I followed him closely down the hallway, gently brushing my hand against his, peeking up at him to see that he was already smirking back down at me, his eyes moving down to my neck.

"You're still wearing it." He said softly, holding open the doors to the elevator for me. I made my way in, leaning back up against the wall as he followed behind me, his hand brushing back up against mine. Finally I reached over, carefully intertwining my fingers in his.

"I haven't taken it off since you gave it to me." I whispered, playing with the charm between my fingers. His grip on my hand got tighter as he felt around my fingers, no doubt subtly searching for the ring, but stayed quiet when he discovered they were all bare.

"Well, I'm glad you like it."

"I like you." I added, biting down on my lip, feeling my cheeks burn. He shook his head, giggling to himself.

"Jaime.."

"I know, I know.." I sighed, watching as the numbers counted down, my heart dropping at the final bell as he pulled his hand out of mine, leading us out into the lobby. I then felt my body get cold as Jake instantly got up from his chair, making his way over to me. Josh avoided my eyes as I peeked over for help, heading out front with Sam and Danny.

As he got closer, I could see his eyes were puffy and bloodshot, like he had been crying all night. I couldn't bare to look at him. I hated seeing him like this. This wasn't the Jake I remembered. The Jake I knew would have brushed this off and probably had a new girl before the morning.

"Jaime, please can we talk?" He said softly, reluctantly reaching out for me. I backed away, now seeing his face drop.

"Jake, I just.. I don't think-"

"Did you get my messages?"

"I did." I said, avoiding his eyes.

"Can we please just talk about this? We.. we got into a fight, it happens, but that doesn't mean this has to end. We can work through this together." He slowly reached out for me again, carefully taking my hand. I noticed him feeling around my fingers for my ring, his face dropping when he discovered it was gone. But he stayed quiet.

Because he was still wearing his.

And his bracelet.

"I don't think there's anything to talk about, Jake. I think we just.. need some time to ourselves and then-"

"But I don't want time to myself, I only want time with you."

"You know that's not true." I muttered. He stared back at me, his eyes getting wide in disbelief.

"Jaime, how could you say that?"

"Because.. you're fine, you're always fine, and then you find someone else and-"

"Clearly I'm not fine!" He snapped. "And there is no someone else. I want you. I only want you. I've only ever wanted you and.. I'm not just gonna give up on that."

I held my stare on him, feeling my heart start to beat faster the longer he stared back at me with those eyes, those beautiful, mournful eyes.

"You look like you haven't slept." I said. He shrugged.

"Well, I haven't."

"Jake, the whole point of getting the hotel-"

"Was to be with you."

"Was for you to get some sleep."

"I'm fine, Jaime."

"You're clearly not fine, Jake." I snapped. He got quiet again, his eyes never once straying from mine.

"You took your ring off." He said, feeling around my fingers again.

"I.. I did."

"Why?"

"Please don't do this." I whispered, avoiding his eyes again. "Can we just.. get in the van and-"

"And pretend this never happened?"

"That's not.. no, I just-"

"What do you need me to do, Jaime?"

"I need you to give me some space." I finally said. "I just.. I need some time to think, okay?" He nodded, biting down on his lip as he reached for my bag. I pulled it away, shaking my head.

"It's fine, I got it." I said. He reached back over, taking it from my hands and began carrying it out to the van. I sighed, hesitating for a moment before finally following him outside where the rest of the guys had already piled in.

"Jake, why don't you come up here with me." Sam called out from the driver's seat. I was thankful, assuming that Josh had to have said something to him before we came back out.

"Sure." He said plainly, putting my bag in the back before getting into the passenger's side. I slid into the middle, Josh making room before climbing back in behind me, shutting the door behind him.

The drive in was excruciatingly silent, everyone in the van no doubt feeling the tension, whether they were involved in this mess or not. Jake made his way inside alone, while Danny and Josh decided to head down the road for lunch before soundcheck.

"You want me to bring you back anything?" Josh whispered to me, grabbing one of his bags. "You haven't eaten yet." I shook my head, smirking back at him.

"No, it's okay, thank you." I said. He nodded, smiling back and holding his stare on me for a moment before Danny grabbed him by the coat, practically pulling him down the sidewalk. I waited for them to disappear into one of the shops before finally getting out, seeing Sam smoking out back.

"How'd you manage to get yourself into this mess?" He laughed, taking a drag. I shrugged, avoiding his eyes as I stood next to him, leaning back against the building. He held out his cigarette, offering it to me. I thought about it for a moment before eventually shaking my head.

"Smart." He joked, taking another drag.

"Has Jake always smoked?" I asked. He shrugged, giving me neither a here or there answer.

"Not really, only when he's stressed. But he's cut back a lot."

"I've never seen him smoke before. Not until the other night." He nodded, giggling to himself.

"There's a lot he doesn't want you to see, Jaime."

"W-what do you mean?"

"I mean.. he knows you hate it. You mentioned it one night, at one of our parties, so.. he decided to try and quit. And, you know, he slips up here and there but.. overall, he never wanted you to see him smoking. He didn't want to give you a reason not to like him."

"So, you've always known?" I asked, starting to feel more and more guilty about all of this. Maybe I was being irrational. Maybe he really was trying.

"I mean.." He laughed. "We always suspected. He really didn't shut up about you, but I guess.. sometimes we just figured.. I don't know, we were all friends. But then Leah told me how dumb I was being and well.. ever since she pointed it out.. I'd be blind not to see it."

"We.. broke up last night." I blurted out. He nodded again, taking another drag.

"Oh trust me, I know." He muttered, peeking over at me. "Can I ask why?"

"I don't know, it just.. all of a sudden, it felt.. wrong, and.. he says one thing, and then.. he means another and it's like.. we're always fighting now and it's nothing like how it was when we were back home."

"Well, of course it's not. We're not back home. It's gonna be different and it's gonna be hard, but if you love someone, you figure it out." I nodded, avoiding his eyes.

"But.. you do love someone.. don't you?" He eventually asked. I could hear the smile in his voice. I peeked back up at him, trying my hardest to contain my grin, but it was impossible when thinking about him.

"I do." I whispered.

"You always have." He sighed, looking down at my neck. "The both of you have."

"I hope so."

"Oh, Jaime. If only you had any idea.." My heart jumped.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean.. you both had it right all along. I knew it was only a matter of time before you two found your way back to each other. Josh can be a little.. heavy on the feelings, I know. And.. maybe that scared you a little bit in the beginning, I could understand. He's.. a lot, but.. he's a lot in a good way, in the kind of way where.. you're never going to find someone like him ever again, Jaime. And maybe I'm being biased because he's my brother, but.. they're both my brothers and.. I know Jake is hurting but.. he'll be okay. I promise. You don't have to worry about him. And that's not to say he doesn't love you, because.. well.. he does. But Josh would do anything for you, and I know that for a fact. I.. I can only hope that I can love someone as much as Josh loves you because.. it is.. incredible to see someone feel so much."

I couldn't help smile, trying my hardest to hide my eyes that were now filling with happy tears, quickly wiping them on my sleeve.

"Who knew you were so poetic, Sam." I laughed. He nodded, playfully shoving me.

"Yeah, well.. he brings it out of all of us. So.. if you two were ever thinking about-"

"I want to."

"Then I think you should."
