《Greta Van Fleet Imagines》I Hate You, I Love You (Danny Wagner)

"Okay, we just need a few more things and then we're done." You spoke to the pigtailed toddler sitting in the shopping cart in front of you. You turned the corner in search of juice but what you found nearly took your breath away.
At the other end of the aisle was Danny. He was holding a small basket in his right hand and the other one was intertwined with a girl's. You wanted to turn around and run as far away as possible but for some reason you couldn't take your eyes off him. For the most part he looked the same as the last time you saw him, over two years ago.
Suddenly a loud cry erupted from your daughter as her pacifier fell out of her mouth. Thankfully, you had it clipped to her shirt, so it didn't hit the floor. sighing you put the pacifier back in her mouth. You then noticed Danny look over before he began making his way towards you. You pretended to look for something on the shelves in front of you, hoping he would walk past you. But you knew that wouldn't happen.
"Y/N?" Danny asked hesitantly.
You turned around and came face to face with those brown eyes you missed so much. "Hi Danny." You answered.
"How long has it been? Two years?" He chuckled.
"A little over." You might have been talking to Danny, but you couldn't help but stare at who you assumed was his new girlfriend. She was beautiful. Far more beautiful then you'll ever be.
"Oh, I'm being Rude. Y/N, this is Mackenzi. My girlfriend. Mackenzi this is Y/N. We went to high school together." Danny introduced the two of you.
Even though you already assumed she was his girlfriend it still hurt to hear him say it out loud. But what hurt worse was the way he introduced you. You weren't his ex-girlfriend or the girl that he grew up next door to. You were just some girl from his high school.
"I didn't know you had a child?" Danny questioned. The sound of his voice pulled you back to reality.
"Oh yeah." You hesitated. "Her name's Y/D/N."
"She's adorable." Mackenzi commented.
Just then your daughter began fussing. You pulled out your phone and looked at the time. It was well past her nap time.

"I don't mean to be rude, but it's passed Y/D/N's nap time. I need to get going so I can get her asleep." You interjected.
"No, it's okay." Danny reassured. "It was nice seeing you Y/N."
"Yes, it was nice meeting you." Mackenzi waved as her and Danny turned the corner still holding hands.
Once they were both out of sight you made your way to the checkout. You didn't even bother to see if you had everything on your list. All you knew was that you needed to get out of there.
It was a while later. You had just put your daughter to bed for the night and you settled on the couch of your small apartment. You were taking in the events of today when your phone began ringing. Glancing down you didn't recognize the number. You were about to hit decline, but something made you hit accept instead.
"Hello?" You said almost as a question.
"Y/N, we need to talk." You recognized the voice on the other end as Danny.
"Danny? How did you get my number?" You asked.
"Sam." He responded, and you made a mental note to yell at him later. "But we need to talk" He repeated.
"No, we do not." You huffed.
"You know it's true. We can't keep avoiding each other like this. We live in the same town. We have the same friends. We need to talk about what happened." It was silent for a moment. "Can I come over?" He questioned.
You sighed before answering. "Sure. I guess you're right. We never discussed what happened between us." You gave him your address before hanging up.
Eventually there was a knock. You opened the door and Danny walked inside.
"We just have to be quiet. Y/D/N's sleeping." You spoke as you both made your way to the couch.
"Where do you want to start?" You spoke first.
"Why did you leave?" Danny questioned.
"Why did I leave? Don't you remember anything from our fight?" You retorted.
"I remember you screaming at me for no reason while I tried to pack for tour." Danny huffed. You could tell he was already getting heated. The only time you ever saw him like this was when you had your big fight right before you broke up.

"I had every right to be mad. You were acting like we weren't even together." You threw your hand up in the air to show your frustration.
"What are you talking about?" Danny asked.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You'd rather tell people you were single then say you were dating me. It's almost like you were ashamed." You vented.
"I was not ashamed." Danny huffed as he ran a hand through his hair.
"You most definitely were. We almost never did anything together, even when you were home." You could feel the tears welling up and you prayed they didn't overflow. "Where did you meet Mikayla? When we were still together? Is that why you became so distant?"
"First of all, her name is Mackenzi. And second I met her after we broke up. But I don't see why that matters. ."
"What makes you think I moved on?" You choked.
"Well if you have a child with another guy it's pretty obvious that it didn't take you long to move on." You didn't need to make eye contact to know just how red his face was.
"There is no other guy." You didn't lift your head. You just stared down at your hands as the tears finally fell.
"What? Did he leave? Or do you not know who he even is?"
"It's you dumbass." You snapped looking up at Danny with your tear-stained face.
"What?" Danny wondered.
"There never was another guy when I had Y/D/N. It was always you." You cried.
"So, you're sayingYou knew this whole time and never decided to tell me? Instead you just packed your stuff and left while I boarded a plane." Danny's voice was getting louder and you feared he would wake Y/D/N.
"What was I supposed to do? I was scared. I already thought you were cheating on me or didn't want to be with me. You were on tour for more than half of the year." The tears continued to stream down your cheeks.
"Just tell me one thing. Did you know you were pregnant that night we fought?" Danny demanded.
At first you didn't say anything. But you quickly learned that was a bad idea.
"Answer me." Danny bellowed. His voice echoing off the walls of the tiny apartment, waking Y/D/N.
"Yes." You stuttered.
"Unbelievable." Danny ran his hand through his hair again and paced around the small living room.
You took this opportunity to go check on your daughter. Entering her bedroom, you walked over to her crib and picked her up. You gently bounced her as she cried.
"It's okay baby girl. We're both okay." You said more for yourself then for her.
For a moment you just stood there gently swaying your daughter as tears continued to run down your face. After a few minutes her cries quieted, and you were able to put her down in her crib again. Before leaving the room, you took a couple of seconds to admire your daughter as well as compose yourself.
"I'm sorry." Danny's voice startled you and you spun around wiping your face. He was leaning against the doorframe.
"How long have you been standing there?" You asked.
"Long enough to see you cry while holding our daughter." Danny informed.
You made your way out to the hallway. Danny followed behind and you closed the door to your daughter's room.
"I really am sorry. I never meant to upset you like this. I'm just shocked that's all. I guess I overreacted." Danny admitted.
"I'm sorry too. For everything. I was pregnant and scared. I should have told you instead of jumping to conclusions. I know how shitty it was of me to keep your own child from you. I wouldn't blame you if you hate me." You explained.
"I could never hate you, Y/N." Danny gently took your hand before speaking again. "If you'd allow it, I want to start over. I'd like to be a part of Y/D/N's life."
"What about Mackenzi?" You questioned.
"I think she'll be okay with it. She wouldn't keep me from seeing my own daughter." He smiled wrapping his arms around you.

Office Days
Follow Captain Monday and the Weekdays team as they fight the good fight against the villainous Weekends. Oh, and file form a33-2 before eoq3. Comes with a dash of The Office and Office Space plus a side of Super Hero satire. Office Days is episodic in nature. So each story is standalone and may vary in length and focus. The Monday Case is the first episode and serves mostly to introduce the characters broadly. Comments get +Rep for effort. This setting was intended to be a comic series but I never found an artist for the job... probably for lack of trying. The "art" is for concept only... it took me far too long to make and it's still all sub-par.
