The next morning you sat and chatted with the girls while helping them do chores. You heard Arthur talking to Uncle about going into town, which got the girls excited. They all got up and walked over to Arthur.
"If your gonna take the old man into town, mind taking us too?" Karen asked him.
"Why what do you got planned?" He asked.
"Nothing, we'll find something for y'all to do, we always do." Karen responded.
"Come on them." Arthur said.
"You coming y/n?" Tilly asked looking back. You thought for a moment.
"We'll get you some new clothes, cmon." Arthur said waving you over.
You chuckled. "Okay fine."
You all piled into the back of the wagon. You were headed to a small livestock town named Valentine. You've been there a few times throughout your travels, but never stayed long enough to know of any business opportunities.
"Why don't you girls sing us a song?" Uncle asked. The girls broke out in song, while you stayed quiet but hummed along.
As you were riding to town, you saw a mans wagon go crazy, and his horses got lose. Arthur got down and went to get his horse that ran off. All the girls cheered as he brought the horse back.
"If you lot wouldn't of been here, I probably would have robbed him." Arthur said getting back on the wagon. Everyone chuckled.
"Well you didn't!" Mary-Beth responded.
You finally arrived at Valentine. Everyone was taking in the civilization and were grateful they weren't on the mountain anymore. Arthur parked the wagon down by the stables. Everyone got out of the wagon. The girls went to find some business.
"The general store will have clothes, cmon I'll buy you something." Arthur said.
You followed him and uncle to the store. When you entered, you walked over to the counter to look through the catalog. You flipped through the pages, not even looking at the dress section. You had a lot of respect for girls who could wear dresses all the time, you couldn't stand them. You found a pair of brown pants and a blue blouse.

"You can go into the back there and try it on if you'd like." The clerk said to you.
You took the clothes to the back and but them on. The pants fit perfectly, hugging you body nicely. You knew the pants would get guys to stare, but you didn't mind the attention. You put the blouse on and looked in the mirror. You smiled, stepping out of the back of the store. Arthur, Uncle, and the store clerk all turned to face you. Their eyes hovered for a moment taking in the outfit.
"Hey buddy you'll get flies in your mouth if you keep it open like that." Arthur said the the clerk trying to get him to stop gawking at you.
"Oh uh sorry" he said before ringing up the clothes. Arthur finished paying and you stepped out of the store. "Thank you Arthur, you didn't have to get me this." You said to him.
"No need to thank me. the outfit looks nice by the way." He responded with a smile.
"Thank you, I finally feel like myself." You responded.
You sat down next to Arthur and Uncle to wait for the girls to get back from whatever they were doing. You started to doze off before Mary-Beth came over to greet you.
"I think I've got something good. I snuck into this fancy house, acting like a servant girl. Someone said their sister was taking a trip from New York or somewhere, Train full of rich tourists." She explained.
"I recon we could do it." Uncle said.
"Where's Karen and Tilly?" Arthur asked.
"I think at the Hotel, they were picking up some drunk fellers that they was gonna rob." She responded.
Suddenly you looked over to see Tilly fighting with a man. "Who's that?" You asked.
"No idea." Arthur responded. "Ill go over a figure out what's going on."
"I'll go look in the hotel for Karen." You told him. You both got up and walked over to the Hotel. Arthur went to deal with Tilly as you walked through the doors. "Excuse me, I'm looking for my friend. She came here with a man, blonde." You said the the clerk.

"Yeah I believe she's upstairs in room 2A. Is everything okay?" He asked. Before you could respond you were already headed up the stairs. "No trouble please!" The clerk yelled from downstairs. You walk to the room he told you and you heard a struggle from inside the room. You tried to open the door but it was locked. You kicked open the door to see a half naked man hit Karen. "What the hell are you doing!" You yelled stepping into the room.
Before you could do anything he hit you right in the jaw. You stumbled back. You were so angry that you couldn't feel the pain coming from the spot of your jaw that was already bruising. You pulled your arm back and punched the man square in the nose. He stumbled to the ground, holding his nose. You straddled him, grabbing the collar of his undershirt. "Who taught you it was okay to hit a lady?" You asked him. He just stared at you, blood running down his arms. You pushed him back to the ground and stood up. "Next time I won't be so gentle." You said walking out of the room with Karen.
"Thank you y/n, i don't like being saved but when I need to be.." she trailed off.
"Don't worry about it, us girls need to stick together." You said with a smile.
You walked out of the Hotel and made your way over to the rest of the group. Arthur quickly took notice of the bruises on you and Karen. "Are you guys okay?" He asked.
"All good, typical trip to Valentine." You responded.
"Hey.. who's that guy over there looking at us?" Mary-Beth asked pointing to a man sitting on his horse.
"Weren't you in Blackwater a few weeks back?" He asked.
"Me? No sir." Arthur responded.
"I definitely saw you, with a bunch of fellers." The man continued.
"Listen buddy, come here for a minute." Arthur said walking closer to the man. Before he could get any closer, the man took off on his horse. He looked at uncle. "Get the girls home, I'm going to go have a word with our friend." Arthur said getting on a horse at taking off after the man.
You got into the front of the wagon with Uncle as the girls got in the back. They talked about what they found the whole ride back. You pulled into camp and stepped down off the wagon. Before you could even step foot in camp, everyone's eyes were on you, studying your new attire.
You made you way over to Dutch, who was sitting on his bed, to tell him about what happened in Valentine.
"Dutch, Arthur-" you started, but he cut you off. He stood up and looked at your face with worry. He put his finger on your chin and slowly turned you face to the side, looking at the bruise on your jaw. "Who did this?" He asked.
"It was just some drunk fool, it's fine, but Arthur-" you tried to continue.
"It was a man?" He asked, visibly getting angry.
"Dutch" you said, taking his hand off your face and holding it. "I'm fine I promise. He looks worse than I do." You laughed.
His face became less stiff as he saw you laughing. "Okay good. What happened with Arthur?" He asked.
"Someone recognized him from Blackwater." You told him.
He exhaled. "Arthur will handle it, I'm not worried." He told you. He looked down to see you still holding on to his hand. You saw a smirk appear on his face, which made you quickly remove your hands. "Okay well" you cleared your throat. "I'm going to go do some chores, I'll see you later." You said quickly turning around to leave.
"Y/n" he said before you could get to far. Your turned to face him. "That outfit looks very nice on you." He said with a smile. You smiled in response before turning around, you face turning completely red.
