《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 4
Advertisement
The first day went by extremely smooth, no hiccups or accidents. Penelope is extremely intelligent for her age and was a big help when it came to learning the ropes and finding things within the house if I needed help. Luckily Mr.Styles has the sweetest kids and from what I could tell, he's an excellent father.
Which makes my mind wonder where the mom is, what happened between the two of them? Obviously I'm not going to blatantly ask Mr.Styles, but it makes you wonder why anyone would willingly leave this beautiful family.
I was on my way to their house now, ready for another day of work. It was only 7:30 AM so I was a little early, Mr.Styles wanted me to come earlier today to discuss pay and living situations if I were to accept the job after this week. Obviously I'm going to accept the offer if it's on the table.
I rung the doorbell, my hand gripping the backpack strap that was on my shoulder.
"Good morning, come in come in." Harry opened the door, he wasn't dressed for work yet, he stood in his pajamas, his hair messily thrown around. His voice was deeper than usual, his accent more prominent than it normally is. Probably due to him just waking up recently.
"Sorry, I'm not in order. The kids are already eating, you can join them. I'll be right out." Harry shut the door behind us and scurried off into the hallway while I made my way to the kitchen. Penelope and Daniel were munching on their breakfast.
"Good morning!" I smiled widely at them. Dropping my bag against the wall before taking my seat next to Danny.
"Hi Ms.Anastasia!" Pen cheered with a mouth full of food, waving her had at me as she chewed.
"Just Anastasia, Pen." I smiled, popping a strawberry into my mouth. "Are you ready to have some fun today?" I grinned and raised my eyebrow at her. She nodded with a grin.
"Good, eat up then." I looked over at Daniel who was almost done with the food that was on his tray.
"Oh Danny, almost done with your food? Do you want more?" I pinched my hands shut and tapped them together repeatedly. "More?" I repeated. Daniel just stared at me, obviously not understanding what the hell I'm doing.
"You look silly." Penelope laughed, watching our interaction. I quickly hushed her.
"No, no, it'll be good if he learned "more" and "all done", so he can communicate a little, you know?" I laughed. I looked back at Danny and put his hands together to mimic what I was doing with my own.
"More." I said, signing it with my own hands once more. "Can you say more, Daniel?" Penelope burst into laughter and I laughed along with her. "Alright, we'll keep working on it." I placed some more chopped up pancakes on his plate and a little fruit.
"I'm all done!" Penelope shouted. I looked over at her plate to make sure she finished her food and I nodded.

"Good. Go wash your hands and then you can go play in the living room." She nodded and ran to the sink, pulling a little step stool in front of it and climbing up so she can reach the water. I sat in front of Daniel as he finished his food. I sang some songs for him, ABC's, Mickey mouse. Anything to make him smile really, not that it was difficult, Danny is a seemingly happy baby.
"Okay honey, it's time to clean up now." I took the tray off of Daniel, and put it in the sink. I grabbed a wet wipe from the table and wiped him down so he's not sticky. I unbuckled him and made my way to the living room to sit with Penelope who was watching Mickey Mouse on the TV.
"Anastasia, you can come to my office now." Mr.Styles hollered from down the hall.
"Okay, Pen. I'll be right back, I gotta go talk to your dad. You stay here on the floor and don't move okay?" She nodded, not taking her eyes off the screen. I got up and put Daniel in the playpen in the corner, placing a few toys in so he won't get bored.
I knocked on Mr.Style's office door softly. "Come on in." He called me in.
The interior of his office was simple, modern and very clean compared to the rest of the house. I took a seat in front of his desk, Mr.Styles was changed into work attire now, some casual black slacks and a button up shirt. His hair was still slightly messy as he pushed it around, trying to keep it up and out of his face, with no success.
"Alright, so I just wanted to solidify everything. So that way, if this week goes by smoothly, we can just jump right in." He took out a pen and notebook, jotting down some stuff.
"Okay, first thing's first. Pay.." He raised an eyebrow at me, expecting me to answer. My eyes widened, I didn't expect him to put me on the spot like this.
"Uhh.. um. I-" I stammered over my words, trying to think of a number that wasn't ridiculous. "Umm. Well, I'm not exactly sure how pay works for live in nannies." I spoke truthfully. Oh gosh, I must sound like an idiot.
"You know, me neither." Harry laughed. He turned to his screen, typing on his keyboard, probably looking up the general salary.
"Okay well this is a full time position and you're rather qualified too with experience and CPR certification." He spoke, mostly to himself as his eyes scanned the screen. He jotted something onto his notebook, squaring it before starting a list of things I wasn't sure of yet.
