《Let's fall in love (Story By PINKI)》Chapter 13

Over the next few days, their routine stayed the same. Arnav would do her bandages, help her change her clothes till she was able to do it herself. He had been working from home since the incident and would go into the office if absolutely needed. Most of the time he did conference calls from home and had staff come to their place to get any signatures or other stuff, if needed.

He would help Khushi cook meals, clean and do the laundry. He kept her within his sight just to make sure she was ok. She had woken up a few times in the middle of the night frightened and he would wake up the instant he would feel her twitch. As he sat on the couch with his laptop, reviewing an upcoming endorsement, he noticed Khushi come and slump beside him on the couch.

"Are you going to be awhile?" she asked while turning the TV on and lowering the volume.

"Ya maybe an hour or so... do you need something?" he asked knowing she wouldn't say it right away so he tried searching her eyes to see if she needed something.

"Nope... wanna watch a movie?" she asked out of the blue and he laughed.

"What's so funny... I was just asking Mr.Partypooper! Hmph!". As she got up to walk away, she felt him take hold of her hand and pull her back and seat her gently on the couch.

"I wasn't laughing at you... your question was just a little random but yes we can... give me an hour hmmm?". She smiled brightly. To make the hour go by, she walked into the kitchen to make them dinner till he was going to finish his work. As she chopped the vegetables, her mind went over the past couple of days and she realized there were quite a few things she had learnt about her husband.

For beginners, he was diabetic... DIABETIC... she almost choked on her own tea when he told her one morning after he had sipped the coffee she had prepared for him, which of course had sugar in it, infact loads of it. That was the first day she had actually made something for him. What a disaster, she'd thought while spilling the coffee away and brewing up some more. What were the chances of that happening? She had always loved sugar. From cookies to icecream to chocolate to donuts, anything with sugar was awesome including her tea which had a couple of teaspoons in a cup. Her heart sank knowing that there weren't many things she could bake for him like she used to for Karan.

Second, she learnt that her husband loved green tea and he liked it black. Her first reaction to that was Eww! No wonder most of the time he was bitter, she thought laughingly. He had gone into explaining to her about how green tea had antioxidants that other foods didn't contain but she had tuned him out during that discussion.

Third thing she realized was that he would give up anything for Anjali Di in a heartbeat. The way he talked about her, she knew that he worshipped his sister. He explained to her how she was diagnosed with polio at a young age and her marriage had broken once before when the guys side, out of nowhere, told them they didn't want a limping girl around the house despite knowing about her condition beforehand. Then she had met her husband Shyam. It was love at first sight for both of them as he had helped her when she tripped on the stairs at the mandir. Shyam didn't have a family of his own and was raised by his uncle who had passed away last year and therefore, Shyam and Anjali had decided to move back with them. Shyam was a criminal lawyer by profession and was very well known for his work. As Anjali owned quite a bit of shares in AR and they had enough money to last them a few lifetimes, Shyam provided services for people with lower incomes, which was very generous of him, she thought.

Fourth, her husband was addicted to chapstick. Over the past few days she had found atleast found six chapsticks around their room and about six to seven more in his pants. She wasn't sure if she wanted to check anymore and she had told him that if any of his chapsticks got ruined when she did laundry or something, she wasn't to blame.

As she stirred the pasta into the sauce, her thoughts drifted back to the past week. It had only been four days since that incident and Arnav had dropped everything for her and had stayed by her side. Whenever she would flinch, he would jerk himself. The regret was constantly in his eyes and she didn't know how to make things better as most of the time an awkward silence would engulf them. Most of the times because of the awkward positions they were put in such as when he had to either help her put her clothes on, change her bandages, fold her laundry. The physical attraction was as thick as smoke between them but they both didn't react on it and she was glad with the things were progressing between them. She didn't compare him to Karan anymore. In fact, it had only been a week since her perfectly planned world had crashed but it felt like a long time to her and she realized she was over it. She wasn't sure if it was such a good thing as she realized it had only taken her a week to get over a two year relationship. Maybe it was because she had someone else in life? Maybe if she had been alone, it would have been harder? She wasnt sure. All she knew is that Karan was her past and if someday she was to face him, she would be civil with him as she was sure she would end up seeing him since he was in the same city and Arnav and Karan had common friends whose marriages were going to come up.

