《Bite or Howl》Chapter 15

"I never thought I'd get married to the Prince of Vampires." I tell Catherine who's beside me. She giggles and lays the bouquet in her hands down, then turns around to walk towards me. Her dress is beautiful. It's white and hugs her body then falls out at the very bottom near her knees. The sun has just set and the wedding is beginning to start. "I never thought my brother could score such a pretty girl like you." She confesses. I laugh at her remark then gasp, pitching for air as the women behind me tighten my dress. I'm standing in the middle of a small room, getting ready as the guests slowly flood inside. They're visible from where I stand. The windows give me a nice view.
Black cars identical to the one Nick drives come in through the gates of the castle and stop at the very front door. Guests step out and enter as the car drives off. Everyone looks stunning from here. All suited up and glammed with accessories, ready to score the first glimpse of the wedding. I can't wait to see what the groom looks like.
"Chase should be inside by now." Catherine tells me, looking up at the clock on the wall. "That's my queue. I'll see you there." She gives me a quick kiss on my cheek before walking out the doors and leaving me with the women around me. They do not speak to me, rather a quiet bunch they are. They continue spraying things into my hair and hovering over my dress, fixing small patches and tightening them, restricting the air that goes inside my lungs.
The door opens in front of me, attracting my attention. The women stay unbothered as their focus is fixated on me. I ignore them and look over to the door. Lupus stands there, peaking through the doorway. His suit is black and white with a tie that tucks right inside the middle. His face is all fixed up as if he weren't beaten up yesterday and he looks rather happy. "My princess, you look stunning." He laughs and steps inside. "Thanks. I feel like it's a bit too much." I confess but he shakes his head. "No. This just made my day." He replies as I smile.
I don't deserve Lupus.
"And for someone that just got beaten up and ripped off from their job yesterday, I'm surprisingly fitting in quite well." He jokes. I pout. "Lupus, I'm so sorry." I whisper. He shakes his head and smiles. "I'm still with you and I'm alive. There's nothing you should be sorry about." He looks down and plays with my dress, fanning his fingers along the material. "And hey, I get to walk you down the aisle."

"Hello, my darling." My mind is a haze when my eyes open. When they do, I first see an orange sky with no clouds. Just miles and miles of orange as if the sun had just set, leaving the sky tinted from its light. I'm laying down with my dress on, the floor is coated with water. Shallow water. It's clear yet misty and I can't seem to grasp it. But my dress doesn't get wet.

"Where am I?" I mutter. A woman in a long gown approaches me with a warm smile. "You're at the gates of the afterlife. This is where people who have died come to either way their way to hell," she points to the right side of me. "Or heaven." And the other side. But it's odd because all I see is miles more of water and sky.
"Am I dead?" I ask her. She chuckles and shakes her head. "No. You're quite the opposite, you see. You're standing outside the castle doors, waiting for them to open so you can marry my son." She explains. "We haven't officially met, darling." My mouth hangs open in confusion. I'm delusional. Or I'm dead.
"I hate to bring you up here on your wedding day. I wanted to meet you, say hi to the woman that will take my spot on the throne." She explains with a kind smile. But then her face goes rigid and serious, wiping off the smile in a click.
"You must not fear my child, but there is a darkness coming to dread over Mount Verona. Only you and Chase can stop it. And the worst part is, the darkness causing it, is right there. Within someone you trust. Within someone you call family. I cannot speak of the name so you must watch out." She warns.I nod my head in agreement. "I'll never leave the palace alone." I tell her.
But she grins. An evil and sly grin as if she were possessed.
"My sweet darling, who ever said the danger was outside the castle?"

"Are you ready?" Lupus's touch sends shivers against my body. His hand lays on my shoulder, reassuring me that it'll be okay. But I'm not shivering because I'm nervous.
My sweet darling, who ever said the danger was outside the castle?
I look forward and into the door. I can see the aisle from here. Everything. "Why aren't they looking?" I ask Lupus. All the guests are facing the other way towards the altar. And not me.
"They can't see you, princess. You can see them but they can't see you." He explains. I nod.
"Magic." He replies, waving his hands in a spooky pattern. I shake my head and chuckle, looking straight forward.
"Where's Chase?" I ask, suddenly looking around. "He'll come later, just after you." Lupus explains to me. "You sure know a lot about this." I mutter. He nudges my shoulder. "Of course I do. It's your wedding, what do you expect?"
Heads began to peer eagerly over their shoulders towards me, looking directly into my eyes. I suddenly feel so uncomfortable, watching as someone lays their eyes on me even though they can't see me through the door. I stand rigid. The bishop at the very end of the altar makes a small indication to his left as an organ starts to play.

