《Winter Wonderland》The Schemer of the Scalding Sands: part 7

Y/n and Yuuna's eyes widden in shock after hearing Jamil's quick answer.
Grim obvious wasn't happy about it. "Seriously? Why even ask for advice if you're gonna immediately reject it?!"
'That's true...'
'ara...'
"What's your issue with our suggestion, anyway?" Grim asked in a snappy tone.
"The Viper family has assisted the Asim family for generations. How could I betray our history like that? It would be beyond the pale" Jamil responded. "Not to mention the lecture I would get from my parents...I'm sorry, but it just wouldn't be right"
"Oya? You just can't win no matter what, can you?" Y/n said, poking Jamil's bare shoulder.
"I guess you make a good point..." Yuuna muttered.
"It is what it is" Jamil sighed.
"Okey, I get why you can't challenge Kalim to a duel. But if the housewarden keeps actin' like this, he's gonna make life totally miserable for everybody in the dorm" Grim said. "Riddle was bad enough, but this hot and cold thing Kalim's doin' is making it way worse"
'Who is Riddle? What did he do?'
'You can ask that Anemo scum about that'
'oh...ok...'
"Yeah. He's not acting like a housewarden at all!" Kareem yelled.
"He's not even meeting the job requirements. This goes against our Scarabian spirit!" Omar added.
"What do you mean, 'Scarabian spirit'?" Yuuna asked.
"A sense of keen mindfulness. A quality attributed to the Sorcerer of the Sands" Y/n said to Yuuna. "And to be housewarden of one of Night Raven College's seven, now eight dorms, you must be the most befitting of the dorm's spirit"
"Anything less, and you are unqualified to be housewarden" Jamil added. "Dueling is essentially an easy way to determine this. The Seven dorms each have their own different spirits and their own ways of determining who befits. I heard Amaryllis is the same as well, but a bit stricter"
"Fufu, indeed. For example, a tradition in Pomefiore states that the housewarden is whoever can make the most potent poison. For Amaryllis, when we get more students, one must be the most pure and noble out of all the students. I'm having a celestial phoenix decide who fits" Y/n explained.
"Man...that does sound strict..." Yuuna chuckled.
"Gah, that's nightmare fuel!" Grim hissed. "So how'd Kalim pet picked to be the head honcho of Scarabia?"
"He was nominated by the previous housewarden. Through his prior work and virtues, he cultivated a reputation as the most befitting in the dorm" Jamil said. "I'll never forget how proud I was at his nomination"
"But he wouldn't have half that record if you hadn't been helping him!" Kareem noted. "Everybody in the dorm knows it"
"Why didn't the last housewarden choose you instead?!" Omar asked.
"Don't blame him. For a relative of the Asim family to choose me over the main house's heir would be...ah!" Jamil froze, realizing what he just said.

Y/n perked an eyebrow. "Again...?"
"Seriously?" Grim asked. "AGAIN with this Asim family stuff?"
"So that's what was going on. I had no idea" Kareem started off. "That sounds like blatant nepotism!"
"Man, the Asim family plays way too dirty!" Omar gritted his teeth.
"Please, I implore you. Forget what you just heard" Jamil pleaded.
Y/n shook her head a bit in disappointment.
a dark voice spoke in Jamil's head. 'shut up!' he ordered.
"Night Raven College is known as a big-name university precisely because it's a meritocracy" Kareem said. "Getting special privileges because of your parents is something that shouldn't fly here! Even Y/n doesn't get special privileges, and she's the daughter of the famous Ice Queen!"
"He's right, Vice Housewarden." Salman agreed. "We won't stand for this!"
"Soical status and wealth aren't supposed to matter here on campus" Omar reminded. "We're all supposed to be equals!"
"But, ah..." Jamil couldn't find the right words to say. Or, it may have been seen.
The Amaryllis trio had decided to just let the three students vent out their frustrations to Jamil with intervening.
"Scarabia is a dorm built around the Sorcerer of the Sands' spirit of mindfulness," another student said. "I've always felt that someone thoughtful like Jamil deserves the seat of the house leader way more than Kalim"
"Slow down" Jamil interuppted. "I'm not special or superior to anyone else. My grades are dead average. On a scale of one to ten, mine are fives across the board. I'm not fit to be the housewarden"
"Magical talent isn't what decides who befits the dorm's spirit" the fourth student argued.
"What do you guys think? Who's the most suitable housewarden out of everyone here?" asked Salman.
"Oh, it's Jamil, no question!" Kareem announced.
"Yeah. Jamil is way more fit to be Scarabia housewarden than Kalim!" Omar shouted.
"We can't just accept an incompetent housewarden because he was born into a rich family!" Kareem argued.
"That's right. Scarabia's got no use for a leader who can't lead! Omar yelled.
"Scarabia won't suffer an incompetent housewarden!"
"What are all you doing, gathered together at this hour?" Kalim asked, standing by the entrance of the lounge.
Everyone, except for Y/n, froze when they heard Kalim's voice "!!"
"Gah!" Grim yelped. "Busted!"
"K-Kalim..." Jamil and Y/n said in unison. But one looked more nervous than the other.
"Morning training clearly wasn't enough for you, if you still have energy to burn" Kalim said, crossing his arms over his chest. "Jamil! Y/n! Take the students out to the courtyard this instant" he ordered.
"Since when am I being ordered around...?" Y/n grumbled.
"The courtyard, sir?" asked Jamil.
"We'll do magic training until their bodies give out under Y/n training" Kalim announced.