For now, all she knew was that she enjoyed her husband's company. Even though he didn't talk much, his presence was enough for her. His eyes spoke volumes and his gestures made her feel appreciated. He had openly welcomed her in his life and she knew she had to forget everything and do the same.

Once the food was done, she put their plates out and was about to move the pot from the stove when she felt him behind her, his arms outstretched along hers as he held onto the handles of the pot. The warmth from his body radiated into hers and she instantly froze.

"I've told you so many times Khushi not to pick anything heavy up till your back is fine... agar kuchh ho jaata? What if you pulled something in your back?" He asked as he moved the pot from the stove onto the little mat she had placed on the counter top. Her hands held onto the counter top infront of her as his hands put the pot in place and rested on the side of her arms with her back still against him.

"You didn't answer me Khushi" he probed again and she looked over her shoulder at him to see the annoyed look on his face. "Maine kitni baar kaha hai ki call me if you need help".

"Sorry... I just didn't realize... I just ... "and before she could finish, he turned her around from her shoulders and kept his hands there.

He stood there with his eyebrows raised waiting for her to say something more, but she didn't. Instead she seemed to be searching for something in his eyes.

"Kya?" he asked and she blinked to come out of her dreamland. Mumbling a nothing she tried to move away from him when he placed both his hands on the counter behind her and trapped her there. As if in a trace, he took a step closer, and she took a step back and when he took another step towards her, she stepped back and her back hit the countertop.

"Ouch!" was all she could muster as the pain started in her back and she could feel it travelling down her legs to her toes. All of a sudden her legs felt like jelly from the pain and before her knees could give away, he wrapped one arm around her shoulder blades and the bother one under her butt to steady her, avoiding her injured area.

The next second, she felt her legs in the air as he lifted her and walked her to the couches. He slowly placed her down on the seat while he looked around her to see if her back was ok or if the wound opened up but thankfully the bandage was still white.

"I am sooo sorry, oh god you have no idea how sorry..." and before he could go on his routinely apologizing rant that he seemed to go off on about four times a day, she placed her finger on his lips and shook her head in a no.

"Can you stop apologizing please? It wasn't your fault. I backed into the counter, you didn't push me into it" she replied trying to smile at him which took a lot of effort with the constant pounding that she was having in her back. Deciding to take a break as her back was sore from all the standing while cooking and now this, she laid stomach down on the couch and closed her eyes for a few seconds. When she opened them, Arnav was still in the same position on his knees beside her. The look in his eyes melted her heart and she slowly raised her hand and moved the small piece of hair that lay lazily on his forehead. She closed her eyes again as fatigue took over her but she kept trying to keep them open.

"Let's eat" she whispered after a few minutes remembering that the food was getting cold but he placed his hand on her upper back to stop her from standing up.

"Take a nap Khushi, we can eat later..." and he slowly rubbed her scalp, running his fingers through her hair till her breathing deepened and she fell asleep. Not being able to resist, he leaned towards her and placed a gentle kiss on the side of her forehead and went back to his laptop to finish up whatever he had left.

She woke up to the sound of dishes being placed close to her and as she opened her eyes, Arnav had warmed up all the food and brought it over to the centre table. As she looked up at him, he gave her a warm smile and helped her get up and handed her a plate and sat down beside her grabbing his own plate of food and turned the TV on to watch their pending movie.

