《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 125: Safe Haven

"You know, I hear that make-up sex is the best kind.." I laughed, gently kissing up his neck as I started sliding off his jacket, tossing it onto the floor of the van. His grip on me got tighter, pulling me in closer. My heart jumped at the sound of his quiet laughter in my ear, tangling his fingers in my hair as he pulled me back into a passionate kiss.
I would spend the rest of my life doing whatever I could to hear that laugh, knowing that I was the reason behind it.
"And what the hell do you know about that?" He smirked, kissing me again. "We didn't break up. We're never breaking up." I couldn't help but smile, pulling him into a series of kisses until his lips curled into a giddy grin.
"You promise?" I sighed, leaning my forehead against his, staring into his dazed eyes. He nodded, staring back at me as he gently caressed my face.
"I hate to break it to you, Jaime but.. you're never gonna get to experience make-up sex. Because you're never gonna be single again." I bit down on my lip, trying my best to contain my ecstatic grin.
"Well.. maybe we can fight a little just to-"
"Absolutely not." He laughed, his hands moving down to my neck, pulling me back into a deep kiss.
"Well, whatever kind we're gonna have, I want it now." I whispered, my lips moving down to his neck, kissing him harder. I could feel his heart beating faster as I moved my hands up his chest.
"Jaime.." He sighed, giggling to himself. "They're gonna be back any minute."
"We don't need that long.."
"You know I like to take my time with you." He said, smirking back up at me. I felt my cheeks burn, my entire body now feeling like it was on fire.
"Besides.." He added. "There's.. something else we need to talk about."
I leaned away, keeping my arms wrapped around his neck as he stared back at me, a gentle smile still on his lips.

"What is it?"
"So, Josh is gonna think that.. we broke up." He muttered, biting down on his lip. "So.. we kinda have to keep that going."
"What do you mean?" He shrugged, looking away.
"Well, it was his idea, and-"
"He told you to break up with me?!" I snapped. He shook his head, reaching back out for me, gently caressing his face.
"Jaime, he just.. I understand where he was coming from, he just wants what's best for you too, and.. well-"
"He wants what's best for me so he tried to hurt me.."
"He didn't want to hurt you, Jaime. He would never want to hurt you. And.. sometimes, you know, I just can't help but feel like maybe he would be better-"
"Don't say that." I sighed, gently combing my fingers through his hair. He stared back at me with dazed eyes, his fingers gently gliding up and down my arm. I loved how easy it was for him to calm me down with just a touch..
"So then.. what does that mean?" I finally asked. He held his stare on me, his face dropping like I should already know. I did.
"I don't want to sneak around again." I groaned. "I want to be able to love you as openly as everyone else gets to love their person."
"I know, and.. so do I but-"
"So then I don't want to do this."
"Jaime, I said I would do this. For him, and.. for you. And if he finds out that I didn't, well.. I just think that things will be so much easier if.. he doesn't know." I stayed quiet, now looking away. He didn't hesitate to turn my head back to face him.
"I mean.. it could be fun." He smirked, his eyes moving back down to my lips. "Think about how much fun we had before." I tried my best to hide my flustered grin, feeling my face get hot again. I playfully rolled my eyes, looking away again as he slowly tangled his fingers into my hair, pulling me in as his lips gently grazed my neck.

"And if you want, we can count this as our first fight.." He giggled, his kisses getting harder. "Then when this is all over, we can make up better than we ever have before." I felt my heart jump, instantly pulling him into a passionate kiss. His lips curled into a smile as his hands moved up, caressing my face, pulling me in closer.
"Fine.." I sighed, kissing him back harder.
"What was that?" He asked, quietly giggling to himself, pulling me back into a series of playful kisses. I couldn't help but smile.
"I said fine." He sighed, brushing the hair out of my face.
"I love you, Jaime Adams." He whispered, his smile growing. "Now.. get off of me before they get back." I bit down on my lip, playfully rolling my eyes as I reluctantly climbed off of him. He peeked over, keeping his eyes on me as I leaned my head back on the seat, holding my stare on him.
"I love you." I mouthed, unable to hide my grin. He leaned over, pulling me into one more quick kiss before reaching for the door.
"I probably shouldn't be here when they get back." He said. "Chances are after that.. blowout we were bound to have.. the both of us would've wanted our alone time." I nodded, holding my stare on him as he climbed out on the van.
"Okay.." I sighed. Before he left, he grabbed his jacket from the floor, carefully draping it back over me, leaning in and kissing my forehead. I quickly reached out for him, grabbing his hand and pulling him back in. He stopped, leaning back against the van, just as unwilling to leave.
"You know, sometimes I wish we could go back to the beginning." I sighed, intertwining our fingers. "Back before.. everything was so complicated."
"I don't." He said simply.
"Why not?" I asked. His smile grew as he reached up, gently running his thumb across my cheek.
"Because.. I can actually breathe around you now." He giggled, his cheeks burning red. "I was.. terrified. I had never been so nervous around someone before, but now.. you make me feel so loved, so.. I'm not scared to be myself around you anymore. I don't.. overthink everything and.. worry if I'm gonna say something stupid or embarrassing because I know that.. even if I do, and chances are.. I will.. I know you'll still love me, just like I'll always love you. You're.. my safe haven. All my life I've just wanted to feel.. safe, and now I do.. with you."
I couldn't help but smile, feeling tears starting to come to my eyes again. I was thankful for all the happy tears he's ever made me cry.
"I know I can't give you a lot, but.. if I could give you anything, I'm so happy I can make you feel safe." His smile grew as he leaned into a gentle kiss.
"Jaime, you give me everything, whether you realize it or not. If I have you, I don't need anything else." I bit down on my lip, trying to contain my smile.
"You really can't expect me to let you walk away after saying something like that to me." He flashed me a wide grin, my heart jumping at the sound of his laughter again.
"I'll be back, but.. you're gonna have to act like you're at least a little mad at me, okay?" He joked, playfully rubbing his nose against mine.
"I'll try." I said, holding my stare on him as he finally pulled away, carefully shutting the door behind him. I watched as he slowly made his way back into the venue, peeking back at me with a smile before going inside.
It wasn't going to be easy, I knew that. You never hear about relationships on tour that actually worked out, but we were different. And deep down, I knew that. There wasn't anything that I could see coming between us, not if we could survive this.
And then my heart jumped at the sound of the venue door opening again, Josh making his way back towards the van. Alone.
