《help wanted - Harry Styles au》Chapter 3

Monday rolled around way sooner than I expected. I was on the bus headed to Mr.Styles house nervous yet so excited. Maybe I jumped the gun on quitting at the diner, but I was really hopeful that this job would work out.
The longer I sat on the bus, the more nervous and anxious I became. I was confident to some degree that I would be able to fulfill Mr.Styles requirements in the job, but the more I thought about it the less confident I got. The more I thought about how badly I want this to work out, the more I scared I am that it won't work out. Because when has anything ever worked out for me?
I closed my eyes and listened to the soft music playing through my headphones. It's just a regular job. It's just a regular job. I kept repeating to myself. There's no reason to get so worked up about this Anastasia.
I looked out the window at the trees and buildings that whizzed by. The farther we got from my apartment the houses and scenery appeared cleaner and more luxurious, the complete opposite of my side of town. The grass lawns were bold in their deep green color, lush and freshly mowed. It's the type of lawns you'd be comfortable laying in with no fear that you're going to end up on a pile of dog poop. The bushes that lined the residents were perfectly rounded, fluffed and clean.
Mr.Styles never specified what he did for work, but according to the neighborhood we were approaching, he was pretty well off.
The bus came to a holt and it was my cue to exit the bus. I looked down at my phone and google mapped the rest of the way to their house, about an 8 minute walk from the bus stop. My hair swung in it's ponytail as I picked up my pace towards the house, not wanting to be late on my first day. I approached the house and was a little shocked at how nice it was. It was nice but not too crazy like the other houses surrounding it.
Nevertheless the exterior house was beautiful and I could only imagine what the inside is going to look at.
I rang the doorbell and waited patiently for the door to open, my heart beat picking up just a little. Here we go.
"Penelope, please. Not right now!" I could hear Mr.Styles shout through the door, the door swung open and he greeted me with a smile.
"Ms.Walker! Come in, come in!" He cheered, I stepped into their home. Mr.Styles closed the door behind me. I looked at him and noticed he was in slacks and a button up shirt.
"Oh, I thought you said you'd be working from home?" I asked confused. He chuckled with a nod.
"Yeah, I still like to get dressed as if I am going to the office. It makes me more productive, I feel like." He shrugged. "Sorry for the mess, I didn't have time to clean up last night." He said shamefully as we walked into the living room.

Just as he said, it was a mess. Toys were laid out everywhere. Laundry that needed to be folded sat on the couch and random items from all over the house thrown across the floor. My eyes widened slightly at the sight but I quickly fixed my gaze, not wanting my new boss to see my reaction. Instead I offered him a smile, making a mental note to make some time to pick up for him.
"The kids are in the kitchen eating breakfast, I made some extra for you, just in case you were hungry." He led me to the kitchen where the kids sat, Penelope sat at the table and Daniel in a high chair opposite of her.
"Look guys, it's Ms. Walker-"
"Oh, please. Anastasia is fine. No need for the formalities." I quickly hushed Mr.Styles. He nodded slightly and pulled out the chair next to Danny for me to sit in.
"Alright, so I'm pretty booked with meetings today so I'll be in my office for the majority of the time. But please feel free to come in if you need anything at all." Mr.Styles leaned against the countertop with a sipping on his coffee.
"I've been trying to get them on the same eating schedule, they don't seem to fuss at it much. Daniel takes one more nap than Penelope. But they both eat at the same time. Lunch is at 11, there's some food prepared for them in the fridge, just heat it up. Now I was hoping that you would be comfortable with cooking, I won't be able to prep every single meal of the day and I hope you're okay with that." He raised and eyebrow at me and I nodded.
"No problem at all, Mr.Styles." I smiled. His eyes altered a bit at my words but then continued speaking regardless.
He handed me a paper with the kids schedule printed onto it, I smiled at him thankful that I didn't have to memorize everything he was saying, God knows I wouldn't have been able to.
"Alright after they eat lunch, they can play for a little bit. Daniel goes down for a nap at 12, I'll show you his routine in a bit. Penelope can stay up till 1, then she takes her nap. Danny's sleep schedule varies. Sometimes he sleeps for 30 minutes, sometimes he'll nap for 2 hours. I just try not to let him sleep for more than 2 and a half hours." He continued to speak and I tried my best to keep up and pay attention to the words that slipped from his lips.
"Penelope wakes up at 2:30 normally, And then Daniel goes down for another nap at 4, a short one, I'm trying to ween him off of two naps and transition into one, so if you could help me reinforce that, that would be lovely. We eat dinner around 5:30 or 6 and then bath time around 6:45 and Daniel sleeps at 7:30 and Pen at 8." He finished.