Two hours later, he looked over at her and found her fast asleep again. Turning the TV off, he slowly picked her up trying to avoid touching her wound and walked up the stairs to put her in bed. As he laid her down and sat on the bed with his laptop, his thoughts wandered off. He was supposed to meet Karan tomorrow and he wasn't sure if this was something he should discuss with Khushi. So far all he knew was that Karan was going back to work at the hospital tomorrow and nobody had informed him of his and Khushi's wedding. It was decided by his family and friends that it was better that Arnav himself broke the news to Karan. Nobody knew why he had disappeared and he refused to answer the question. He had only been communicating over the phone with everyone and Arnav was the first person he had agreed to meet. Nobody knew where he was staying or what was going on and it made Arnav nervous.... Something is off... he realized and before he could think anymore, his phone vibrated and it was a message from Karan.

Sorry dude, can't meet tomorrow. Maybe next week?

He replied back with a sure and put his phone away. Maybe I'll tell Khushi after I see him.. he decided. She already wasn't feeling well and he didn't want to put her through any more pain. As his mind kept trying to come up with reasons on what could have happened, he fell asleep.

One week later, Khushi was feeling better and deciding that it was about time Arnav went back to the office, she got up in the morning and got ready. As he woke up, he found her all dressed up and giving him a bright smile she told him that they were gonna go back to work. When he refused, she pouted, threw a hissy fit, and finally cried when he wouldn't listen. Knowing she wasn't going to give up, he gave in and decided that they will go in for half a day and if she was feeling any sort of discomfort, they would come back home immediately. She jumped like a child and gave him a big hug and skipped out of their room leaving a shocked Arnav behind....

Finally she felt good after she put herself to use. She worked on files, rearranged things, upgraded softwares and when she looked over at the time, she realized it was almost lunchtime. She looked over at Arnav who was typing away on his laptop and since he wasn't on his phone, she walked into his office.

"Do you want lunch?" and when he looked over at her, she smiled brightly.

"Um do you want me to order something for you?" he asked looking at her a little unsurely as he realized she probably didn't even know where anything was since she was new to the city.

"Nope! I was gonna go grab food... what do you want?"

As he looked over at her, he smiled. She was wearing a floral white skirt with a black top and ballerina flats which made her look much younger than she already was. Her hair was tied in a side ponytail and he had this sudden urge to just get up and plant a wet kiss on her cheek but he decided to keep his raging hormones in check.

"I know there is a salad place across the street beside the hospital. Do you want a sandwich from there?" she asked when he didn't respond to what he wanted. Smiling at her, he told her to grab anything she liked and smiling brightly back at him, she skipped away. She was in an unusual chirpy mood and the warm weather outside just made it even better.

As she crossed the street and was about to walk into the restaurant, she looked back and noticed a lady with four children trying to cross the street. She was about to walk away when she noticed a car coming too fast and as she yelled at the lady to look back at her son who was the trailing behind her, the little boy ran trying to save himself from the car but fell hard on his knees and hands scraping himself. She ran out and helped the little boy get up and noticing that the boy was bleeding from his hands, knees and his forehead, she helped the little boy walk over to the hospital as she couldn't pick him up because of the faint pain in her back.

Sitting in the emergency room, she waited for a doctor to come check the little boy when her phone rang and she walked away from the family to attend Arnav's call.

"Are you ok? It's been like over 20 minutes!" a frantic Arnav asked her and she explained to him about the incident. Just as he was about to ask her where she was, she heard the little boys name being called, she told Arnav she was at the City hospital and before he could tell her to get out of there, she had hung up on him and walked back to the family. As he tried calling her again, she didn't answer and he sat with a sinking feeling in his stomach. The next minute, he closed his laptop and left the building to go after her. Rushing out of his office, he frantically pushed on the elevator buttons and when the elevator didn't come, he ran down the stairs only to bump into one of his employees who held him up for a few minutes but felt like eternity for him....Shit, Shit.. Double Shit! He swore as he ran across the main floor out onto the street.....

As the little boy was taken in by the nurses and the mother of the child called her husband, Khushi said goodbye to the family and was about to walk out of the hospital when a voice too familiar stopped her in her tracks.

"Khushi?"
