《The Hybrid》3. Alpha

My dreams are filled with images of a large black wolf with glowing red eyes. He watches me like a predator. His eyes are haunting. Alluring.
Consciousness finally finds me as I roll onto my side and a small draft hits my shoulder.
Wait...
My eyes peel open and I shoot up as recollection of the past events hit my brain. The wolf was real. The vampire that tried to take me away. I look around to see that I am sprawled out on a black leather couch with a small grey knit blanket draped over my legs.
There is gauze wrapped around my wrist and torso. My torn clothes are bloody from the trauma they had encountered last night.
Where am I?
My heart races as I stand on my feet. I feel no pain from the wounds I had suffered. They have probably healed by now since I have the blood of a werewolf.
I look around to see that I am in a sort of living room. There is a large stone fireplace with an old wooden mantle. The rug under my toes is made of fur and the room smells faintly of spice and linen.
I glance out of the large window and see that it is now daybreak. Questions spill into my thoughts as I slowly pace back and forth in front of the couch. I have no idea where I am or how I got here.
"Good. You're awake." I hear a deep voice from behind me, causing me to jump.
My heart pounds as I turn around to face him.
He is very tall and muscular. He wears a tight black shirt and jeans, which frame his body very nicely I might add. He has shaggy dark hair and deep brown eyes. His sharp jawline is decorated with stubble that makes him look rustic. His honey tan skin is free of any scars or marks. His scent fills the room immediately, drawing my attention. It is the same scent from the majestic black wolf.
"W-who are you?" I ask abruptly without my own consent.
"Tyler." He says shortly before nodding at me, "I will have someone bring you a change of clothes. Get cleaned up and meet me in the dining hall. I need to ask you a few things."
Then he turns and leaves.
I stand there in a puzzled silence for a minute. After having zero information on the man, a young woman finally brings me a change of clothes and directs me to a small bathroom nearby.
I quickly throw on a pair of light blue jeans and a thin white shirt. Anxiety builds in the pit of my stomach as I look around for the dining hall he was talking about.
I enter the kitchen and immediately the smell of bacon fills my nose. My stomach growls as my wolf pleads to be fed. The kitchen is decorated with updated appliances and mahogany cabinets. It looks used in a homey way that reminds me of the pack house back home.

I don't see Tyler. Instead, I see another guy who has a similar build only slightly smaller. He has blonde shaggy hair and grey eyes. He turned to me and his face changed to very serious.
"Who are you?" He questioned, putting down his plate and walking closer. He looked very territorial.
"M- my name is Alexandra." I say timidly. Something about the way that this man looks at me makes my skin shrivel.
"How did you get in here, intruder?" He growls and reality sets in. He doesn't know who I am. He must think I broke in or something.
"Tyler brought me here" I began to explain.
"Oh, you should have just led with that. He didn't tell me he had a girl over again last night." He visually relaxes, his face morphing from tense to relaxed in a singular second. "You can show yourself out as soon as breakfast is over." He waves his hand as if to dismiss me.
"This is the one I found in the woods, Devon." I hear a voice from behind me.
I turn to see Tyler entering the room, his eyes fixed on the man.
His eyes dart to me and then his lips formed the shape of an o.
"I am sorry, alpha, I thought the girl was an intruder for a second. She does not smell of here." He rolls his shoulders back.
I turn to Tyler and my lips part slightly. He is the alpha of this pack.
Tyler turns to lock eyes with me, "This way." He says motioning his arm to a different archway that leads into a large room.
I walk in front of him quietly until he sits down at the large dining table. There are two places set at the end. Two plates of steaming eggs and biscuits paired with a small glass of juice.
"Eat." he nods towards the food. His tone is not threatening nor demanding.
I grab a small metal fork and dig into the scrambled eggs. My stomach growls as soon as the food hits my tastebuds. I had not realized I was so hungry until I began to eat. I clear my plate in minutes before reaching for my glass of juice.
I look up at Tyler, who has been watching me the whole time. He straightens his posture and clears his throat as soon as he catches my eye. The sunlight gleams gently through the windows, lighting up his beautiful face.
"What is your pack?" He finally asks, placing his hands on the table.
"The CrescentRing pack." I set the glass of juice down on the table, anxiety building in my stomach.
Please tell me you saved them. One of them, any of them. My mind flickers back to the haunting screams of my alpha as the vampires began to tear into him.
Tyler does not say anything, he just looks at me with soft brown eyes.
"We were attacked by a group of vampires last night." I begin to pick at my nails, unable to look him in the eye. "I saw the pack house burning."

