I fill in my entry form and hand it to the office lady, she takes it and after a few moments, she hands me my timetable, which is pretty much the same as it was before.

"Thank you." I walk back towards Kaleb and Donald. "Hey I got the..." I trail off, as I listen to their conversation.

"What texts?" Donald asks, confused.

"You were texting me yesterday remember?" Kaleb asks, awkwardly.

"No I-" he cuts off short, before slowly moving his head to look at me.

"Layla..." He glares at me.

"What?" I ask, feigning confusion.

"What happened?"

"You did this didn't you?"

"Did what?"

He glares at me, and I finally burst out laughing, shaking my head.

"Wait...so it wasn't you who was sending me flirty texts?" Kaleb asks cautiously. "Cuz–"

"No it wasn't me." Donald cuts him off, clearly embarrassed.

Kaleb lets out a breath. "Thank God." He mutters and Donald gives him a hard look.

Kaleb puts his arms up in surrender. "You should of seen the texts she was sending me.." he defends, pointing his thumb at me, and I bite back a smirk.

When Donald looks at me I quickly look away.

I watch him fish his phone out from his pocket and my eyes widen slightly.

His lips move in sync as he reads the texts and his eyes widen, his brows furrowed as he reads certain parts.

I slowly turn around, ready to make a run for it. I crane my neck to look at him once more to see him glaring right at me.

I got to get to class." I say, before I quickly walk away, when I'm a good mile away I let out a breath when suddenly I bash into someone. Hard. Causing me to fall onto the ground.

"Watch where you're going bitch." I hear a familiar voice.

I look up and roll my eyes, it's Heidi's best friend, Thalia.

I lift myself off the ground and face her. She has deep red hair, with green eyes. Her face is caked with makeup and she's wearing tight shorts, with a white crop top.

"Sorry." I shrug, turning around.

"Wait." She calls and I stop, not turning around.

"Yeah?"

"I heard you got disowned."

Oh for fucks sake.

I can't see her face, but a smirk is evident in her tone.

"Okay." I say bluntly, as I begin to walk again.

"It must be hard." She carries on, her voice following me, I roll my eyes.

The hallway begins to quieten down, as people begin to stick their nose in this one sided conversation.

I continue to walk, completely ignoring her.

Fricking attention seeker.

"–Knowing your own family doesn't want–"

Rolling my eyes, I turn around which caught her off guard and she stumbled backwards a bit.

"Okay." I say flatly. "You done?"

She smirks. "You–"

"Thalia." A deep voice comes from behind us.

Her eyes flicker upwards, behind me, and her ugly smirk turns into a genuine smile.

Rolling my eyes, I turn around, bumping into....is that...

Jack?

"Layla?" His blue eyes meet mine, surprise etching his features.

He's grown taller from the last time I saw him, over six feet tall, much more muscular, which are shown from the thin black shirt he's wearing, along with a pair of navy jeans.

He gives me a smile, as he takes a step towards me.

"This is Heidi's bitch of a sister." Thalia counters, staring up at him in confusion. "You know her?"

I take steps back, giving him a glare before turning around.

"Wait!" he calls out but I ignore him and walk away.

I dislike him very much.

17th of October.

My thirteenth birthday.

I walk out of my bedroom, and head downstairs.

I bump into someone and wince.

"It was an accident, I'm sorry!" I quickly say, covering my face.

I get no response, and slowly peel my hands away from my face.

I look up at the tall frame and my eyes meet blue ones, he looks Heidi's age, with black hair.

His eyebrows are furrowed as he stares at me. "It's fine." His frown turns into a smile.

"I'm Jack."

"Oh. hi." I blush. "I'm Lay-"

"LAYLA, GET DOWN HERE NOW!" I hear mums voice.

My face pales, and I force on a smile. "Bye."

I slowly walk down the stairs again, and enter the living room where my mum and dad are.

"Yeah?"

"What is this?" Mum snarls at me, pointing to my art drawings.

"They're my drawings I did for my art cla-"

She suddenly tears one of my drawing and I gasp.

"Please don't." I growl, angrily.

She smirks, as she picks up another.

"Art?" She questions coldly. "What are you? A kid? Why don't you make something out of your life instead of this shit." She rips it in half.

"And if it really meant something to you it wouldn't be lying over here like trash." She tears it to pieces.

"I must've forgot." I say quickly, staring as she rips my drawing into shreds.

She scoffs, as she picks up another.

"Mum it's my birthday, I know I normally be rude, but I want to be different-"

"Oh yes..." She cuts me off, her face contorting disgust.

"I forgot. The day I hate the most." She shakes her head.

"All the more reasons to tear this shit apart. Happy birthday." She rips up another piece. And I stare, emotionlessly.

I look at dad, to see him staring right at me. "Dad. What happened? What really happened? It can't have been me just failing maths. That's absurd and-"

"You ask this every year." He shakes his head. "Let me explain again. You know that gut feeling you have? When you see someone and you instantly don't like them?" He says slowly as if he's talking to a toddler.

"But I'm your daughter-"

"Don't talk over me, please." He says calmly.

"I don't know what it was but. After the conversation me and your mother had about you." He smirks. "We both felt the same. You ruined our plans. You're as good as a piece of shit. Plus your attitude was just sickening. You had bad grades- still do–"

"I-I Didn't–"

"I SAID DON'T TALK OVER ME!" He booms, and I jump.

I fist my hands, clenching my jaw.

"Compare you to Heidi–"

"I didn't ask for a fucking comparison." I burst out angrily.

He comes closer to me, and slams my cheek with the back of his hand. The force had me falling on the ground.

He sneers at me, and I glare back. Rubbing my extremely sore cheek.

I tear my gaze off him as I turn my attention to my mother.

She's sat on the couch, scattered with pieces of my work. As she tears piece after piece.

"Mum–"

I hear the door open, and I crane my neck slightly. Heidi enters along with Jack who gives me a confused look.

"Daddy!" She runs to dad, but trips over my leg, falling on the ground.

"Ow." She cradles her elbow, glaring at me as fresh tears gleam her eyes.

"You bitch." Dad yells, he fists his hand to my hair and pulls, ripping out a handful. I wince, closing my eyes tightly. I wait for the pain to subdue slightly and peel my eyes open.

He's still staring at me with a smirk and my eyes fall to his fist containing several of my strands.

He walks over to Heidi, hugging her and I look away.

"Are you alright?" I hear Jack say behind me and I nod. I turn to him only to see him talking to Heidi.

I flush with embarrassment, glad no-one saw me.

"Layla, clean up this mess." mum orders. I gaze at my work that's scattered in pieces and look at her just to see her ripping up the remaining of my last work.

My heart begins to ache, and I take a deep breath, as my lips begin to tremble.

"I don't think you should feed her today daddy. She hurt me." I hear Heidi say.

From the corner of my eyes I see dad nod, smiling at her.

I stare at his fist, which still has my hair and watch as he slowly let's go.

The strands falling onto the ground.

I feel a lump form in my throat and I know I'm finally going to break down.

I stand up slightly and walk towards the door.

"She is such a bitch." I hear Heidi's voice.

"Yeah.." Jack's deep voice counters, and the first tear rolls down my cheek.
