《The Hybrid》Other Motives

Kai-
I down the last of my whiskey, a stupid attempt to forget my sorrows. I sit in the bar alone. I am alone. After Liam blew my cover...
"Need another?" the bartender asks gruffly.
I shake my head. "Nah, man. I was just leaving." I say as I stand from my stool, throwing a few golden coins on the bar to pay for my drinks. I then leave the small old bar and begin my journey through the fresh winter woods to gather resources and men.
.
.
.
Inside my old friend Josh's office is where I sit. The walls are classy, lined with antique records and dumb human posters of garage bands and crap that is useless for this hunter to have. He sits behind his cherry-wooden desk and sips a cold beer. I sit across his desk in a small wooden chair I pulled up from the table behind me. My motives are clear but Josh seems hesitant to give me what I want.
"Come on, do we have a deal or not?" I grew impatient at the stubborn hunter in front of me. "Lend me some of your men. I have a job I need them for." I reminded him.
"I know what you want, Kai. But is two thousand coins worth it?" Josh said as he took a swig of the beer in his hand. We casually sat in his office in the middle of nowhere. He set the beer down and leaned in closer to me, his large out of shape figure brushing the desk. "What is it you need my men for exactly?" He asks curiously.
I smile evilly and then I share my mission with the old retired hunter. "I'm going to kill the vampire Liam."

Alex-
"Come on, Love, we haven't all day!" Liam growled impatiently. I giggled before I shyly walked out of the changing room of the small boutique we were visiting. Liam had insisted this morning that I find a new dress for his 'event' tonight. I had agreed to come try on, reluctantly. I had never been one to like dress shopping. I love dressing up sometimes but its the actual going and trying on the clothes that's exhausting. We had already been here thirty minutes and even Liam was growing bored. This was the final dress we had decided for me to try on. It was a beautiful black dress with a nice sweetheart neckline. It was fitted perfectly in the front to hug my curves and pull out my hourglass figure, but it flowed down elegantly in the skirt and landed gracefully just above my knees.
I walked out of the dressing room and looked in the fully body mirror to examine myself in the dress. Liam was sitting in the plush pepto-pink chair in front of the mirror as he judged every dress I had tried on. When he saw me his pupils dilated and he opened his mouth slightly as if he was going to say something but he didn't. I brushed my sides down as I looked at myself in the mirror. I glanced at his awed expression and a smirk found its way to my face.
I spun in a small circle as my dress flowed with me. "See something you like, King?" I teased as I stopped spinning and raised a playful eyebrow at him.
"I think this dress is slightly less hideous than the others." He pretended to be thinking hard. He then twirled his finger in a circle, "One more turn, love." I giggled and spun again until I was facing him only he wasn't in the chair anymore. "I like this one." His velvety voice came from directly behind me making me jump.

I turned around to face him and he gave me a crooked grin. "Now go pop it off so we can purchase it and get out of here." He smiled before lightly pushing me back into the changing rooms.

.
.
I stood in my large white room and stared at myself in the mirror one last time. I wore the flowy black dress we had bought earlier along with black wedge heels and my hair was straightened to perfection. I wore simple winged eyeliner and mascara to top it all off. I felt sad. I had been separated from my mate for a week now and I had no idea where he was or if he was even alive. No. I knew he was alive. A small tear fell from the corner of my hazel eye. Something about being with Liam, I felt less sad. Even though Liam had me here, I was still secretly desperate to escape and find Tyler. Was he still in the wooden cage we both suffered in at the Hunter's camp?
A small knock on my door brought me back to reality. I quickly turned away from the door as it opened. "Are you ready, Love?" Liam rang as he walked over to me. I quickly wiped the tear as I took a deep breath to regain myself. Liam must've noticed as he reached me he asked 'what's wrong'. He gently pulled me to face him but I didn't look him in the eyes. I kept my eyes looking at his suited chest. He reached his hand and lifted my chin up so our eyes met.
"I will ask again, what's wrong?" He examined me as he tried to read me.
"Nothing." I shook my head before giving him a weak smile.
"I know when you lie to me, Little Wolf, vampire hearing and all." He growled. "Tell me."
"We left Tyler at- at the Hunter's Camp." I softly stated as I diverted my gaze back downward.
"Tyler? The 'ruthless possessive almighty alpha'?" Liam quoted, clearly unamused. I turned away at his disrespectful words.
"You know what." I spoke rudely, "You clearly don't care so let's just go down to the stupid party." I growled as I brushed past him. If anyone was ruthless it was him. He appeared in front of me in a flash, stopping me in my tracks.
"I've clearly hit a nerve," He said as he raised his hands cautiously. He let out an annoyd sigh, "Last I heard of the untamed alpha, he had gotten loose of his cage soon after you were left to freeze in the lake." He shared the information. My eyes widened. Tyler was probably looking for me.
"Anything else?" I asked hopefully. Liam shook his head no.
"Sorry about your hairy boyfriend, Love," He said solemnly. He then gestured his arm out to me. I took it gently and we left my white bedroom. "You'll enjoy this party. Just try not to fight the other Purebloods this time." He joked and I laughed at his reference.
The party was lovely. The huge ballroom in Liam's mansion was decorated beautifully with gold and black streamers. Everything seemed to give off a glowing shimmer as he lead me through the crowd. There was a large table with tasty looking foods set out for me to stuff my face with later. The dance floor was glittering gold as lights above streamed down to make everything shine. I stared in awe as the whole set up was amazing. Vampires danced happily and went occasionally to the giant gold fountain flowing with what I assumed was blood. Vampires sure knew how to throw parties. Liam led me to stand by the food table as he turned to face me.

