Flashback.
"Mama!" I jump in the middle of the living room. "Mama! I lost my tooth!" I continue jumping, pointing at my gap, with a huge grin.
"That's great, hunny!" She glances at me for a split second, before turning to Killian again, showing him something on her cellphone. She has black hair like me, with blue eyes.
I stare at them, but then feel a thump on my foot. "OWW!" I hiss. I look up and see dad smirking, he steps off my foot, and I grab it while jumping on one leg.
"Stop being such a wussy son." He chuckles.
I let go of my foot, crossing my arms.
"I'm not! Mama, daddy called me a wussy!" I moan and mum chuckles, shaking her head. Dad has blonde hair like Killian and also has blue eyes. He's really muscley too.
"Oh come on son, where's your backbone?" He whacks my back and I let out an oomph.
"Stop it daddy!" I growl and he laughs, ruffling my hair and I wave him off, with a scowl.
He sits on the couch, next to Killian, ruffling his hair.
"How'd you like to take over my business when you're older son?" He smirks down at Killian and his face lights up.
"Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes." His head bobs up and down, vigorously.
Dad chuckles. "Alright then."
"Me too, daddy!" I jump up and down, excitedly.
"Oh, no son." He shakes his head. "This business needs one leader and I must pass it on to my oldest child." He smiles. "You wouldn't like it anyways, son. Trust me. This is Killian's type."
"Oh." I frown. "What can I do?"
He smirks. "For starters why don't you go get me a lighter from the drawer in the kitchen?"
"Okay." I nod.
"Mummy, daddy. I'm going to play cars upstairs now." Killian smiles.
Mum kisses his cheek. "Alright son, be down for lunch soon."
"Okay." He nods, and dad ruffles his hair.
Killian jumps off the couch and walks over to me. "Come upstairs after you get dad the lighter. We can play together." He smiles and I nod, smiling back.
He goes upstairs and I walk to the kitchen. The drawers a little too high for me, so I jump on my tippy-toes.

I pull it open but the oil above gets knocked over and spills all over the floor, making a loud thud and soaking my clothes.
"Oopsies." I put my hand over my mouth.
"Oh, Jack." I turn around to see mum, with her hands on her hips. Dad comes in, his brows shoot upwards when he sees the mess I've made.
"I'm sorry, mummy and daddy." I look down, my cheeks flushed.
"It's okay, son." Dad chuckles. He and mum, both walk over to me, stepping onto the oil.
Mum grabs some cloths and leans down, wiping at the oil, which will probably take half an hour to clean up.
Dad picks out the orange lighter, from the open drawer.
"Go on up son, get your clothes changed." Dad tells me and I nod, heading out the kitchen.
I spot my missing small white ball on the floor and gasp, excitement washing over me, I run to it, pick it up, before heading to the kitchen again.
"Daddy, mummy, look at this!" I shout. Dad turns towards me, taking his lit cigarette out of his mouth.
"What's that son?" He blows out a puff.
"It's my missing ball! I lost it last week and now I've found it! Here, catch!" I throw it at him, but it hits his cigarette, it falls from his hand and his eyes widen, he reaches down to catch it, but it hits the oiled floor and before I know it, the whole kitchens on fire. The only sound is mum and dad screaming.
"Mummy, daddy?!" I shout, my heart thumping in my chest.
"Son, get out of here, take Killian and get out!" Dad shouts, his voice pained as the flames get bigger.
I nod, my lips trembling and I run upstairs. "Killian! We have to get outside! Quick!" I shout, he stops playing with his cars, and follows me down.
I see the fire, bigger and the whole doors burnt down, the fire creeping out. Killians eyes widen and he grabs my hand.
"Quick!" Killian shouts, he flings the door open and we get out.
We spot a lady by the pavement and run to her. "There's a fire in my home and-and mummy and daddy are in there!" I shout, tears streaming down.

Present
That day both mum and dad were found dead, all black and burnt. of course me and Killian couldn't see, but we were taken away and sent to live with my uncle-dads brother, John and his wife. Killian got over our parents death much quicker, while I stayed in my room, crying constantly. It wasn't till a year when I finally accepted it and moved on.
Me and Killian drifted away, he wasn't mad at me, but more disappointed.
By the time he was eleven, John would take him out before I was awake and bring him back, way after I was asleep, so I hardly saw him. John's wife, Katie was the one who really took care of me.
It went like that for years, until one day when I was fourteen and Killian was sixteen, he came to me and asked if I wanted to work with him.
At first I was eager but once he told me what it involved, I refused straight away. No way in hell would I work in an illegal business, I told him. I was shocked dad would actually be involved in something like that.
After I refused, I barely saw him again, a month later he moved out. John had helped pay for whatever he went to stay at.
So that was the last time I actually saw him, until today.
John and Katie continued to take care of me. When the summer holidays came- the same year. John took me over to the Brooks' family. Where I met Heidi.
She seemed nice after an hour of hanging out with her, I had grown a little crush. I had no idea about Layla then, until after a few weeks, I bumped into her. Her reaction took me off guard, she looked as though I'd hit her.
As soon as I gazed into her beautiful grey eyes, I knew there was something wrong. They looked so scared and broken.
Just when I was about to speak with her, her mum had yelled for her... in a not so nice way.
She quickly left and so I went to see Heidi. I tried asking her about Layla but she kept waving her off.
I could hear shouts and thumps downstairs..
A while later Heidi said she needed something so we went down, I saw Layla lying on the ground, clutching her head, a fistful of her hair was in Mr brooks' hands and I felt sick.
I couldn't believe he was that abusive. He always seemed so nice.
Her mum was tearing up to what looked like her beautiful art drawings. I so wanted to help her, but that would make all of them grow suspicious of me, thinking me and Layla have been secretly meeting up. I mean they never introduced us, did they?
So I stayed quiet. Then what Heidi did, had me disgusted, deliberately tripping over Layla and acting upset. Her father may not of saw it but I did. It earned Layla a big slap. I caught Heidi watching me, suspiciously. I think she could tell I felt bad for Layla. I decided to make the tension less between us, so I helped Heidi, slightly, and asked if she was okay. She gave me a sly look and called her a bitch. I just stayed quiet, but she wouldn't have that and repeated it, much louder. So I agreed. I just didn't want trouble for neither me and Layla and hoped she'd understand.
I would've honestly helped her, but I was sure she'd get hurt more for that.
After that day, I refused to go to their house again, spent most of my time going to the gym. Soon the holiday flew by, I started to go to a new school, turns out Heidi went there too. She approached me but I told her nicely, to stay away from me.
'
Killian's laugh cuts me out of my thoughts, I frown, lifting my gaze up at him. He stares back at me, smirking.
"Don't beat yourself up about it, bro. I get it. Mistakes happen." He shrugs. "Just like your relationship with Layla."
"Be quiet." I growl, glaring at him. He chuckles, placing the gun back into the waistband of his jeans and trudges to the door.
"Just do what's right, Jack. I don't want to kill my own brother, but I will if I have to." And with that he walks out, slamming the door shut.
