chapter one:
i would say i love the black, but i think you'd look great in green."
she carried her luggage up the stairs to her cabin. she brought two bags, one pink suitcase with all of her clothes, and a light yellow backpack that held all of her essentials: like her inhaler.
her chest was heaving as he threw open the wooden door and shoved her luggage in the far right corner, next to the big window. the petite girl always loved fresh air. quickly, her hand ripped open the yellow backpack and searched for the small, cold piece of plastic. once finding it, she slid her pack against the wall as she breathed in, one, two, three. and breathed out, one, two, three. she smiled slightly at her ability to breathe again. and stood back up to unpack. her hightop white chucks squeaked as she walked around the cabin. it was a nice, small room with six bunk beds, and a large cotton carpet on the floor. luckily, she got the bottom bunk because she was known to get claustrophobic at time.
her eyes glanced around as she realized that she was the only one in the cabin. that can't be right, she thought. it was nearly five-fifty and dinner was held at six. she glanced at the clock in the corner of the cabin as her eyes widened and she sprinted out of the cabin. it was six-fifteen and she knew that she was going to look like an idiot as she rushed into the cafeteria.
her fingers gently caressed the handle as she opened up the door. the whole room, once chattering, was now dead silent. she visibly gulped as everyone's eyes were on her as she turned towards the food line and took a spot in it. she ran a hand through her shoulder length brunette hair as she faced away from the audience, her shoulder slumping in relief as the noise started again.
the line moved quickly and she was again facing the crowd as she was deciding where to sit. it seemed like all the tables were full, and she didnt want to barge in on anyone having a conversation. that's when she noticed a figure in the back corner, actually two figures. two boys in black eating by themselves at a small table. she smiled and found her way over there.
when she set her lunch tray down at the head of the table, right next to the boys, they visibly jumped. the boy to her right was smaller and had bleached yellow hair with a striped shirt on. he smiled a bit at her while she turned to glance at the boy on her left. he was by all means beautiful. he
looked taller and slim, with an unruly mess of dark curls upon his head. his lips were full and part as his dark eyes were fixated upon her. she gulped and set her eyes back on her lunch tray. meatloaf. she hated meatloaf.

"um, hi. i'm baby. and i was wondering if you two would mind if i sat with you?" her small fragile voice let out.
"hello, i'm pugsley, and this is my older brother wednesday. we wouldn't mind at all if you sat with us, would we?" the boy in the striped shirt explained as nudged his brother. the boy to her ri- wednesday, grunted out and kept his eyes on baby. she smiled and nodded her head.
pugsley continued, "pink is definitely your color, baby." wednesday rolled his eyes, for some reason he didn't like his brother saying her name. it sounded like they were together. baby laughed out loud as she looked down at her baby pink mini dress. she wore a white turtle neck with the tank top dress over it.
"thank you pugsley, i would say i love the black, but i think you'd look great in green." baby said softly as pugsley laughed.
"this is pretty much my whole closet, but by all means feel free to help me next shopping trip." the blonde joked back. the bantering went on for another five minutes before wednesday finally noticed something.
"aren't you going to eat?" a voice rasped out that could make any girl weak to her knees. baby turned her eyes to wednesday before leaning her head on her palm and staring at him.
his eyebrows furrowed as he watched the girl.
"no, why?" she whispered back to him as he clenched his jaw and went back to ignoring the girl. she pursed her lips before folding her lap napkin and standing up. "i must be going now, thank you pugsley for being great company. goodnight." she murmured as she walked back to her cabin.
wednesday certainly caught her eye, but she was confused. baby never liked anyone. and let alone a dark, sadistic looking boy who wouldn't even mutter more than a sentence to her! she couldn't get his plump lips out of her head, and that's what disgusted her.. she wanted those plump lips on her. baby made up her mind: she wasn't going to be near him.
meanwhile, back at the cafeteria pugsley was left puzzled.
"what do you reckon happened?" pugsley said to his brother before scarfing down his plate. his brother only stabbed the meatloaf and raised his eyes to pugsley.
"what do you care? do you have a crush on her or something?" wednesday scoffed after finishing his sentence.
"no of course not i-" pugsley looked at his brother and smirked at his realization. "you think she's hot, don't you weddy."
"definitely not. she reminded me of flowers, gross." wednesday muttered. "and don't call me weddy ever again."

