My heart fluttered, my smile grew.

"That was corny," I exclaimed but it was the cutest thing ever to come from his mouth.

"I know," he smiled while he picked the imaginary lint of his trouser leg.

"But incredibly cute," I pinched his cheeks. He shook his head to escape the pinch of my fingers, we laughed in unison.

After a few minutes Kyle jumped off of the tailgate. It was getting darker now, I hated the dark but it didn't faze me one bit, not here.

"Where are you going?" I asked while he finally stepped foot on to the floor.

"I'll be two seconds," he held up his finger to indicate. I nodded my head before laying back down.

I heard rustling, but nothing would give it away. Suddenly Kyle reappeared with something behind his back. My curiosity peeked.

"What have you got?" I asked, now intrigued.

"Well, I have beer," he smiled sheepishly, yet the smirk was also evident.

"I can't drink beer!" I gasped. I had never drank beer outside of the house. It sounded stupid and cowardly, but it was true.

"You can, and you will," his smile grew as the pros and cons created havoc through my mind.

There were basically no cons to this situation, I mean, my mother wasn't here, Tammy wasn't here, neither was my father. It was only Kyle and I, nothing could happen, I should be rebellious, adventurous, and after all, it was only a few beers. It was nothing.

"Fine," I sighed in defeat. Kyle beamed with excitement. He cracked open a can before passing it to me. He sat back on the tailgate, closer to my body this time.

I could feel his body heat, and his knee grazed mine. My body heated up despite the wind, and my heart beated with a furious speed.

"I won't let anything happen to you," he said as he looked to the sky, as if he was deep in thought.

"I know," and I did. He saved my life, he wouldn't do that to ruin it after.

I looked towards him, his face relaxed, content. Infact, he looked more boyish, more content than he ever had before. It was as if his worries had gone, even today. He still gazed to the sky as his head leaned back. He was beautiful, even now.

A dark strand of hair had swept across his eye, before he could move it I swept it away from his face. He turned to me, smiling and twinkling with happiness.

"Thankyou," he whispered, almost hoarse. I smiled in reply. I then turned to look up at the sky, wondering if there's someone up there looking down on us, maybe someone who was close to Kyle.

I took a couple of gulps from my beer, flinching at the almost bitter taste, but also reveling in it.

The atmosphere was calm, the air blew silence, nothing more, nothing less.

"Do you think life knocks you down because you deserve it?" Kyle suddenly asked. I looked to him with confusion.

"What do you mean?" He sat up straighter.

"Do you think bad things happen to people because they deserve it? or do you think bad people get a shot at having something amazing happening to them?"

"I think it depends on what the person did," I shrugged. He bit his lip in almost nervousness.

"What if it was something bad?" He muttered.

"If someone does something really bad I guess they don't really deserve to have the best things in life," I said in honesty. For what my mother did I hoped she never got all of the luck. It was sad, but it was true.

Kyle's eyes deflated, almost as if he was counting on me to reassure him. It had confused me, but I didn't want to push it. I guess I had to.

"What's the matter?" I whispered.

"Nothing," he tried to reassure me, but I could see right through him.

"Don't bullshit me," the beer was getting to me almost, I had nearly finished the can. I was getting more and more confident as the minutes went by.

"Nothing," he tried to persuade. I shook my head.

"Kyle, I'm not buying it," I said. "Tell me, what's the matter?" I asked again. Kyle sighed shakily.

"It's none of your buisness," he snapped. My eyes widened in shock for a few seconds.

"Kyle-"

"No! Just shut up, Cali!" He almost yelled. The anger started to boil inside of me. I got up and threw the blankets back down on to the tailgate. I jumped off of it in anger.

Kyle grabbed my arm, and de ja vu was extremely strong now.

"I'm sorry," he breathed. "I'm sorry for shouting at you, I'm just desperate here," he whispered. I pulled my arm out of his grasp.

"About what?" I asked angrily. "What's so bad that you can't even tell me?" I snapped. He sighed in anger, his eyes turning a blaze.

"I killed my bestfriend, Cali, for fuck sake I killed my bestfriend," he bit out angrily as his eyes began to well up. I took a few steps back, I was shocked, my heart started beating.

"W-what do you mean?" I stuttered.

"My bestfriend and I were in the car and I was driving and it was my fault why we crashed, it was all my fault, I killed him, I survived and I killed him," he let out desperately, almost as if he was panicking himself.

He thought it was all his fault, this had been with him, haunting him, and he kept it all to his self. With a sudden feeling of admiration for this boy, I jumped into his unawaiting arms.

I wiped the tear that had made it's way down his cheek. It didn't bother me that he was crying. He didn't have to be strong all of the time.

"It wasn't your fault," I whispered. "It wasn't your fault, Kyle,"

"It was," he wrapped his arms around my waist as he laid his head on my shoulder. I played with his silky hair.

"It wasn't. You listen to me and you listen good, Kyle, you did not kill your bestfriend, it was not your fault, you're not a bad person, you're not I promise," I let out desperately, hoping he would believe me.

He needed me to reassure him.

"I can't help it, I miss him, we were like brothers," he sniffed.

"I know," I whispered. "But you can't think like this, it isn't healthy. You need to let him go, you need to let the past go, otherwise you'll live with it forever,"

"I know, but-"

"No buts, Kyle, no what ifs, it wasn't your fault," I let out angrily, trying to get through to him.

He didn't say a word in reply, he just kept his face in the crook of my neck. I welcomed his warm breath, knowing he was still here, knowing I was giving him comfort.

"If you weren't so stubborn I wouldn't have told you," he muttered. I laughed.

"I'm glad you told me," I whispered. "You needed someone to help you,"

"I don't need help,"

"No, you don't need help, you need me," I stated. His face moved from the crook of my neck as his eyes suddenly fixed onto mine.

His piercing eyes always seemed to captivate me, it was always the same. From the first day I met him, they had always made an effect.

His tear strained face broke my heart, I would have done anything to never see it again. I liked happy Kyle, sarcastic Kyle, even dick Kyle. Anything was better than this.

His eyes flickered to my lips, my eyes flickered to his shiny ones, the tears creating that look.

Suddenly, his face came forward slowly, I was positive he was going to kiss me. I let out a shaky breath, honestly hoping that he would. My heart was fluttering, jumping, beating, pounding. I wanted this. I wanted his lips on mine.

"Kiss me," I whispered, trying to cause the friction I needed, and quick.

Just as his lips were about to hit mine, headlights flashed onto our bodies. Our bodies jumped away from eachother, almost in shock of what was about to happen. I didn't regret it, I wanted it to happen, I wasn't so sure about Kyle.

A car pulled up onto the grass, and here it seemed like a cliche movie, but here was a place I would never forget.
