harry sound unreasonable. Truth is, even though he was being super dramatic with it, Harry only wants the best for his kids.
"Daddy thinks we're not safe?" She questioned. I shook my head, not wanting to worry her.
"We are perfectly safe, lovebug. Daddy just wants to be extra careful lately. But soon, I promise we will be able to go out as much as we want soon. I'm sure you miss all your friends at school too, huh?" I asked her, she nodded her head eagerly.
"I do! I do!" She grinned at the thought of her school friends.
"Soon enough, little one." I nodded, grabbing a hold of her hand and opening the door to her room.
Harry sat in the living room with Danny in his lap, his head was tilted back onto the couch with his eyes closed. He looked tired to say the least, he hasn't been getting much sleep. I'm always asleep by the time he crawls in to bed and he's always awake before me.
"Daddy, wake up." Penelope poked his cheek softly. Harry gave a small smile, fixing his gaze on her.
"I'm not sleeping silly. Just resting my eyes." He wrapped his arm around her and brought her close to his body. "I'm sorry I scared you earlier, Pen. I didn't mean to." Harry said. "Anastasia's right, I haven't been very fair to you, to any of you. I'm sorry." He repeated. Pen nodded her head and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"It's okay Daddy! I love you." She said cheerfully, Harry chuckled and kissed her head.
"I love you too, bug." He scruffed up her hair. "How about you and Danny go eat a snack? I've got to talk to Anastasia." He offered. Pen nodded her head and the three of them went to the kitchen to pick out something to snack on, good luck I thought to myself knowing there was barely any food left.
Harry walked back into the living room and took a seat beside me, leaving a small gap between us.
"I'm sorry." He said first, not skipping a beat. "I have been unreasonable. I didn't even consider your feelings or even the kids feelings. I was just so focused on this whole case that I lost sight of you guys in front of me."
"I do trust you, Ana. With everything I am, I trust you. I've just been so caught up with everything, but that's not even an excuse for how I've neglected you guys these past two weeks. I've left you to do all the work around here, and even worse I've literally locked you guys in the house." He shook his head disappointedly. I nodded my head, glad that he's realizing his mistakes and actually owning up to it. It was a strange feeling, honestly. I've never had positive conflict, never had someone so willing to ask for forgiveness when they've done wrong.
"Thank you." I said quietly, fiddling with my fingers nervously. "Thank you for apologizing and considering my feelings in this situation." I added. "I get it, Harry. I know this isn't ideal and I also know that you are literally doing everything in your power for the situation to be resolved." I scooted a little closer to him, letting him know that I wasn't upset with him anymore.
"But please don't shut me out like that Harry. You've barely spent time with the kids or me. I'm so thankful that you're taking this situation into your own hands, it shows me that you do truly love and care for me. But we've missed you, Harry. I've missed you." I admitted to him. "We're gonna find Scott, he will be dealt with, but maybe we should let the professionals do their job?" I raised an eyebrow at him with a small smile.
"Yeah. Let the professionals do their job." Harry nodded, it sounded like he was reassuring himself more than he was reassuring me.
"I do love you. So much, angel." Harry lifted his hand and grazed it against my cheek. "I'm sorry I disappointed you." He kissed my forehead softly, his lips lingered a little before he pulled away.
We sat peacefully on the couch, comfortable in each others embrace. The kids joined us once they were done eating and we decided it would be best to enjoy a good ole movie with each other. I sighed contently, it's crazy how my two worlds have somehow collided.
Scott's reappearance in my life was a reminder of who I used to be. The scared timid girl that let people walk all over her. It was a reminder of the pain, the struggle, the endless nights of crying and arguments.
Then there's Harry and the kids, a symbol of a bright future ahead. No longer was I some weak timid little mouse that was afraid to use her voice. I was accepted here, I was wanted, I was loved. No matter how dark and sad my past was, Harry has given me every reason to believe that those days are officially behind me.
