《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 8

It was now Friday, first week official week on the job is finally over. To say I'm exhausted would be an understatement. As good and behaved Penelope and Danny are, they're still kids and kids are tiring.
I'm leaving the house soon to go back to the apartment to see Tina for the weekend. As much as I enjoy being here at the Styles House, it's safe to say I'm excited to be with Tina in a kid free apartment.
I checked my phone, it's 4:30. Harry should be getting home soon. Penelope was laying on the couch watching Moana while I folded the laundry beside her. Danny was still asleep in his room and I needed to finish tidying up the house before I leave for the weekend.
I glanced over at Penelope and smiled, seeing her eyes closed and her mouth slightly open as she napped. She must have fallen asleep without me noticing. I lowered the volume on the tv, leaving it on to act as a sort of white noise for her.
I gathered the last of the laundry, placing them in the empty baskets in the floor. One basket for the kids, one basket for Harry and one basket for me. As quietly as I could I picked up the kids basket first, tiptoeing to Pens room to put away her clothes first then leave the basket in front of Danny's room to put away when he wakes up. Harry's basket was next, I stopped at his door, unsure if I should leave it outside or place it inside his room.
I slowly opened the door, unsure if I was crossing an invisible boundary he had set. I stepped inside, placing the basket in front of the dresser pushed against the wall. I headed back towards the door, keeping my head ducked.
Don't snoop, don't snoop, don't snoop.
Too late. Before I could even comprehend what I was doing, my feet stopped in it's spot. I lifted my head and allowed my self to take a look around the room. It's not really snooping, I just put his laundry in his room and now I'm walking out, but taking a look as I walk.
The king size bed was in the middle of the room pushed against the back wall. Large windows on either side of the wooden head board.
The walls were painted a simple grey color, pops of color were shown through the decorations. Framed photos were displayed proudly on the walls, a large collage took up the entirety of one of the walls.
The bed was perfectly made, as if the room was staged for an open house. Does Harry make his bed every single day? A mountain of pillows laid perfectly against the headboard and I couldn't help but giggle at the thought of Harry placing each pillow perfectly one by one.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, interrupting my.. gazing. Tina texted me telling me she's ordering pizza for dinner since she's too lazy to cook.
I let that be the end of my nosiness and head back to the living room to bring my laundry into my room. I tucked the clothes into their designated drawers before grabbing the things I need for tonight.
Just my backpack and my purse. I'll only be gone two days so there's not much that I have to bring. Besides, dragging a load of stuff onto a bus just sound likes a hassle.
The soft sound of crying made my ear perk. Danny must be awake now. I dropped my bags into the living room and then pressed my ear against Danny's door to see if he'd settle down and fall back asleep or not.

When the second echo of his cries met my ears I knew he was wide awake. I pushed the door open and saw Danny standing up, clinging onto the railings of the crib with tears streaming down his face.
"Hey darling.." I walked into the room and flicked on the light, he instantly squinted but stopped crying at the sight of me. "It's okay, you're alright." I cooed, taking him out of his nappy and scooping him into my arms. I changed his diaper quickly before heading back to the living room to wake Penelope up from her cat nap.
"Pen..." I knelt down beside her on the couch. "Penelope, it's time to get up." I whispered softly to her.
"Just a little longer mommy." She quietly groaned. My hand that was stroking her arm froze. She stirred in her sleep before dozing off once again. I sighed and relaxed my arm, Penelope is old enough to know that I'm not her mom. It hurt my heart to know that she instinctively called for her mom, and then it hurt a little more knowing she'd be disappointed to wake up to just me. Not her mom, just me.
"Mama." Danny giggled into my ear, I shook my head no at him, eyes wide at the fact he picked up the word just from Penelope saying it once.
"No Danny. Ana." I poked at his stomach. "Ana." I begged, I definitely didn't want this to become a habit, especially in front of Harry. He continued to giggle as I poked him over and over. I set him down, deciding Penelope needed to be up before Harry got home. Danny started to crawl around the room.
"Hey Pen. Daddy's going to be home soon." I used both of my hands to sit her up. She groaned.
"Mom." She groaned annoyed. I sighed and shook my head, my heart aching at her call.
"No, love. It's Anastasia." I shook her shoulders a little trying to get her to open her eyes. Finally, Penelope's eyes slowly opened and she stared at me.
"Anastasia?" She rubbed her eyes with her hands, I let out a sigh of relief and nodded.