"Will you be staying the night?" He questioned. I shook my head quickly, caught off guard.
"N- No. Uh I didn't bring any extra clothes or anything." I stuttered.
"No worries, I should be done with work at 6 so you can leave once I'm off if you'd like." He suggested.
"Thanks, but I think I'll stay to see how everything is. I'll head out after they're down for bed." I sipped on the cup of water that was poured for me.
"Alright, perfect. Come on kids, let's get cleaned up and you can go play." Mr.Styles smiled, Penelope hopped out of her chair happily and skipped towards the living room with her toys. Mr.Styles took the top off of the high chair and unstrapped Daniel, scooping him up in his arms.
"Here, I'll give you the tour." He tilted his head, signaling me to follow him. "They're typically alright to play by themselves. Of course I don't recommend you take your eyes off them for a long period of time, but if you need you use the restroom or anything like that it's more or less safe to let them be."
"Alright so obviously, this is the kitchen, the dining room is right next to it. Then this is the living room." We weaved our way in and out of the rooms. "Down this hall are the kids rooms, there's a bathroom right here, Pen's room is first on the left and Daniel's is second on the left. This room on the right is a playroom." The rooms were beautifully decorated. A tad messy but the design was beautiful nonetheless.
The furniture fit the rooms perfectly. Penelope's room was painted a lavender color, her furniture was white with gold accents. A tiny little rug laid in the corner of the room where there was a bookshelf filled to the brim with a basket of stuffed animals next to it.
Danny's room was painted a safe green color, his furniture was brown and the rattan look was scattered around the room. The light fixture being a rattan cage around the dangling bulb. Framed paintings lined the wall, one of a cub, one of a giraffe, one of a baby grizzly bear.
"Then through this hallway is my office, my bedroom is right down the hall towards the end, and this one, would be yours." He opened the door to what would be my room and I entered.
"It's pretty." I said simply doing a 360 spin to see the entire room, the walls were painted a light grey, a full sized bed in the middle pushed against the wall, a desk against the opposite wall and a TV mounted up as well. There was a connecting bathroom attached to the bedroom and I instantly felt spoilt. I've never had a room this big or nice.
"This is really nice, thank you Mr.Styles." I smiled at him, he nodded, still holding onto Daniel in his arms. "It's beautiful."
"Alright, let me show you what we do for their nap times. Penelope is easy, just tuck her in and read a few books to her, she'll sleep on her own. Daniel's pretty good too but he gets a little fussy sometimes." We walked into Daniels room and he set him down to crawl around.
"He's not walking yet, but he's still a speedster. Got me running around the house chasing him." Mr.Styles laughed, running a hand through his brown hair, pushing it out of his face. A loose strand fell from the rest, resting against his forehead. I resisted the urge to bite my lip, he may be attractive but he's your boss now Anastasia.
"So, here are his books, you can sit in the chair and read a few to him. Then sing him a few songs and put him in his nappy to sleep, it just zips right up and keeps him snug. Here are his pacifiers, I only give it to him when he sleeps, so he doesn't get too attached. Once he's in bed theres a little white noise here that you turn on, just tap it. And that's pretty much it, he'll cry for a little when you leave the room but he'll fall asleep soon enough. The baby monitor is somewhere in the living room or kitchen, I'll find it and give it to you." He picks Daniel back up and we head back to the living room where Penelope was playing with her dolls.
"Anastasia! Come play with me!" She squealed as she saw us enter the room.
"Go on, I'm just gonna grab the baby monitor for you." Mr.Styles handed me Daniel and headed for the kitchen.
"Wow, look at all your toys! Which one is your favorite?" I smiled and sat down next to Penelope, letting Daniel crawl around.
"Here's the monitor, I'll put it right here for when you need it. I gotta start working, so I'll leave you to it." He smiled and disappeared down the hallway. "Feel free to come into my office if you have any questions. Make yourself at home, I want you to be comfortable. Feel free to eat anything in the kitchen that you might want, what's ours is yours now." He nodded at me.
"Thanks. I appreciate that, Mr.Styles."
"Right, well like I said, feel free to come to my office if you have any questions." He gave me one more curt nod before turning in his spot disappearing into the hallway.
Alright, Anastasia, easy enough.
"Anastasia?" Penelope looked up at me.
"Yes, dear?" I ran my hand threw her tangled hair.
"You're very pretty." She smiled. I grinned down at her.
"So are you. You are so very pretty." I pinched her cheeks.

A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.

It Sucks Being a Side Character
Beat the bad guy, save the day, get the girl. These are the three steps of success every good Hero strives for. But for Lee, those three things are an impossible bucket list. For a side character, there's no beating the bad guy, there's no saving the day, and there's definitely no getting the girl!As a side character in a typical Shonen story, all that awaits Lee is loss, cliches, filler arcs, and a whole lot of cheering the protagonist along from the sidelines. Can Lee change his destiny in a group full of walking tropes? Or will he be stuck watching from the sidelines? Only one thing is for sure, it sucks being a side character!
