《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 104: A Long Shot

Thankfully by the time we made it over to his house, most of them had already finished eating. Josh and Sam now already up in their rooms, leaving just Jake and I with his parents. I couldn't even remember the last time I had eaten with them, crazy to think considering how often they'd invite us over when we were younger.
"So you two really seemed to have fun at the wedding." His mom said, flashing him a smile. "I don't think I've seen Jake dance that much in years." He playfully rolled is eyes, his cheeks burning red.
"I dance all the time, what are you talking about?" He said plainly. She shook her head, sitting down across from us.
"Not like that."
"Well.. it was a celebration." I felt him move his leg over under the table, brushing it up against mine. I tried my best to contain my smile.
"It was nice to see Katie again too." She added. "Her and Josh seemed to have a nice time." Jake nodded, staying quiet as he peeked over at me. I could only imagine what they had talked about when I wasn't around, regarding our whole.. situation. I know it wasn't ideal, but.. it was what it was now.
"Yeah, I.. I think he had fun." Jake said softly, finally breaking the silence. I was thankful.
"How is your mom doing, Jaime? We missed her." I nodded.
"Yeah, she wished she could have been there. She's.. well, she's doing okay. No progress yet, but.. nothing is getting worse so, that's good."
"That is good. Well, once she feels up to it, she's more than welcome to come over anytime, the both of you. We're gonna be lonely once the boys leave, so.. we'll always welcome company." My stomach dropped. I knew there was no way I could step foot in here if I knew they weren't going to be here. But I appreciated the offer.
I knew she was going to miss them just as much.
"So, what are your plans for the rest of the night?" She asked. Jake peeked over at me.
"Jaime and I were just gonna.. hang out in my room for a little while until she has to go."
"Well, that's nice. Your father and I were just gonna watch a movie if you wanted to join us."
"Um.. well.." He started. She laughed, shaking her head.
"Don't worry, I know you'd rather spend time alone." He smirked back at her, his cheeks burning red again. They grabbed their plates, bringing them over to the sink before disappearing into the living room.
"You just wanna hang out in your room?" I asked. He shrugged, smiling back over at me.

"I just.. want time with you. I don't care what we do." I leaned my head on his shoulder, a big smile escaping my lips. I loved just how much he could enjoy the simple things.
"Could you play for me again?" I asked. He nodded.
"Whatever you want."
After we finished eating, Jake grabbed both of our plates, bringing them over to the sink. He smiled back at me, motioning towards the stairs. I didn't hesitate to follow him closely as he quickly lead us up to his room, shutting and locking the door behind us.
I plopped down onto his bed like it was my own, staring up at him as he leaned back against his door.
"So.. my mom said.. if I wanted to.. well.. I could stay over tonight. If.. if that's okay." His eyes instantly lit up, his smile growing.
"Do you want to?" He asked. I nodded, biting down on my lip, feeling my body get hot.
"Well, then you need something more comfortable to change into." He said, going into his dresser, pulling out an old t-shirt, handing it over to me.
"Here.. it's one of my favorites." My heart jumped. It was embarrassing how many times I had thought about him in this shirt. It was plain dark grey with little holes towards the bottom. He wore it all the time, and I dreaded the day I would see one of his girlfriends wearing it, but thankfully.. they never did.
And now.. it was mine.
"Thank you." I said, taking it from him. He watched as I instantly changed into it, moving in closer as I reached out for him. He crawled over me, leaning into a passionate kiss, gently tangling his fingers in my hair.
"You look good in it." He whispered, his gentle kisses moving down to my neck.
"Only because it's yours."
"You look good in everything, Jaime."
"Stop it." He hid his face in my neck again, giggling to himself as he rolled over next to me. I propped my head up onto my hand, staring over at him as he gazed back at me with those beautiful eyes.
"Jake.." I sighed, gently running my fingers down his cheek. He reached over, grabbing me by the waist, pulling me in closer.
"Yeah?"
"Are you.. excited to leave? You just.. I mean, I know.. we talked about what it means for us but.. for you. Are you excited?" He hesitated for a moment before eventually nodding.
"I am excited, I just.." He stopped, his fingers slowly gliding under my shirt. "I'm gonna miss you so much and.. that overpowers excited."
"I don't want to ruin this for you." He shook his head, giggling to himself.