three days passed, and it was time for a swimming course with the seventeen year olds. baby had just turned seventeen the week before camp, so she was excited to join the older group.

she had managed to make friends with a lot of the girls at camp in meanwhile, and grow close with a few of the boys. she had to find some way to get the mysterious boy out of her mind. but she knew, late at night, something connected them.
her eyes raked over her figure in the girls locker room mirror. she was wearing a yellow two piece, that showed a lot of cleavage. it wasn't her first choice, but after accidentally packing her younger sisters suit instead of her own, she had to borrow an extra from one of her friends. baby wasn't perfect, her waist was narrow but held some fat. her chest was big and her behind was noticeable. but yet, baby could only notice the negative. like how her back dimples popped out, how she barely had a collarbone, or how her feet and hands were small. it all looked wrong to her.
"you look great, bee." her friend, alisha, said as she came around and hugged the girl from behind to silence her thoughts. the girl in yellow smiled brightly at the nickname the girls gave her.
"so do you gorgeous! thank you though." baby answered back. it was true, alisha was beautiful. she was african-american with beautifully smooth skin. she made baby look as pale as a vampire. alisha had a cute pink bikini one that emphasized her wide hips and narrow waist. she was beautiful.
they walked together to the lake and made their way to the front of the line on the girls dock. many eyes were burning to get a glimpse of baby, but one set of eyes in particular was all she cared about. the brunette scanned over everyone before locking eyes with wednesday at the front of the line on the boys dock. he didnt look to pleased to be standing next to the closeness the boy next to him exhibited. the curly headed boy was wearing black trunks with white drawstrings hanging. baby gulped at his shirtless chest, and averted her eyes. of course, wednesday noticed the whole interaction and smiled slightly before focusing on the camp counselor.
"attention! everyone!" the counselor rang a bell a few time to get everyone's attention. "in the groups of two you all are paired in, we will be acting a situation. one of you is the victim, and the other will save the victim. any questions?" baby was about to raise her hand, she couldn't swim. literally, would drown if she did. but the counselor immediately carried on. "wednesday and william, you two will be first."
william, the boy next to wednesday, snickered and looked over to wednesday. "is that your bathing suit?" he sneakily said making snickers erupt around him.
"is that your overbite?" wednesday replied back in a monotone voice. william looked embarrassed and furrowed his eyebrows.
"i'll be the victim! i want to be an actor someday!" william said before jumping in and swimming ten yards out.
"clearly," wednesday muttered under his breath. baby frowned as someone stood in front of her, making her not be able to see wednesday. she walked a few few to the side as her balance slipped and she fell into the lake. she was pulled under a small tide and when she kicked her feet enough to get to the surface, she was a good five meters out. her arms were frantically trying to move around but her head couldnt stay above water. she was drowning.
she felt two cold arms grab her, one under her neck and the other under her legs. when she reached the surface she looked up to see the beautiful stranger looking down at her while taking her to the surface. her cheeks flushed as she was skin-to-skin with the boy. her breathing picked up at being so close to a boy. she focused on her breathing exercises that she had trained herself to do over the years to calm herself down. she rested her head on his chest while looking up at the sky. in, one, two, three. out, one, two, three. he visibly flinched at the contact, but relaxed and gripped her tighter before setting her on the edge of the deck. she sat on the wooden deck, with her legs dangling into the water, wednesday gripped her thighs while he was standing in the water.
"how could you be so reckless?" he sneered while baby's eyebrows furrowed. her eyes watered as she realized what danger she put him in, she felt humiliated. he was staring at her coldly when he noticed a small tear slip out of her eye. his eyes softened as he lifted himself out of the lake and sat next to the girl. "baby, i'm sorry i didn't mean to be so harsh." he whispered as he lifted her chin to face him.
baby thought he was beautiful. his hair was soaked and a few strands of hair were surrounding his eyes. his lips were bright pink and his skin was pale white creating a great contrast. his touch made butterflies erupt in her stomach, and she didn't mind it.
"i-i'm sorry." she managed while he shook his head and stood up. he held his hand out and she looked at it confused.
"come on, baby, let's talk." she grabbed his hand and laughed at the size difference. her hands were so small compared to his. he smiled at this and thought her laugh was the cutest thing. he intertwined their fingers as he took her back to his cabin.
what they didn't know was the boy treading in the water watching the whole interaction. and boy, he was not happy.
