《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 7

The events of last night played through my head the entire morning. Maybe there weren't a ton of words exchanged between Harry and I, but I learned a great deal about him. I was thankful that Harry was comfortable enough with me to open up even a little bit about Danielle. Obviously, he's not obligated to do it, but he did.
It's only taken a week for me to find myself loving this family. The kids have swallowed my heart and I've found myself wanting nothing more than to bring them happiness. They've already experienced so much pain and loss at such a young age, I couldn't help but empathize with them. If I, as their nanny, could make each day just a little bit brighter, that's what my goal would be.
There was still much to learn about Harry and his kids. There was still a lot for them to learn about me. But for once in my life, I wasn't completely terrified at the thought of letting someone in.
The weather was absolutely beautiful. I sat outside in the backyard with the kids, Penelope swinging on the small play set they had in the back, and Daniel stayed close to me in his sand box. I watched as he stood from his spot and attempt to walk but stumble like he always does. He's close to taking his first steps, I know it. I just hope that Harry will be here to witness it.
"Ma... ma." Danny babbled, his hands above his head. I laughed as his body wobbled slightly as he took a single step and fell onto the ground. "Oomph." He huffed in frustration.
"That's okay, baby. You're getting so close!" I said to him, helping him back upright.
"Anastasia! Come push me!" Penelope shouted. I picked up Danny, dusting off any sand that clung to his clothes, I buckled him into the baby swing that was next to Penelope's. I pushed Penelope as she squealed in excitement.
"Do you think we can have quesadillas for lunch?" She asked, mid air.
"Quesadillas! I think that's a great idea, Pen." I agreed. "You know what else is a good idea?" I asked.
"What, what?!" She asked eagerly.
"I think it'll be a great idea if you help me!" I then let out a gasp, "and you can put as much cheese as you want!!" I laughed, knowing that Penelope absolutely loves cheese. She must get it from her dad because there's always a stock of fancy cheese in the fridge, cheeses I didn't even know existed.
"Oh I love cheese." She started, "I like putting extra shredded cheese on my plate, sometimes daddy eats cheese with me when he drinks his juice. And when Uncle Ni and Aunt Amelia come over they always have a big plate of cheese and crackers and ham and grapes and strawberries and chocolates-" she let out a gasp and I couldn't help but laugh at the way she rambled when she got excited.
"Sometimes if I'm a good listener I get to eat some of the chocolate!"
I smiled, letting her continue rambling as I pushed her.

"Anastasia, why did Daddy leave so early?" Penelope and I were currently sitting on the couch, Danny was asleep for his nap and Penelope's head laid on my lap as we watched cartoons. It was well into the afternoon now, Penelope herself was due for a nap soon.
After lunch we all felt pretty pooped, wanting to just lounge around and snack
"I'm not really sure, darling. I think he mentioned having an early meeting tomorrow." I said softly, running my hand through her long wavy brown hair. "He kissed you goodbye didn't he?" Harry would never leave without saying bye to the kids, no matter how early it was. She nodded her head.
"I miss him." She said sadly. Her eyes stayed furrowed together as her lips formed into a pout.
"Oh Pen.." I giggled, trying to lighten her mood. The kids got so used to Harry being around the house, I'm sure it's not an easy transition. "Daddy will be home soon, don't you worry."
"No Ana." She shifted her body so her head was facing up to look at me rather than the TV. "I miss how he used to be. With mommy." Her eyes began to gloss over and my heart ached at the sight. I instantly sat her up on my lap, holding her close to my body.
"I know, darling.. He's doing his best. He loves you very dearly. You know that right?" I rubbed her back as she began to cry into my shoulder.
"I miss mommy." She cried. That, I had no answer to. There's nothing that I could do to comfort this distressed child in my arms, I would never be able to bring her mother back nor would I give her the same comfort or love that her mom could either.
"I know.. It's okay love." I whispered repeatedly into her hair. "I'm sorry." I apologized into her ear, that's all I could really do.
After about 10 minutes of me cradling Penelope while she cried, she fell asleep in my arms. Her breathing finally falling to a steady pace, her sobs silenced.
I sighed, relieved that she fell asleep. I tried my best to move, standing up to move her to her bedroom. She instantly stirred in her sleep and I froze, I sat back down on the couch and laid the both of us down. She instantly cuddled into my side and I sighed, looks like I won't be cleaning up while the kids nap. It's okay, Penelope needs this more than the house needs cleaning.
I pulled a blanket over the both of us, running my fingers through her hair to keep her lulled and asleep before fading into my own sleep.
~~~
"Anastasia..." Someone spoke into my ear. "Anastasia.." My eyes opened slowly, my arm tingled. It was definitely asleep and numb underneath the weight of the sleeping toddler. I opened my eyes fully and took in my surroundings, first thing I noticed was Penelope still asleep on my arm, snuggled into my chest. Then, Harry loomed over me with a small smile.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry." I sighed quietly. "I didn't mean to fall asleep" My head fell back on the pillow as I groaned with embarrassment. "What time is it?"