"Yes, darling. It's time to get up. Daddy's going to come home soon." She sat upright, rubbing he eyes a little bit to adjust to the sudden shift.
"Can we make a fort tonight?" She asked mid yawn, dangling her feet over the edge of the couch.
"I'm not going to be home tonight, remember?" I said to her, she instantly frowned. "But maybe Daddy will make a fort with you!" I tried to cheer her up but she shook her head no. "Okay, how about we build one when I get home on Sunday night?" I raised an eyebrow at her and gave her a grin. She seemed happy with this answer and she nodded her head with a large grin herself.
"What do you want for a snack today?" I called, heading towards the kitchen.
"Surprise me." She called back with a hint of sass. I laughed at her answer, she's a sassy one for sure.
I decided on some cut up fruit and also a blueberry smoothie. I was in the middle of cutting up some strawberries when I hear Penelope let out a high pitched scream before hearing her yell at Danny..
"Danny no! My toys!" She shrieked. I jumped at the sudden noise, the knife cutting into my finger. I winced at the pain, dropping the knife onto the cutting board, my eyes watering instantly from the pain.

"Holy- Son of a- ssss" I hissed grabbed onto my finger that it now sliced open. My head instantly went light headed as the blood started to seep from the deep cut. I grabbed the towel that laid on the counter, I wrapped it tightly and applied pressure. I walked into the living room and saw Penelope pushing her brother away from her toys.
I rushed in and sat on the carpet between them, holding my finger tightly as I tried to keep Penelope from pushing Danny even more.
"Penelope you know that you're not supposed to push Danny that way." I talked to her lowly, catching her eyes with mine.
"He's destroying my toys!" She cried, the biggest pout on her face as tears formed in her eyes. Me too, girl. I sighed and nodded my head at her, letting her know that I understand her frustration.
"I know darling, but Danny doesn't understand. He's just trying to play with you." I tried to calm her down. Danny was now crying beside me, probably from the shouting that Penelope was doing and the way she was pushing him. Penelope continued to cry and laid down kicking her legs into the air, throwing a fit.
"Pen, I promise you'll be able to play with your toys all by yourself when I get Danny to eat his snack okay? But Danny doesn't understand that you don't want him to mess up your toys. It's important to share our toys remember?" I looked down at the towel wrapped around my finger, blood soaked up the towel quickly and I groaned. This is not good. Penelope started to calm down but Danny still cried beside me.
I heard the garage door open up, indicating that Harry was now home. I let out the biggest sigh of relief.
"I'm home!" He called cheerfully. I squeezed my finger tightly, starting to actually feel the excruciating pain.
"Thank God!" I practically shouted, jumping onto my feet. Harry walked into the living room, confusion written on his face. "What in the world is going on in here?" He laughed, seeing Danny and Penelope in tears on the floor.
"Just a little sibling banter." I shrugged. Harry chuckled, then his eyes wandered to my hand and they instantly widened.
"Anastasia what happened??" Harry dropped his bag to the floor and instantly stood in front of me. His hands were awkwardly placed around my wrapped hand but not actually touching me, not sure what he should do at the moment.
"I-" I started, embarrassed that I couldn't even prepare a snack for them without injuring myself. "I was just.. cutting up some fruit for their snack, Penelope screamed at Danny and it startled me so I jumped and ended up slicing my finger." I raised and eyebrow at him, embarrassed.
"Jesus Anastasia." His hand instantly latched onto my arm and dragged me to the restroom. "Sit." He instructed me to sit on the closed toilet. I obliged as he dug through the cabinet for some stuff.
"Let's see the damage." He gently placed my finger onto the counter top and slowly unraveled the now soaking wet towel. "Fuck." He whispered under his breathe. That was the first time I've heard him swear. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see the cut, knowing I would probably faint at the sight.
"How bad?" I groaned, keeping my eyes squeezed shut as tightly as possible. The feeling in my finger was going away, not sure if it was from the adrenaline or pain.
"Really bad. We need to get you to an ER." He grabbed a new clean towel and rewrapped my finger.
"But! Tina is wa-" I started to protest. I hated hospitals or any kind of doctors place. I'd much rather bleed out in this bathroom than go see a doctor.
"Tina can wait, Anastasia." Harry said sternly, shutting me up quickly. "Your finger is literally wide open and you need stitches. I'll drop you off at Tina's afterwards okay?" He quickly exited the bathroom, gathering the kids and their go bag. I sighed and followed after him.