The two guards on either side of the door reach forward, grasping the metal knobs and stepping back, pulling them open as they move. The wedding guests turn and watch my gaze, their faces light up into broad smiles as the music really starts to kick in. Lupus takes my hand from beside me and I turn to him. He gives me a warm smile before stepping forward, bringing him along with me.
I walk down with him, meeting everyone's eyes and smiling. They return it, surprisingly, making my anxiety and stress slowly fade through their excited expressions. Nick stands at the very front of the altar bedside the bishop, grinning in his suit. I roll my eyes at him. So clichè.
When I reach the very front, Lupus turns me around, making me face him. The light at the entrance shines brightly, clogging the view of the guests as Lupus is the only person in my vision. He smiles down at me before bending down on his knee and taking my hand, brushing his lips against the back of my palm. He walks off, standing beside Catherine on the opposite side of the hall. I turn back and walk up the steps and turn around to face the guests.
Waves of panic began to overcome me as a rush of adrenaline came crashing through my blood rush. My hands started to sweat and my eyes became cloggy underneath this blinding light. I began to turn away for a fleeting second but then, at the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of something that made me stop. Lifting my head up, I watched as he walked down the aisle just like I did a few moments ago. The royal court stood up and turned towards him, The Prince of Midnight. My breath caught in my throat as I admired him, thinking to myself he is gorgeous. The way he strutted down the aisle so casually yet so breathtaking, it was like a dream. I watched with a strange kind of curiosity as he lifted his hand so casually and tunnelled it through his dark blue hair, smoothing back the locks that covered his deep blue eyes. Those eyes were hypnotic.
He was hypnotic.
He smiled as he met my gaze, giving me his famous grin. The same one he gave me a few weeks back when we first met. When he first tried to eat me. I laugh at the thought. 'What are you laughing about?' His voice echoes through my head. I hold back a grin as I reply, 'The fact that you almost tried to eat me, now wanting me to be your wife.' He grins warningly, but I can't help but giggle.
Everything about him was perfect but at the same time, his representation was so dark, it gave me chills. He had strong features that weren't too pretty nor hard. It was as if he had a spell over me. Like I was meeting him all over again.Moving underneath the arch, Chase positioned himself beside me. He gave me a smile and said, "You look beautiful." Delicately, he reached out and took my hand in his and brought it to his mouth, brushing his lips over my knuckles.
'I promise I will do everything to make you satisfied.' His echo crossed my mind.
The bishop cleared his throat loudly and Chase tore his beautiful eyes away from me. "Do you take this woman to be your wife?" The bishop asks. Chase turned his head back to me and looked me straight in the eyes as he spoke, "I do."
'Now you are mine and I am yours.' He said softly in my head.
'I'm about to be married to a lunatic, help me.' I joked. The corners of his mouth tugged upwards and I could feel his amusement. The bishop then turned to me and asked me patiently, "Do you take this man to be your husband?" The wedding guests lean forward behind me, pearing at my actions as they anxiously wait for my answer. "I do."
The bishop snapped his sermon book shut and announced loudly, "You may now kiss the bride." The crowd burst into applause and I turned towards my husband, staring up at his beautiful smile that glows underneath the light. It shines just like a while ago, blinding my left side and vanishing out the gleaming faces of the wedding guests. Their applauds fade into silence as I feel like I'm floating. Flying. All at the same time.
I look over at Catherine who clasps her hands so hard, they sting pink. She jumps around like a little child in her dress beside Lupus. Nick leans against the wall and smirks, grinning like his face might fall off. Lupus's head is tilted to the side, admiring the scene he watches. He mouths, 'Well done.'But now the only one in my vision is Chase. His blue hair hangs low on his face, blocking his eyes. I lift my hand up to move it to the side, meeting his stare. He leans closer to me, inhaling my scent. He smiles. Not the Chase grin he always gives me. A genuine smile that sends butterflies all over my body.
He gently catches my chin with his finger, tilting it upwards. He leans down and grazes his lips across mine as I melt into his touch and wrap my arms around his neck and enjoy this one moment that I wish could last forever.