"Can I trust you if I leave you here, or do I have to take you back and lock you in your room?" He asked warningly.
"I'll be fine." I smiled as he kissed my hand.
"Save me a dance." were his final words before he got lost in the crowd.
The first thing I did was hit up the food table. Yasss. I piled up a plate with chips, M&Ms, cake, and it was all topped off with a velvety cupcake. I smiled at my tower of food as I made my way to once of the tables so I could shovel in my food. After I inhaled my tower, I grew thirsty. I got up, leaving my plate there like a savage, and walked over to the bar. I debated getting water but then I decided that a small glass of wine wont hurt.
"Wine please." I told the vampire bartender. He smiled and then fixed my drink. I took the golden wine glass and sipped it slowly. I walked back to my table to find that my empty plate had been taken away probably by a waiter. The music pumped through the room as "don't threaten me with a good time by Panic! At the Disco" began.
I jumped up from my chair and rushed to the dance floor to get lost in the music. I swayed my body to Brandon Urie's sweet sounds until the song ended, leaving me kind of disappointed. The next song that followed wasn't one that I knew so I decided to go find Liam.
I walked around the massive crowd of people in search of the Vampire but had no luck. I stopped near a white beam to rest and listen to the music. I glanced over and my eyes landed on Liam, only he wasn't alone.
Liam stood pressed up against a wall by another woman. She had long blonde strait hair and wore a pink sequin dress that barely covered her body. She pressed herself all over the pure blood as she shared a sloppy french kiss with him. My heart dropped as I saw the two getting so comfortable. I quickly turned and walked away as fast as my wedge heels would take me. I needed some air.
I pushed my way through the crowd until I found the balcony doors that lead to sweet freedom and fresh winter air. I closed the doors behind me and immediately was engulfed in frozen winds blowing softly. I shivered as I remembered I didn't bring a jacket. I didn't really care at the moment, I just needed to be alone. Why was this upsetting me so much? I stared off of the balcony at the snowy forest beneath me. I really wanted to jump off and take my wolf for a run.
Do ittt!!, my wolf pleaded. It had been a while since I had taken her for a nice run. I decided to go since this party clearly didn't require my presence.
I took the smart route, making my way through the crowd and out of the ballroom doors, I then walked downstairs and simply pranced out of the front door and into the chilly winter night.
I didn't think much, I just shifted as I began to run, not even caring that my clothes and shoes went flying off of my body and scattering on the ground. I smelled the fresh winter pine as I ran through the peaceful forest. My white wolf blended nicely with the fresh soft snow that had fallen earlier today. Running was the place where I actually feel free. I can truly think and gather my emotions that I keep locked away.
I continue to blaze through the frosty forest as Liam comes to my mind. It really hurt me that he was hanging onto that woman but I couldn't understand why. I had a mate. Tyler. Oh how I miss Tyler. My run is cut short as I see a man standing in my view. I slow my run to a walk as I cautiously approach the man. He comes into view and I recognize it as Kai. I stop in my tracks and growl at the hunter. He does not seem to recognize me considering he has never seen my wolf. He gets into a fighting stance and pulls out a knife.
"I knew there were wolves in these woods." He grunts as he holds his knife to the ready. I freeze in my tracks. I can't take on Kai, he is a fully trained wolf hunter leader. "You're breathtaking." He muses as he stared at my wolf lustfully. "White wolves are rare." He smiles evilly as he tightens his grip on the knife. I let out a warning growl as I back up a few paces. He flips the knife in his hand before he catches it and places it back in his pocket swiftly. "Too bad I'm on a tight schedule." He explains as he relaxes and leans against a tree. "Otherwise, you would be mine, white wolf." I just stare at him completely silent for a moment. I then take off and run in the opposite direction back towards Liam's mansion.
I enter the party once again as if nothing ever happened. I was only gone for about an hour so hopefully Liam didn't notice. Not that he cared, he seemed too busy with that blonde, I mentally scoffed. I made my way back to the quiet chilly balcony for a moment. I looked once again over the white trees that I had previously ran happily through.
"Nice view, huh?" I heard a voice from beside me, making me jump and let out a gasp. I turned my head and fear covered my face as I looked at Kai. "Oh you look like you've seen a ghost. Tell me, is there something on my face?"
"Kai. What are you doing here?" I gripped the railing to the balcony as the menacing Hunter stood beside me.
"Oh I just thought I would pop in, check on my favorite Hybrid." He gave me a dry smile that I didn't return. "Oh and," he continued as he turned to face the forest, "I though you would like to know the whereabouts of a certain Alpha, Tyler." He said raising an eyebrow at me.

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess.