"Alright so, I'll pay you biweekly. All food and groceries will be paid by me so you won't have to worry about that and obviously you don't have to pay rent for living here.." He wrote as he spoke. "Basically if it has to do with the house and kids, I'll be paying for it. You'd be given a debit card for these cases, whenever you're out with the kids or if you decide you want to go grocery shopping for the house, that's not required by the way." He pointed out. "Feel free to add anything you need onto the grocery list as well, it's typically on the fridge."

"How about $1,200 biweekly?" He raised an eyebrow, and my jaw dropped that was way more than I was expecting him to offer, it was definitely way more than I was making at the diner.
"Uh, that's quite a lot , sir." I stuttered. He chuckled at me.
"Oh hush, $1,200 it is." He jotted it down on his notebook, and furrowed his eyebrows slightly. "After all, you'll be doing quite a lot with the kids and the household. It really is a full time job, it's the least I can do for your help."
"Alright, moving on. So as a live in nanny, you'll be here obviously. Typically you'll have weekends off, you're more than welcome to stay here of course, but you can also go out and be a young adult." He spoke with a small chuckle.
"I might have you watch the kids on some weekends, but hopefully on occasions like that, I'll give you a notice in advance." He paused for a moment.
"Also, sometimes my job requires me to travel, sometimes I would have you stay here with the kids but other times I might have you come along, is that alright?"
I nodded my head. "I don't have much of life sir.. So that's fine with me." I chuckled to myself, shamefully admitting that I really do not have a life to my new boss.
"Alright, I'll have some contracts for you to sign at the end of the week if all goes well. But that's all we need to discuss at the moment, you're free to go." He nodded at me, as if on cue his phone started to ring and he excused himself to answer it. I stood from my spot and left, closing the door softly behind me.
$1,200. My brain could hardly wrap itself around the concept of getting paid that much. Never in my life have I ever been paid that much a paycheck.
I walked back into the living room and took Daniel out of the crib, allowing him to crawl around within the living room. Penelope was still on the floor, she lay flat on her stomach, her head tilted towards the TV screen.
"10 more minutes of TV, Pen. Then I'm turning it off." I got up and headed to the kitchen, luckily, there was a clear sight of the living room from the kitchen. I grabbed Daniel's sippy cup and Pen's water bottle and filled them with water.
"Here, just in case you guys get thirsty." I placed the bottles on the coffee table in the living room and made my way to the kitchen to clean the dirty dishes from breakfast. I looked in the sink and noticed there wasn't a dirty mug from Harry's morning coffee.
Making my way down to his office once again, I knocked softly.
"Mr.Styles, did you want coffee? Tea maybe?" There wasn't a response, I knocked again a little louder and waited. I heard a small cough, like he was clearing his throat before a small come in echoed through the room. I opened the door slightly and saw Mr.Styles straightening himself up, wiping his nose with the back of his hand.
"Mr.Styles?" His head turned to look at me and I softened at the sight of his red and slightly puffy ones. Was he crying?
"Oh, I'm sorry.. I'll come back." I said quickly, not wanting to make things awkward. I started to retreating, pulling the door handle with me.
"No, no. It's alright. Did you need something?" He sniffled quickly and wiped his under eyes a bit.
"I noticed there wasn't a dirty coffee mug in the sink. I assumed you haven't had coffee yet and just wanted to ask if you wanted me to make you a cup... I'm making some for myself." I offered him. He gave me a small smile and nodded.
"Yes, that would be great.. Thank you, Anastasia." His eyes looked tired and they were already starting to swell. "2 sugars and some creamer, please." I nodded at his request and made my way to make our coffees.
I delivered it to his desk and left him to do his work, making my way back to the kids. I mentally punched myself for possibly making things awkward with Mr.Styles. Maybe he wasn't crying, maybe he just has allergies. But then again he seemed perfectly fine this morning when I got here.
"Hey, Pen?" I sat down next to her, flicking off the tv as it was the end of the episode she was watching.
"Yes, Anastasia?" She asked curiously. I paused, thinking if I should even ask her this question that poked at my brain for the past few minutes.
"Does your dad cry a lot?" I asked carefully. She frowned but nodded.
"Ever since mommy left..." She sighed. My lips too turned into a frown and I nodded, deciding it was best to leave it at that and not poke anymore than I already have. I looked around the living room, closely observing the picture frames that cluttered the walls and shelves. I got up and looked at a picture frame with Harry, the kids, and a woman. She was beautiful, no doubt the mother of these two angels.
They looked so happy, so content with life. Daniel was tiny, so this was probably taken near his birth. Pictures of her were still up all over the house.
So what happened to her? Was she still in the kids life?