He rushed everyone into the car, throwing their go back and my backpack into the back of his car. As soon as he was in his seat he was out of the driveway and speeding down the street.
"Harry, slow down, I'm not going to die." I chuckled trying to lighten his mood.
"You could get infected." He shrugged. "It could get so bad that they'd have to cut your finger off. Is that what you want Ms.Walker?" He said in a low voice. My eyes widened at his tone. Why did I find this so attractive?
"No sir." I decided to play along with his game and I noticed his hands grip the steering wheel tighter and his knuckles turned white as he shifted in his seat.
Then it clicked. Every time that I called Harry "sir" or even "Mr.Styles" He would shift. His composure would shift, his tone would shift, his eyes would shift. Did he enjoy it? My eyes widened slightly at the new assumption.
The rest of the ride was quiet besides the chatter of Penelope and the whines of Danny.
"Come on, let's go." Harry pulled into the parking spot and was instantly out the door, running to my side of the car and opening it for me.
"You didn't have to do that." I rolled my eyes playfully. I had a small cut on my finger, I wasn't crippled.
"What kind of man do you think I am, Anastasia?" He held his hand over his heart pretending to be offended. I rolled my eyes and opened the back door to grab Danny while Harry got Penny.
"Here, I've got the stroller." Harry pulled the stroller from the trunk, tucking their diaper bag at the bottom, I strapped Danny in and grabbed a hold of Penelopes hand while Harry pushed Danny.
"Hi." I smiled at the receptionist. "I've sliced my finger open pretty bad and I think I need stitches." I spoke to her. She nodded her head, asking for my information and giving me a clipboard to fill more stuff out.
We sat down waiting for my name to be called, Harry's foot bounced aggressively beside me.
"Harry." I said. He lifted his head to look at me. "It's just a cut. I'm going to be fine." I chuckle. He gives me a half hearted smile and nodded his head.
"Yeah.. yeah of course. I just, I'm not a big fan of hospitals." He mumbled softly. Oh.
"Oh my gosh, Harry! I'm so sorry. I could've came by myself. You guys can wait in the car, I'll be fine. I promise." I instantly felt guilty that they came along, understanding that Harry didn't like hospitals because of the accident.
"We both know you wouldn't have come if I didn't drag you here myself." He let out a small chuckle. "It's okay, Ana. I want to be here with you." He gave me a smile and a curt nod.
I shrank in my seat, hating the way my heart skipped a beat when he said Ana and that he wanted to be here with me.
"Anastasia?" My name was called. I stood up from my spot. "You can follow me." a nurse smiled. "Your husband and kids can join as well." My eyes widened at her words and my face flushed, I instantly started to protest and shake my head at the nurse.
"I- oh, they- they're not.. he's not-..." I couldn't even form words at the moment. Harry chuckled behind me, clearly amused at how flustered I was.
"Yes, we'd like to join." Harry answered, instantly standing from his spot. He followed the nurse into the hallway and I grudgingly walked behind him. Why am I such a mess right now?
"Alright, Anastasia. You can go ahead and have a seat right here." The nurse gestured to the exam bed. I hopped onto the bed, my legs swinging over the edge. "A doctor will be in shortly to give you your stitches." She walked out the door, closing it.
"Soooo... Mrs.Styles." Harry laughed in the corner, clearly joking at how the receptionist thought we were married. I groaned, bringing my good hand up to slap my forehead.
"Please stop." I blushed even harder. How could he even be okay with this right now?
"You couldn't even speak!" He continued to tease me and laugh in the corner. "I've never seen you so flustered!" He kept egging me on and I continued to shoot glares in his direction.
"Okay okay, that's enough. Mr.Styles." I groaned at him. There was a knock at the door and it slowly opened, a doctor coming in.
"Hi! Anastasia?" He was a young doctor, and quite attractive if I do say so myself. Harry thought I was flustered just then? This doctor has rendered me speechless. "My name is Dr.Evans, I hear that you cut your finger pretty bad huh?" He sat down on a chair and pulled it close to the exam table. "Let's take a look." He unraveled the towel on my finger. I winced slightly as the air hit the wound.
"Yeah, uhh cut it open while cutting some fruit." I said, my leg shook slightly, very uncomfortable sitting in this doctor's office.