"20 past 4." He laughed at my red cheeks. I furrowed my eyebrows, he's gone early.
"Why are you home so early?" I was asleep for about 45 minutes. He shrugged, sitting at the end of the couch.
"I missed the kids so I decided to come home early." I sat up slowly from my position, Pen stirred in her sleep but settled once again. I nodded, I shifted the blanket so it would cover Pen completely and I scooted away from her sleeping body, closer to Harry.
"What is it that you do exactly?" I asked, the topic was never brought up before. I stretched my back a little, feeling a bit stiff from the position we fell asleep in.
"I'm the VP for this marketing company. Pretty standard and boring stuff." He shrugged as if it was the most casual job in the world. VP huh, no wonder he had money.
"She really likes you.." He smiled, gesturing to Penelope. "She's a sweet girl but she's never that comfortable with just anybody. Only to family." He spoke softly. His words made my heart warm and I smiled fondly at the sleeping child.
Family.
Slowly but surely I was becoming part of the family. I've heard the word millions of times in my life, but it's always been so foreign. My family turned to dust when my mom died.
A groan escaped from my throat as I applied pressure to my temple, a sudden pain shooting through my head. I winced, shutting my eyes.
"Are you alright?" Harry's face was instantly filled with concern as he sat up straight. I nodded, my head was pulsating.
"Yeah.. I just got a really bad headache out of nowhere." I sighed. I was prone to migraines, always have been. It's a shitty thing to deal with but it's become my normal.
"Here, I'll get you some medicine." He stood from his spot on the couch and held his hand out to me, helping me get up from the couch. I followed him into the kitchen and stood behind him as he ventured into the pantry. He placed two small pills in front of me along with a glass of water. I gulped down the medicine and water and thanked him, letting out a sigh as the cool water hit my throat.
"I better go check on Danny.. He should be waking up soon." I quickly hurried to Daniels room and could feel Harry walking closely behind me. I opened the door slowly and peeked my head in. Sure enough, Danny was already awake, he stood up, holding on the crib for support and he smiled at us. Harry walked through the door and lifted Daniel up from the crib.
"Hello sunshine." He placed kisses all over Daniels face and neck which caused the baby to squeal.
I laughed at their interaction, watching Harry change his diaper and tickle him, making him laugh in any way possible. I loved seeing Harry with the kids. I knew that it meant so much to Harry to be able to spend time with his kids in any way possible.
"Is it okay if I go take a shower?" I asked Harry. "Hopefully it'll help with this headache." Harry nodded.
"Of course Ana. I've got the kids. Go take care of yourself." He hushed me and I smiled at him gratefully.
I made my way into my room and stripped myself of my clothes leaving myself in my under garments, I turned the water on in the shower and let the water warm up. I went back into my room to grab my phone. A soft knock sounded from the door and before I could even respond the door was open.
"Harry!" I squealed turning around immediately, sure I wasn't naked but I definitely didn't want my boss to see me like this.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have come in." His eyes were wide and he froze for a few seconds before covering his eyes and turning around embarrassed. I quickly threw on the robe that laid on my bed.
"Okay, it's okay. You can turn around." I laughed nervously, my cheeks were burning of embarrassment. Harry turned around and his face matched mine, cringing with embarrassment and a bright red shade all over his face. He laughed, lifting up a small box in his hands.
"I uh.. I just wanted to give you these bath stuff.. Bath bombs and epson salt and all that stuff.. I figured a nice hot bath would be good for you." He walked towards me slowly, giving me the small box of different items. I took them from his hands and thanked him, still frozen in my spot.
Stop being weird, Anastasia. If you play it cool, so will he.
"Oh wow, thanks Harry. A bath would probably be much more helpful than a shower quite honestly." Harry lingered a little after this and I was starting to feel uncomfortable with the weird tension in the air. I shifted from one leg to another awkwardly, unsure what was happening.
"Beautiful." He spoke softly, his eyes stared directly into mine and I froze once again. As soon as the word left his mouth, I knew he regretted saying it. Almost as if he didn't mean for the word to slip from his mouth at all. My face must be beet red right now, heat instantly rose to my cheeks.
"Thank you, Harry." I gave him a small smile. He nodded his head and scratched the back of his neck and coughed awkwardly.
"I should get back to the kids.." He said slowly walking away to the door. I watched him leave and shut the door behind him.
Only when the door clicked shut behind him did I let out the breathe I was holding in.
"What the heck just happened?" I mumbled confused at what just took place in this room. I shook my head and locked myself in my bathroom, ready to take a hot bath and pretend that whatever just happened didn't happen.
Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess.
