《Winter Wonderland》The Schemer of the Scalding Sands: part 5

As soon as everyone made it back to the Scarabia Lounge, Jamil made breakfast for everyone, with Y/n and Yuuna's help, which Jamil had mixed feelings about. He let them help him with cooking after Y/n convinced him. (more like threatened-) (author: shut up)
Y/n threatened her snake soulmate about wanting to try human udon....Morbid! Of course, Y/n isn't a cannibal, she just finds using that threat funny.
As soon as breakfast was done, every student, including Grim started digging in, grateful for the meal, and grateful for being out of the heat.
"I knew we gotta stage a prison break as soon as possible, but man..." Grim mumbled, taking another bite of his food as Y/n and Yuuna ate theirs quietly, using their table etiquette. Yuuna wanted to learn it since she was going to be eating her meals with an Empress during her time here at the school, so why not? "As much as I hate to admit it, this food is to die for. Or, well, to be Grim-napped for" he complained as he took another bite of his food.
"I'm not sure what you mean by that, but I'm glad you like the food" Kalim smiled. After all, he is completely unaware of what he was doing when being 'controlled.' "Have some more! Try this blue cheese made from cow's milk for starters. It's great on a cracker. Here!" he exclaimed, giving Grim another cracker.
Y/n hid her disgust for blue cheese, after all, the blue in the cheese is mold, and no one wants moldy cheese.
Yuuna however, didn't say anything as she continued eating while getting worried for Grim again oof.
"Uh, nah, I'm good on crackers..." Grim declined, shrinking back into his chair.
"Please, no need to stand on ceremony! Ah hah hah!" Kalim laughed, stuffing more crackers in Grim's mouth.
"Mrrrph?! *Homph* Mrrrph!" Grim's screams were muffled sadly.
"And there he goes again..." Yuuna murmured.
"Kalim, don't stuff Grim's mouth so full on food" Jamil scolded. He was sitting next to Y/n, 'cause he liked the warm feeling Y/n gives him. "You'll make him choke"
"Oh, sorry!" Kalim apologizes. "Please, take your time. There's plenty more where this came from"
Grim chewed down his food and then swallowed it. "I think you're missin' the point, pal...!"
"We've still got ice cream left over from yesterday," Kalim said. "I always like to set out lots of different flavors, and then take a big soon and scoop out however much sounds good of each one."
"Ice cream..." Y/n eyes sparkled, drooling a bit. Jamil frowned a bit, not liking how Kalim wins her over with delicious foods.
"Y-yeah? You got a whole system for that?" questioned Grim. Yuuna also had sparkles in her eyes at the mention of ice cream. After all, SCARABIA IS SO FLIPPIN' HOT.

"Sure do!" Kalim smiled. "No matter how full you are, there's always room for dessert, right?" he asked. "Hold on, I'll go fetch you some," he said before Jamil stood up.
"Kalim, wait!" Jamil yelled. "I'll get it. You stay seated" he told Kalim.
"I don't mind, really!" Kalim assured. "All you have to do it get it out of the freezer, right?" he asked.
"You don't work as a servant, Kalim" Jamil reminded. "At least TRY to remember that you're the heir to the Asim family. If word got out that I allowed you to do this, my parents would never let me hear the end of it" he sighed.
Y/n sweatdropped a bit. 'It seems that the system is quite strict about servents in the Scalding sands...'
"You're too serious about servitude, Jamil" Kalim teased a bit. "We're just classmates here at Night Raven College. Can't we act like it? After all, students treat Y/n as a classmate when she asked"
Jamil gritted his teeth before letting out a sigh. "Fine. Just let me handle the actual scooping. Would you help me carry it out to everyone?" he asked.
"Easily done!" Kalim agreed with the compromise.
Grim started rummaging through his pockets, sipping to have taken a certain tool that would help in the future.
"Hm?" Kalim turned to the raccoon. "What is it?"
"What's what?" Grim questioned, pretending like he didn't do anything. Y/n knew full well what he did, after all, she saw it from the corner of her eye. "Nothin' to see over here," he said.
"Okay," Kalim shrugged. "Hold on, I'll be right back with dessert," he said, leaning over to Yuuna and giving her a quick kiss on the forehead before heading off to the kitchen, following Jamil.
"...Y'know, I'm startin' to get baffled here" Grim spoke in a low voice, talking to Y/n and Yuuna. "The way Kalim was talkin' just now, he wasn't exactly respectin' others' points, but he meant well enough"
"Me too. It's starting to get strange" Yuuna mumbled for her dormmates here to her only.
"Since when has he started acting like this?" Y/n asked.
"Hmm, it was since we arrived here yesterday. He was acting normal at first, but later in the day, he started acting harsh" Yuuna explained.
"Yeah. It was weird" Grim agreed.
Soon, Kalim walked back to the lounge and stood at the entrance. Y/n sweatdropped when she saw Kalim's eyes. Thank god for her sharp senses.
"Well?" Kalim began, talking in a monotone, getting everyone's attention. "How long are you going to sit around eating? Do you fancy yourselves royalty?! The only royal is Y/n!" he shouted.
"Whaaaa?!" everyone gasped in surprise.
"Get these dishes washed and put away, on the double!" Kalim ordered. "And get ready for afternoon training!" he commanded.

