Ruby sat in front of Crane.

The doctor was tied in a straightjacket, and lying on a gurney. Normally, she would have been afraid in a situation like this. But the need to save Vale from whatever Crane was planning pushed bravery to confront him.

"What was the plan, Crane?" she questioned. "How were you gonna get your toxin into the air?"

"Scarecrow . . . Scarecrow . . ."

He had been mumbling that word to himself ever since she had found him, and he refused to answer anything she asked. Still, she pressed on.

"Who were you working for, Crane?!"

Finally, Crane snapped out of his trance, making eye contact with Ruby. He smiled. "Oh, it's too late."

"You can't stop it now . . ."
