《love or host - tommyinnit》chapter 54- channelnutpig

after our wedding, tommy and i go on a short honeymoon (which only consists of us standing in a mushroom biome while everyone follows us and giggles. they claim they were "quietly watching" but they were far from quiet). we all end our streams and meet in the living room.
"that was so fun!" niki exclaims happily.
"we even had a wedding," karl says, shooting tommy and me a look.
"not to mention you CHEATED ON NICK AND ME!" alex accuses, crossing his arms and pouting.
"it was all a bit! i promise!"
"don't do it again."
"of course not."
we all decide to watch each other's embarrassing first youtube videos together to pass time. some videos aren't bad at all, like niki's and clay's, but that changes when we get to tommy.
"tommyinnit..." i mutter, typing his name into the youtube search bar on the tv.
"oh no no no," wilbur says, motioning for me to pass the remote. "the real goldmine is at channelnutpig."
"NO!" tommy shouts. "do NOT show her that!"
"why not?" i ask. "i wanna see the good, the bad, and the ugly of tommyinnit."
"one, i don't have a bad or ugly. two, no. you don't want to see this."
"too late. we're watching it," wilbur says, playing his first video entitled "Terraria: Episode 1 (First Video Ever)."
"HELLO THERE, PEOPLE OF THE INTERNET!" tommy's young, squeaky voice booms from the tv.
"turn it down, oh my god," alex says, covering his ears and laughing.
"you sound so little!" i exclaim. i turn to tommy and he flushes red from embarrassment.
"i see why people find you annoying at first," toby remarks. tommy swats his arm.
"when people first find my channel, they tend to find me really annoying. so if you don't hate me by the end of this video, consider subscribing!" george mocks, his british accent thickening.
"don't try to mimic my accent, george. you're british too," tommy says. we watch all of tommy's old terraria video, everyone bursting with laughter at every second.

"thank jesus that's finally over," tommy says, taking the remote from wilbur.
"that was comedy GOLD," clay says through a wheeze.
"i'll show you comedy gold," tommy says, typing "djyeroc123" into the search bar.
"HEY HEY HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" alex says, motioning for tommy to stop. "YOU BETTER BACKSPACE RIGHT NOW."
"no!" tommy says sweetly as he scrolls through the videos from years ago.
after a while of watching each other's embarrassing videos, we realize a lot of time has passed and we're all starving.
"i vote we have a mcdonald's feast," tommy says.
"mcdonald's? really?" alex asks.
"yeah. mcdonald's. suck it up, big q."
"that shit's NASTY. i'm not eating that."
"then get an ice cream."
"the machine will be broken!"
"it's brocken!" karl whines. alex rolls his eyes.
"mcdonald's feast it is, upon channelnutpig's request. if djyeroc123 is THAT opposed to it, he can eat what's in the fridge," wilbur announces. everyone laughs at the use of their old usernames.
we all get into the van and drive to mcdonald's. i suddenly realize when we're about halfway there that this will probably be the last time we're in the van together as a group.
i bite my bottom lip to try to forget about it. as much as i don't want to, i'll have to leave my friends soon.
speaking of friends...
i pull out my phone and type a response to lindsay.
hey, sorry about taking all day to respond. i needed a while to gather my thoughts. i understand that you were upset. i'm sorry you felt that way. i didn't mean to "replace you" or anything like that. i didn't realize i was distancing myself from you, and since you didn't text me either, i guess i thought you were okay. but it's alright, i appreciate your apology and we can move past this :)
i grin in satisfaction after i hit send.
"what's got you smiling?" tommy asks from the seat next to me. "are you that excited for mcdonald's?" i laugh.

"no. just responded to lindsay, that's all," i say. i show tommy the text and he smiles.
"awesome, i'm proud of you for being mature about it." tommy puts his arm around me and rubs my shoulder. i lean my head against his shoulder and smile.
"enough of the pda in my van!" wilbur says, looking at me and tommy through the front view mirror.
"eyes on the road, nosy," i say with a laugh.
"watch your mouth, valerie amelie davis. i can drop you off onto the road right here."
"but you wouldn't."
"wanna bet on that?"
"no i don't. i'll shut up now." wilbur laughs.
"that's what i thought."

after we eat dinner, we all head home. alex rushes out of the car to put something in the microwave and eat (since he REFUSED to eat mcdonald's) while the rest of us walk inside. it's around seven, so we still have a while before anyone starts to get tired. however, clay tells us he's going to start buying tickets for everyone to go back home in a few hours.
my heart sinks again. i really don't want to go back to america.
i shake my head as i try to stop thinking about it for a while. i want to spend as much quality time with everyone as possible before i go home.
after two hours of talking and hanging out with everyone, tommy pulls me outside.
"where are we going?" i ask.
"just out here. sit down," tommy says as he sits down on the concrete driveway.
"this isn't a good idea."
"just lay down, will you?" i laugh and sit next to him.
"see the sunset?" tommy asks, pointing out beyond the horizon. i nod as i admire the beautiful sky, painted with shades of orange, pink, and yellow.
"we've watched both the sunrise and the sunset on this trip," i recall. tommy nods.
"we're cool like that."
"we sure are."
tommy and i spend a while outside, just the two of us, talking and laughing, soaking up our last few moments together.
"you know my offer still stands, right?" tommy asks. i turn to him.
"what offer?"
"you can move in with me. we can get an apartment and live together. you don't have to leave."
"you forgot about the husky," i joke. tommy laughs.
"i could never forget about our husky."
we look at the sky, now scattered with stars, for a moment in silence.
"isn't it funny how this all started?" i ask.
"define 'this,'" tommy says.
"us. this whole situation." tommy raises his eyebrows and smiles.
"love or host." he lets out a laugh.
"i still remember that day."
"i do too. the second i saw you i wanted you to win. i though you were the prettiest girl from the start. then i got to know you. just my luck that you're beautiful and have an amazing personality." i blush.
"i had no idea who you were," i say. "but i saw a picture of you and watched a single stream with my friend and knew i had to audition. you wanna know what my mom said when i told her about you?"
"what'd she say?"
"she said, and i quote, 'i didn't know you were into blondes.'" tommy snorts.
"i like her already."
"she'd love you."
"and my mum will love you."
i sigh. not a sad sigh, but a content sigh. a happy sigh.
"should we go back inside?" tommy asks.
"yeah. i'm freezing," i respond.
"me too. let's go put on the matching hoodies we bought and make everyone jealous." i laugh.
"let's do that."

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