"Y-yes, sir!" the baffled students yelped as they began scrambling around to clean up the lounge.
"Erk!" Grim yelped. "We're back to scary Kalim again"
"Yuuna, you and Grim aren't getting out of this. We'll be doing defense magic training until evening. To the courtyard!" Kalim ordered before turning to the Levia-fae, "Y/n, I want you to observe and train the students while in the fountain" he said.
Y/n let out a sigh. "Alright"
"D-does he have multiple personalities?!" Yuuna questioned, hugging Y/n's arm.
Y/n sweatdropped while watching Kalim continue to boss around the students. "This is going way beyond mood swings..." she mumbled.
Two Scarabia students locked the door to the vacant room that Y/n, Yuuna, and Grim were forced to stay in. "All right, the Amaryllis visitors are secure in their room," the student said to his dormmate.
"Let's check in on the other rooms" his dormmate suggested.
"I swear there's been another escape every day" the student sighed, "Housewarden Kalim's been very cross about it. It's gotten so bad, he's not even listening to counsel from Vice Housewarden Jamil anymore"
His friend agreed. "How long will we have to live like this? I just wanna do home"
"Oh, quit bellyaching" the student scolded. "You think I didn't want to spend the holidays with my family, too" he murmured before the students walked away.
"Are they gone?" Grim asked.
"Yep. It's clear" Y/n answered, on her futon that was on the floor. It was comfy so she didn't complain as Yuuna sat on the bed.
"That afternoon training was so brutal, my meal was ready to come up the same way it went down" Grim whined. "We already know the headmaster ain't gonna be any help here. Which means it's up to us to get ourselves outta this mess as Y/n is our moral support"
"Moral support? It does make things a lot easier since Y/n is here.." Yuuna mumbled.
"Luckily, you've got my towering intellect over here. I've got a perfect prison break ready to go" Grim announced.
"Towering intellect, huh?" Y/n muttered.
"Okay, I'll bite. Let's hear it" Yuuna said, wanting to escape soon since it was hot in the day.
"heh heh heh" Grim chuckled. "I swiped our escape tool this morning. Behold our ticket to freedom!" Grim then took out a spoon.
"A spoon?" questioned Yuuna.
"So that's what you were taking..." mumbled Y/n
"We'll use this bad boy to dig our way through the floor, one spoonful at a time!" Grim cheered.
"That's gonna take WAY too much time and energy," Yuuna remarked.
"They used to call me Grim the Digger back home" Grim grinned. "Leave this to me while you stand lookout!"
Grim then started to dig
"Wow, this is goin' smoother than I thought. I think I'm actually onto something here" Grim said as he continued to dig.
"Okay, I'm getting bored of diggin' into the same spot over and over again...Yuuna, let's switch places," Grim asked.
Yuuna would nodded, getting up from her bed before starting to dig, with Y/n's help.
Suddenly, Y/n flinched when she heard someone come. Grim to have heard it as well. "Ah, cruh!" Grim yelped. "The patrol's comin'! Qucik, pretend you're sleeping!"
The trio immediately went to their beds to pretend they were asleep, but they actually fell asleep for real.
30 minutes later, the door opened a bit, as Jamil peaked his head through the door. His eyes fell on Y/n's sleeping figure and smiled kindly.
He walked into the room and bend over down to Y/n and gave her a kiss on the forehead before standing back up. He walked out of the room and looked behind Y/n and smirked, "Sweet dreams, my Jasmine flower.."
It was morning again, the trio woke up.
"It took til' morning, but we dug a hole big enough for me to fit two paws through," Grim said.
"That's a good pace for one day!" Yuuna cheered.
"Prison breaks aren't done overnight, fufufu" Y/n chuckled.
Then the door opened once again, revealing Scarabia Student A. "Out, you two! It's time for morning training. We're marching to the oasis again!"
"Wake up and get a move on!" Kalim ordered. "To the eastern oasis! March!"
Y/n was again sitting on the elephant with Kalim once again, who was sleeping. Kalim made sure she was safe.
"Urgh, it's even harder to deal with the heat when I'm runnin' on no sleep" Grim complained.
"You're sleep-deprived?" questioned Jamil. "Make sure you drink plenty of water so you don't collapse" he advised.
"Aw, Jamil..." Yuuna mumbled.
"Yeah, I'll do that" Grim nodded, feeling touched at Jamil's kind words.
"I see you falling behind at the rear!" Kalim yelled. "Lift those parasols higher! Front lines, I can hardly hear those bells! Louder!" he commanded.
Grim started panting like crazy as Yuuna took some heavy breaths.
"Pull yourself together. If you stop here, the vultures will swoop in" Jamil reassures him.
"Y-yeah, I'll pass on that, thanks" Grim said.
"Zzzzz" Y/n snored a little, sounding like a snoring bunny.
"You're taking longer than yesterday. Hurry it up!" Kalim ordered.
"Ugh...I can't walk another step" A Scarabia student moaned in exhautioned.
"I can see the oasis. Respire is just ahead!" Jamil assured everyone. "Hang in there just a little while longer, everyone!"
"Wow, he's still cheering us on after all of this" Another Scarabia student had a hopeful smile. "What a vice housewarden!"
"Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm dead tired!" Grim complained.

If you like dragons, romance, a little magic and a lot of war this might be for you. This story eventually evolves into a very loving harem, where the women rely on and love one another just as much as they love our hero. Please note: I am an amateur writer who started this story as a form of therapy while my wife was teetering on the brink of death. Thankfully she survived but by that point I was so committed to telling this story I couldn’t stop. I learned a great deal about writing over time but I am afraid my early chapters were very rough. I have since gone back and begun to edit them, applying the lessons learned and cleaning them up. I hope you will still enjoy the story, as I love sharing it and I can’t imagine a better use of my time. Sexual content.. In seven books I have written two sex scenes, but one of them will be highly edited once I reach them with my rewrite. Overall I imply our characters are sharing their love but don't go into any great detail as to how. So if sexual content bothers you, it is only lightly touched on twice.