"So far you are the only person we have recovered." He breathes out.
"So they're dead?" My voice cracks as tears pool in my eyes.
Tyler nods solemnly as a tear drops from my eye. My face goes pale as I realize that I am the only one left. The vampires took everything from me. My family burned in that fire because of them. Addison is gone.
"I heard your scream in the woods when my men had gotten word of your pack's peril. I came as fast as I could but there was nobody left to save but you." His words are soft.
I swallow a hard knot in my throat.
"I won't let anything like that ever happen to you again." He says sincerely. Something about the tone in his voice makes me believe him.
"What will happen to me now? Does that make me a rogue?" I hold back sobs as I picture my life on the run. Alone in the woods without a home.
"No, I would never send my mate into a life like that. You will remain here with me in this pack." His words hit me like a wall.
All of the pieces fall into place. How could I not have realized it? His scent, the way my body is immediately attracted to the man. He is my mate. My lips part slightly at his words as he gives me a small smile.
"What pack is this?" I question him. He straightens up more.
"The SilverMoon pack," He states seriously. SilverMoon. I feel the blood rush from my face. I had heard stories of this ruthless, bloodthirsty pack. They would kidnap rogue wolves and torture them for fun. The Alpha... Tyler was the leader of the madness.
My mate. No. He couldn't be the leader of this pack. Was he really as ruthless as everyone says?
"Are you okay?" He snaps me back to reality as he scoots closer to me, his eyes worried. Devon came back into the room looking for Tyler.
"Alpha, there is a very important phone call for you," Devon says as he enters the room.
Tyler leaves the room and I sit there in silence for a moment staring at my eggs. Events of last night play in my mind like a record. So much has happened so quickly.
It doesn't seem real. My pack cant be dead. There is no way that I will never get to see Addison again.
Tears pool in my eyes as I hear footsteps behind me.
"You smell of a rogue." A menacing voice from behind me growls, causing the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up.
"I guess I am now..." I breathe out, letting my head drop. "My pack is gone now."
The man comes over to take Tyler's seat at the table. He falls into the chair heavily before letting out a loud breath.
"What is your pack?" He tilts his head to the side curiously.
I raise my eyes to him. He has long orange hair and a bushy beard. He looks to be about my age, but there is a deep scar on his eyebrow that screams danger.
"CrescentRing." I breathe out.
"Oh so you're a long way from home." He purrs, inching closer to me.
Anxiety builds in my stomach at his proximity. Something about the man makes me want to squirm away and hide.
"Is this pack really as bad as it seems? Does everybody capture rogues and violently torture them? Have other packs ended up in rubble because they were not willing to submit and join?" I can't help myself, the words spill from my lips before I can allow them to process.
He gives a small laugh.
"What is your name?"
"My name is Alex." I say shyly.
He leans closer, his hot breath smelling of coffee and tobacco.
"Let me tell you something, Alex," He places his hand on top of mine. I can feel his corse palms roughly scrape my skin like sandpaper.
"The SilverMoon pack is exactly what the stories have told you it is." He grumbles lowly.
I suck in a small breath as my heart drops.
"We are raised to be violent. Bred that way." He reaches a large finger towards me, "and that alpha, he is the worst of them all." He gives me a wicked smile.
"Anthony." A strong voice makes me jump.
I turn my head to see Tyler standing in the doorway with his fists clenched.
Anthony smirks as he stands at attention to his alpha. "I was simply welcoming her to the pack." He chuckles to himself before leaving.
I watch Tyler with wide eyes as he makes his way to sit down next to me.
"I hope he didn't say anything too crazy." Tyler breathes out casually as he turns to his plate.
My body feels tense as I think about what Anthony said. Was he lying to joke with me? I watch Tyler as he looks at me once again. What was the mysterious phone call he had to rush off and answer. My alpha never left the room for phone calls.
"Are you finished with your food? I can wash up." Tyler says as he grabs my plate.
His arm comes directly in front of me to grab the glass platter and I see a fresh stain of crimson red blood.
My lips part slightly and I look into his eyes the moment he pulls his arm away to adjust his sleeve.
Why is there blood on him?

As an author, I'd like to interact with my community and get ideas and what I can improve on. I'm not perfect and don't expect a masterpiece. I may have a bit of experience writing as a hobby, I make mistakes and my style is a bit rough around the edges. I hope you stick around and watch me build this story up. I don't have a predetermined schedule and the releases will be slow. Since I got college, my schedule is most likely 1-2 chapters a month but that shouldn't be that bad since I get some time to think about what I can write in the story. Again, my apologies for that. I hope I have your support moving forward and that you enjoy the characters and their journies.