"Ooooh, yes that's pretty deep." He examined it closely. "Nothing a few stitches can't fix." He opened a few drawers and grabbed his supplies.
"I hope you're not afraid of needles, I'm going to numb your finger a bit so you can't feel anything." I looked away as he injected my finger, I hated needles, I hated everything about this. "You're doing great." He said, patting my arm softly, trying to soothe me.
"Alright, I'm going to let it sit for a little bit. I'm going to grab the stitching supplies and by the time I get back, your pretty little finger should be all numb." He smiled at me, getting up from his chair and closing the door behind him as he left.
"Looks like Mrs.Styles has a crush on Dr.Evans." Harry smirked in the corner. I shot him a look.
"Stop calling me that, please." I glared at him. "And I do not." I exasperated, not sure if I was trying to convince him or myself.
"Mhmm sure." He chuckled, playing with Penelope's hair. "No harm in a little crush." He shrugged.
Dr.Evans came back in the room with a handful of supplies.
"Alright, like I said you shouldn't feel anything but if you do just let me know." He grabbed a needle and poked my skin. "Do you feel that?" He looked up at me. I shook my head. "Great. You can look away if it bothers you." He nodded.
I tried my best not to look at what he was doing to my hand. Praying that this wouldn't take long.
After about 5 minutes, he was finished.
"Alright, Anastasia. Your pretty little finger will be healed in no time. The stitches will dissolve on it's own, if you have any concerns about anything at all..." He handed me a card with his number. "Don't be scared to reach out if it starts giving you problems." I blushed and grabbed the small card from his hand. Taking note of how he called my finger pretty twice.
"Alright, that's enough. It's time to go, love." Harry said, emphasizing the "love". Dr.Evans coughed uncomfortably dismissing himself quickly, letting us know that we were good to go before hurrying off.
"Harry what was that??" I rolled my eyes at him as he smiled proudly.
"He was hitting on you, I thought it would be funny." He shrugged, content with the outcome. I rolled my eyes at him once again before grabbing Penelope's hand. He was hitting on me, but Harry shot down every chance of it going past that.
"Let's get going." I sighed. I sent Tina a text letting her know that I was on the way, and giving her a brief explanation as to why she was late.
"I'm just teasing." Harry dragged out the word, bumping my shoulder with his.
"Yeah yeah. Move your butt, Tina's being needy." I laughed, buckling the kids into their seat belts and jumping into the front seat.
"Let me see your finger." Harry held out his hand for me to put my hand in, he brought my finger up to his eyes and inspected it.
"You look tough now." He laughed, giving me my hand back.
"I'm always tough." I huffed and tried to flex my arm, failing miserably.
"Whatever you say, Anastasia with the pretty little finger." He laughed at me, teasing me even more.

The London Phantom: A Superhero Webnovel
London is an old city. It has survived floods, fires, plagues and the man-made smog of industry. It has stood firm against the armies of Vikings, Saxons, Normans and the aerial might of the Luftwaffe. It has borne witness to dynsatic feuds, civil wars, military occupation and the sin of regicide. Through all these disasters the city has survived not through force of arms, though its walls were once the envy of the world, but through adapting to the times. Enemies become dependant on the city, and the wealth of the world that flows through it, and so become new allies. If the rulers change, then the city welcomes them with open arms, and open lines of credit. In this way the city seeks to preserve its ancient rights and position of power. Superheroes are a new phenomenon. The first superpowered man walked out of the Nevada desert in 1950, and the world was forever changed. Across the planet, men and women with exceptional abilities made themselves known. At first, they were little more than another source of fear in the era of Mutually Assured Destruction, but over time attitudes changed and the concept of the Superhero was created in the city of Los Angeles. From there the phenomenon spread across the globe; superheroes went from being feared arms of the state to a symbol of hope in these maddening times. Times have changed. Sixty years from the emergence of the first superhero, the City of London stands on a precipice. Two years have passed since the madman Fawkes nearly brought down the United Kingdom and the remnants of the Bow Street Runners, London's premier superhero team, are struggling to keep order in a city that seems on the brink of collapse. London stands on a knife's edge, with criminal organisations that once stuck to the shadows becoming more bold, and ancient powers from myth and legend making themselves known. Alexander Laszewski has recently 'awakened' and has become entirely unremakable, effectively making himself invisible to the world. He must use his newfound power to navigate a city on the edge of collapse. If only he could figure out how to turn it off.