"That's ridiculous!" Kareem paled a bit as Y/n just let out a sigh.
"I dunno about you, but I'm already way past my limit!" Grim whimpered, hiding behind Yuuna's legs.
"Do I need to repeat myself? Hurry up!" Kalim demands.
"...Fine" Y/n and Jamil sighed in defeat.
"Come on, everyone. Out" Jamil said to the Scarabia students and Yuuna and Grim.
"Uuugh..." Grim groaned. "I'm wiped out. I can't walk another step..." he collapsed on the bed.
"I don't think the mortal students can take much more" Y/n admitted.
"W-we need to get out of here" Yuuna stated.
"I'm at my own limit too, y'know!" Grim shouted, putting his paws on his hips. "I don't wanna spend another second in this prison. I'm pooped and ready to pass out, but I've still got my trusty spoon. I'm gonna finish diggin' that hole tonight!" he said with determination.
Grim kept digging and digging until it was finally big enough to escape through. "Whoa! Guys! Hey, Y/n, Yuuna!" Grim called out. "Look. The whole finally reaches the other side of the door! I couldn't get it too big, but hey. They say as long as you can get your head through a hole, the rest follows easy enough"
"Don't you mean getting the shoulders through?" Yuuna questioned.
Y/n chuckled a bit. "That's some animal logic right there. Here, I'll make it slippery enough for us to slip through" she said, using her magic to form ice around the hole to lubricate it.
"I'll go through first and pull you through the second. Now, let's get this show on the road!" Grim said.
"Phew...We finally made it out of that stupid room" Grim breathed out a sigh of relief. Yuuna stood up after Y/n helped her slip through.
"I suddenly understand how pasta must feel going through a pasta maker..." Yuuna hissed as Y/n let out a quiet chuckle.
"Okay, let's get back to Amaryllis dorm while we can" Y/n said. "Just be really quite an-"
*GRROOOWL*
Grim's stomach let out a loud growl that even shook the halls.
"Mrow?! Ah, crud!" Grim panicked. "I was diggin' so hard there, it made me hungry..."
"Grim..." Y/n smiled in a threatening way as Yuuna sweatdropped.
"What was that earth-shaking noise just now?!" Kareem asked, looking towards his friend, Omar.
"It came from the Amaryllis students' room!" Omar realized.
"Whuh-oh. We're in trouble now!" Grim panicked.
The two boys eyes widden in panic as they immediately dashed towards the vacant room.
"What do you think you're doing there?!" Kareem shouted, demanding at answer.
"Myah, they found us!" shrieked Grim.
"Motherfucker-" Y/n cursed Grim's stomach.
"What are you doing outside?!" Omar asked. "I know we locked the door tight!"
"Ah! There's a hole in the floor!" Kareem said, noticing the hole. "You really don't know when to give up, do you?"
Y/n, Yuuna, and Grim then ran away.
"We've got runners!" Omar shouted. "After them!"
The students blew a whistle to signal the escaping trio.
"If they catch us, it's back to the life of a prisoner!" Grim warned.
"Just keep focusing on running!" Y/n demanded, holding onto Yuuna's hand so she can also catch up to her and Grim's speed.
"After them! After them!" Scarabia students shouted.
"Let's duck into a random room and let 'em pass us!" Grim suggested. The trio then ran into a dark empty room with a slam.
"Where'd they go?" Kareem questioned, looking around the halls. "Split up and find them!" he ordered.
"Show yourselves, street rats!"
Soon after, the sound of students were gone.
"Phew...I think they're gone" Grim said,
"I agree. I don't hear anyone nearby" Y/n said. She flinched in surprise when she realized what room they wear in. After all, Levia-fae can see in the dark just as well as they can see during the day.
"It's only a matter of time before they find us..." Yuuna mumbled.
"Yuuna, stop being so pessimistic" Y/n sighed.
Yuuna let out a sqeauk. "S-sorry!"
"Maan...There's gotta be some way to lose those guys!" Grim huffed. "What room is this, anyway? It's too dark to see anything"
"But-"
"Don't say a word, [nickname]. We both know that you can see in the dark" Yuuna huffed, interrupting Y/n before she could make some smartass remark.
'haha. She got you there'
'be quiet, Kussanali...'
Suddenly, Grim felt someone poking him.
"Hm? Why's there somethin' soft and fuzzy nudgin' my face? Y/n stop poking me with your tail" Grim said.
"It's not me" Y/n huffed.
"Heh heh, that tickles!" Grim giggled.
"Here. I will give you guys so light" Y/n sighed as she blinked, and blinked again, this time her eyes where glowing, having Yuuna and Grim see in the dark.
"Whoa! That was cool" Yuuna said.
"Geez! You scared the daylights outta me! I was about tot scream and everything Grim huffed in annoyance before looking around. "I'm guessing Y/n knew that this was Kalim's treasury, huh? They don't lock up the treasure?" questioned Grim.
"Seems like it" Y/n said with a sheepish smile.
"Ooh, that's it!" Grim then turned to the Magic carpet. "If you can help us, we can shake off the patrols and get outside!"
The magic carpet tilted slightly, showing that it was confused on what was happening outside.
"Hey, carpet! I'll let you out if you carry us outta the dorm!" Grim said. The carpet seemed to comply as it allowed the trio to hop on. "Great. All aboard, Yuuna, Y/n! And goodbye, Scarabia!" he explained.
Finally, they were going to be free.
