《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 17

This is happening. I had to keep pinching myself to make sure this wasn't some weird awkward daydream I made in my head. I'm actually going on a date. Not just with anyone either, I'm going on a date with Harry.
"You alright, over there?" Harry's voice brought me back to reality, and I looked at him with wide eyes. He had one hand on the steering wheel, the other placed on the gear shift.
"Uhh, yeah sorry. I'm great." I smiled at him. He glanced at my arm and I looked down to see that I was in fact pinching my skin. I quickly released my grip on myself and rubbed the red spot it left.
"You're nervous." Harry pointed out simply. I sighed and rubbed my sweaty hands on my thighs.
"That obvious?" I chuckled. Harry's right hand grabbed onto my own and he rubbed his thumb across my knuckles, I watched his movements intently.
"You don't have to be nervous, Anastasia." He said lowly. "We're just having dinner.. we're going to have a good time." Harry smiled widely at me. That smile was enough to make my heart want to jump out of my chest. I was giddy, like a child finding out they're going to DisneyWorld.
"I know.." I smiled at him.
"So why are you nervous?" His hand never let go of mine, resting on my thigh.
"I.." I started to say but I paused, not wanting to say something wrong. Harry squeezed my thigh slightly, encouraging me to go on. "I just don't this to go south I guess.. I'm not used to good things lasting for me. And you mean a lot to me, you kids, this job. You guys mean a lot, you guys are good. I don't want to lose that because of my feelings towards you." I said truthfully. I knew the risks we were taking, if we try to be together and it doesn't work out, I'd be let go. I knew that. I'd be let go and Harry and the kids would no longer be in my life.
"You're right, this could go south." Harry said. "But what if it doesn't? What if this becomes something not just good, but something great." He said with a smile.
"We're not jumping in blind, Ana. We're taking it slow, and if at any point in time either of us get uncomfortable or decide "Hey this isn't what I want anymore", then so be it. We tried. You won't lose your job as the nanny over this, I would never do that to you." His words soothed me. It made me feel a lot better about us and this possible relationship.
"Thank you for saying that." I brought his hand up to my lips and pressed a small kiss to his knuckles. I glanced at him and saw a wide grin on his accompanied with a red tint on his cheeks.
"We're here." Harry pulled into a parking lot.
"The lake?" I looked out the window, he nodded his head excitedly. It was a really nice day outside, so I'm happy we could enjoy it with each other.
Harry grabbed a basket and blanket from the back of the car. We found a good spot near the lake that wasn't too crowded. Harry laid out his blanket and we sat down, he started to pull out drinks and snacks from the basket.

"I'm not sure what foods you like so I just made a guess." He pulled out some sandwiches and chips, a cheese board and some drinks for us.
"This is great, thank you." I smiled.
"I uh.. I prepared some activities for us." Harry scratched the back of his neck nervously.
"Activities?" I raised an eyebrow at him. He rummaged through his backpack and pulled out art canvases, paint, and paintbrushes. "We're going to paint?!" I yelped excitedly, he nodded his head eagerly. Obviously he was happy with my reaction.
"Yeah, I thought it would be fun." He grinned. "But! We're not going to paint just anything.. I want us to paint how the other person makes us feel." He said. I cocked my head at him, not completely understanding the prompt.
"Obviously, this is new for us. Our feelings and emotions are raw and new.. So, when you think of me.. When you think of us. What do you feel?" He spoke. "Whether it be a rose, a heart, a pile of poop. Whatever you want." He laughed. "Then when we're done, we'll show each other and explain it." He finished.
I nodded my head at his words, finally understanding the prompt. The smile on my face just wouldn't go away. This is a date, a proper date. Nobody in my entire life has put this much thought or effort into a date for me.
"Here, let's eat first. We can talk and get to know each other a little more." He handed me a sandwich and some napkins.
"So, Ms.Walker." He crossed his legs and faced me. "Tell me about yourself." I sighed, I hated that question. The truth is, I don't like talking about myself much. I don't think I'm that interesting of a person, so when people ask me that I never know what to say.
"What do you wanna know, Mr.Styles?" I retorted, my legs lied flat in front of me and I faced the lake, watching the boats go by. I turned my head to the left to look at Harry.
"What's your biggest fear?" Harry asked, I chuckled at his choice of question.
"Just jumping right in huh?" I smiled. "Disappointing the people I care about.. More so, disappointing the people that care about me. You?"
"Hmm.. I guess, if anything happened to the kids." He thought for a moment. "No parent should have to bury their kid, if Pen or Danny or any of my future kids if any, died before me... I don't know how I would cope." He said sadly.
"They're in good hands.. Nothings going to happen to them." I gave him a smile. It must be stressful being a single dad, especially with two little ones.
"Alright, what is the top thing on your bucket list?" I changed the topic, not wanting the mood to get dark.
For the next 20 to 30 minutes we went back and forth asking each other questions while we ate. I was super nervous about tonight, but being here with him right now I was at ease. I wasn't shaking or nervous, everything felt easy.
There was a lot I learned about Harry, it felt nice to open up to someone finally and I'm glad he was able to do so with me as well.
"Okay, are you ready to paint?" I nodded my head eagerly and held out my hands for him to give me some supplies.

