《to be together | chase davenport/reader》three 〣 say it again

Since the whole Spike endeavor, I've tread more lightly around Chase. I'm probably more alert than I should be. But at the same time, I feel safe around him. He gives me this feeling of peace that I can't really experience anywhere else.

My feelings are a paradox.

I sighed, shaking my head and standing in front of the door. I was here to spend time with Bree. I was trying to get to know her a little more, because y'know, why not?

She was the one who invited me over when we exchanged texts yesterday. So, here I was.

I knocked on the door a couple times, patiently waiting for a response.

The person who opened the door was Chase. Why is it that whenever I come over for someone, the opposite person opens the door? Whatever.

I tensed. Would he be angry with me? Would he kick me out out? Would he...

Would he want to talk about last night?

I tried to keep my breathing normal as he silently stepped aside. I walked into the house, sitting on the couch. The silence that become so familiar to me was extremely tense between the two of us.

Was he going to start a conversation?

"So..." Chase trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck.

I stayed silent, staring at the floor, trying to distract myself. Holy crap, this house even had the nicest floors I've ever seen. That wasn't fair.

Chase cleared his threat and I glanced up at him. We stared at each other, much like last night, but it wasn't contentment that hung in the air this time.

That's when Bree walked into the living the room, and my whole body relaxed. Thank you, Bree. Thank you, Bree. Thank you, Bree.

Chase's eyes flickered between us, before he just walked away from the situation. Bree gave him a look as he left, but he didn't seem to notice. Once he left, Bree plopped down onto the couch next to me.

"Hey Bree." I said, attempting to make some sort of conversation. She grinned at me.

"Hey Y/N." I didn't like the way she said my name. I had known Bree long enough to know when she sounded like that, it couldn't be good.

"So, who do you like?" She asked, smirking. Well, that was... eloquent. I frowned. I couldn't just say Chase, right? No.

Did I even like Chase? How could I answer her question when I didn't even know the answer myself?

Chase. Yes, okay, yes. I did have a crush on him, at least I knew that. Did I want to date him though?

Yes. I wanted more of that peace. I wanted to grow closer to him. But I couldn't do that when he was upset with me. I couldn't do that when he was probably still mad I hadn't kissed him last night.

"Chase." I replied quietly. She probably already knew anyway. It wasn't going to be anything big, right? I would just ask her who she's liked, and then we could move on, and...

"Like, my brother Chase?" I nodded.

"Um, yes? What other Chases are there?"

Bree laughed, "That is honestly the cutest thing. You two were practically made for each other!"

I frowned slightly. Made for each other? That might be a little much, but...

Bree looked so happy, so whatever. I tried to match her smile, and that seemed enough for her.

"How much do you like him?"

Her question hit me like a ton of bricks. Wow, good question Bree. I would love if I maybe... y'know... knew the answer.

"I don't know? Um, dating would be nice."

"Like, you want to be his girlfriend." She was full on grinning at this point. I chuckled, rolling my eyes.

"Um, sure, yes. I want to be his girlfriend." That sentence... Surprisingly, that sentence felt right coming out my mouth. I almost felt tempted to say it again. Chase's girlfriend.

Bree gave me a hug, which I was happy to return. Hugs from Bree were nice. They were a little tight, but you felt like you were cared for. Could I..

Could I consider her a best friend?

Well, she was really one of the only people I hung out with. And she was one of the nicest. And I didn't feel like a was a total mess when I was talking to her.

So, yes, I could consider Bree Davenport my best friend.

After we parted from the huge, I heard footsteps. I turned towards them curiously.

•••

I sighed, standing in the lab. Had I messed everything up? I couldn't, right? I couldn't have messed everything up.

I ran a hand through my hair, trying to sort through my thoughts. She didn't kiss me last night. Why didn't she want to kiss me?

Was she upset I hadn't made the first move? No, she apologized a ton. Why had she apologized?

So, she didn't want to kiss, but why was she simply avoiding me? Was she mad we had even got that close to each other?

Oh, that was it. That had to be it.

"Alright." Leo suddenly spoke up, and I glanced over at him. Adam, Leo, and I had been sitting in relative silence for a... awhile. Everyone was probably bored. Meanwhile, my relationship was falling apart.

"Ideas?" Leo asked, looking at Adam and I. Adam suddenly perked up, easing his hand. I resisted the urge to facepalm as Leo pointed to him.

"Yes, Adam?"

"We should spy on the girls!"

For once, Adam didn't have a completely stupid idea.

I was... honestly curious. I shook my head though, it wasn't right. Just because I wanted to did it make it right.

"Guys, maybe we shouldn't-"

Leo waved me off, "Too late!"

I sighed. Might as well take advantage of the opportunity, right?

I was met with Bree and Y/N sitting on the couch. After a couple seconds, I decided to listen to what they were saying.

"I don't know? Um, dating would be nice." Y/N said, shrugging.

"Like, you want to be his girlfriend." Bree offered, grinning. This made Y/N pause. I could practically see the gears turning in her mind.

"Um, sure, yes. I want to be his girlfriend."

I felt myself smiling. She didn't hate my. I hadn't screwed up our entire relationship. We had gone on a couple of date hangout things before, so...

Would calling her my girlfriend be such a jump?

It took me a second to decide, but I headed up stairs.

I saw the two hugging, so I just stood there quietly until one of the ten noticed me.

Luckily, it was Y/N first.

I saw her blush, and Bree seemed to understand what was going on. She slowly slid off the couch, and walked past me.

I took her spot next to Y/N, and tried to think of how to start this conversation.

"Alright, so I'm not sure if this is a thing that would be okay, however... I wondering if you would be my girlfriend?"

My mind was reeling. Chase had asked to my boyfriend. He asked me to be his girlfriend.

Girlfriend.

Chase's girlfriend.

"I'd love to." I answered softly, a smile gracing my features. He smiled as well.

"Thank you."

"Guess I better switch my Facebook status to 'In a Relationship', hm?" I joked,

Chase raised an eyebrow, "You... still use Facebook?"

That made us both crack up laughing.

•••

"So, he's your boyfriend now?"

"How-"

"One, he walked you to the door. Two, you've been smiling since you got into the car."

"Oh."

"And Y/N?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm happy for you."