"Alright, we'll do a time limit of 20 minutes?" Harry asked. My mouth dropped.
"You expect me to make a masterpiece in 20 minutes? Come on now." I laughed.
"Okay okay, we'll start with 20 and we'll see how it goes." Harry pulled out his phone and put some music on, I stared at the blank canvas intently. What do I feel when I think of Harry?
To be honest, I felt a lot of things, it feels like a blob really, so many emotions that I can't even describe it. I looked up at Harry who was already putting paint on his canvas, he looked so concentrated on what he was doing, it was rather cute really.
I grabbed my phone and took a quick picture of him.
"I saw that." Harry mumbled, not taking his eyes off of what he was doing. I stuck my tongue out at him and looked at my screen, it was a really good picture of him.
I took one more glance at Harry before picking up my paint brush and starting my little artwork.
After 25 minutes, we both agreed that time was up and we were ready to show each other.
"Okay, you first." I pointed at him.
"What, no! I believe it's lady's first, right?" He smiled. I shook my head no.
"It's lady's choice, and I choose you to go first." I said sternly. He laughed but held his hands up in surrender.
"Alright...." He took a deep breathe and glanced at his canvas one more time before flipping it over to me. My eyes scanned the canvas.
"A wilting flower?" I raised my eyebrow skeptically. Harry chuckled but shook his head no.
"Anastasia no." He laughed. "Well yes, but no. It is a flower, with some pedals that fell off, but it's not dead yet, it's still holding on." Harry spoke. "I'm the flower. See these petals on the ground, that's symbolizing all the pain and loss that I went through the past year.. Parts of me died with Danielle, but these two petals.. That's Pen and Danny, they're the strongest and healthiest petals on the flower. I stayed strong for them, right?" He explained. I nodded my head, not really seeing how this had anything to do with me or his feelings for me.
"Then theres these small pedals, the other things in my life that have kept me going. But let's be honest, a flower is nothing without water and sunlight, right?" Harry continued, he pointed to the top of the canvas, the sky. Half of the sky was dark and cloudy, but it blended with a bright blue sky with a yellow sun.
Next to the flower was a watering can.
"You're the sun." Harry spoke. I lifted my gaze from the canvas to his eyes. Those 3 words were enough to make me want to cry. "Ever since, we bumped into you on the street, it seems that my days are getting brighter and brighter. You are a sliver of hope in my once dark and gloomy life, you give me light. You make me hopeful for the future. I'm no longer scared that I will wilt away and lose myself. I have hope. You give me hope." Harry finished. His eyes darted all over my face, trying to catch any hint of emotion.
"Harry.." I said softly, too scared to speak since I couldn't trust my voice to be strong. "That's.. Really sweet." He handed me the canvas and I grabbed it, looking over it again and taking in the details of the painting. Granted it wasn't super detailed considering we only had 25 minutes. Nevertheless, it was beautiful and the meaning behind it made it that much more special.
"I love it." I said wholeheartedly. I was truly at a loss of words. "Now I don't want to show mine. I'm embarrassed." I laughed and covered my face. I picked up the canvas and instantly laughed from how stupid it was.
"I'm so sorry." I laughed. I turned the canvas to him and he too burst into laughter when he saw the painting.
"A DOG?!" He laughed, I blushed and hid my face behind the canvas. "Nooo, don't hide. Come on, explain it for me." Harry laughed, lowering the canvas from my face.
"Well.. You told me to draw what I feel when I think of you." I started to explain. "Well, I'm always excited whenever I see any dog.. Dogs are my favorite animal, they're a symbol of loyalty, trust, friendship.. companionship." I said nervously. "When I think of you.. When I see you, I get the buzzing excitement, I feel happy. No. I feel joy, when I think of you. You make me feel safe, the same way that dogs are seen as someone to protect their owner." I explained.
"Plus.. labradoodles have curly fur and you have curly hair so.. You're a labradoodle." I chuckled. Harry stared at me intently.
"You hate it." I said sadly. Harry didn't say anything , he just scooted a little closer to me. He grabbed the canvas from my hand and placed onto the blanket, he brought his lips to my ear and his hand rested on my cheek.
"You're making it really hard not to kiss you right now." He said lowly into my ear, sending goosebumps down my back. He pulled away and stared at my face.
"I'm glad you feel that way about me.. I am someone that you can trust completely. I know you have a hard past, and trust can't be something easy for you to form. So thank you for trusting me." He said softly. Harry leaned forward, his face only inches away from mine.
"Is this okay?" He asked closing the gap even more. I just nodded my head softly and before I knew it, I was laying down on my back, his hand pushed a strand of hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear.
His lips attached to mine and it was like fireworks exploded in the air. Sure we kissed before, but this kiss was much more intimate and full of emotion. A smile formed onto my lips, his tongue poked my lips. I could tell he wasn't sure if I was comfortable with it but I happily obliged. I could feel his lips curl up into a smile.
My eyes opened as we pulled away from each other, he wasn't laying on top of me but his head hovered over mine. He leaned down and gave me another small kiss on the lips.
"Oh, Ms.Walker.. What have you done to me." He said in a teasing tone.