"You could never ruin anything, I just wish.. you could be there with me. I want you to see me like that, after all those years in the garage, I just want you to be proud of me.. like.. all those years weren't a waste."
"You have no idea how proud I am of you. I wish I could be there too, but.. I'll always be with you." I said, reaching over for his matching bracelet.
I loved that he never took it off.
Neither did I.
"You know.. guys always think.. going on tour, and.. different girls every night, that that's the dream but.. I am so happy I have you going into all of this."
"You'll always have me, Jake." He pulled me into a passionate kiss, his hands slowly moving down to my neck, pulling me up against him. I kissed him back harder, slowly climbing back over him, gently running my fingers up his arms and intertwining our fingers. He stared up at me with dazed eyes, a lovestruck grin on his lips.
"I love you so much." I sighed, gently brushing the hair out of his face.
"Jaime, I've never felt like this about anyone before." I bit down on my lip, feeling my heart beat faster.
"Me either." His smile grew as he reached up for me, gently caressing my face.
"Everyone says that.. love is scary but.. I've.. I've never felt.. safer.. than I do with you." Tears started filling my eyes, my chest getting tight. My heart had never felt so full.
"Me too." I whispered, lying back down next to him, nuzzling my face into his neck. He wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight.
"And.. because of that.." I started. "I.. I want to talk to you about something." He backed away, staring back over at me.
"What is it?"
"I've.. I've just been thinking, well.. about what.. I want to do. And.. I think.. I want to get into screenwriting." He stayed quiet, holding his stare on me.
"The other day, helping Josh with his film making, I just.. it felt like something I could really get into, and.. well, maybe not the actual filming part but.. the storytelling aspect of it. I just.. I think that's something that.. maybe I could be good at. And maybe.. him and I could work together, so I would have someone, but.. I don't know. I just think that.. well, you'll have this and.. while you're gone.. I could have that." He nodded, his silence now excruciating until his lips eventually curled into a smile.
"I think that's a great idea." He sighed, pulling me in, kissing my forehead. I wrapped my arms around him, lying my head on his chest.
"You do?"
"Yeah, you could write about us." He giggled. "I always thought we were like a fairytale." I couldn't help but laugh, playfully hitting him.
But.. he wasn't wrong.
We were my favorite love story.
"I will support whatever you want to do, Jaime. And.. you'd have him too, and.. t-that.. that could be nice.. right?" He said reluctantly. I nodded.
"Y-yeah." But.. I could tell he still had some doubts. "But.. it'll be a lot of money, so.. I figured.. maybe I could look into.. a winter semester, and.. maybe he could too because by then.. the tour will be over, and.. well, it would be nice to know someone. That's.. that's only if I got in."
He was quiet again, holding his vacant stare on me. I could feel my heart beating faster, just wanting him to say something.
"So then, after the tour.. the two of you would leave?" He asked, his voice now quieter then before. Sadder. I shrugged, avoiding his eyes.
"If we got in. And.. I don't see why he wouldn't. He's.. amazing. But.. I don't know, it kind of feels like a long shot for me, but.. it's.. it's still worth a shot, right?" He nodded, gently caressing my face again.
"I don't think it's a long shot. I think.. you can do anything you want. Anything you would write would be.. beautiful. But.. especially if it's about us. And.. if you need help, in.. whatever way.. I want to help you. How much would it-"
"No, Jake." I laughed, pulling him into a long kiss. "I don't want your money." He smirked back at me, shaking his head.
"You're impossible. Why can't you ever just let me help you?"
"Because.. you're not paying for me to go to college."
"Well, I never had to pay for myself so.. it should go to someone." I sighed, pulling him into another long kiss. He shook his head, his lips curling into a smile.
"You're not gonna distract me." He laughed. "No matter how much it works." I pulled him back in, kissing him harder, running my hands up his shirt. I felt him sigh, his heart beating faster.
"Can we just.. talk about this later?" I whispered, gently kissing up his neck. His grip on me got tighter, his hands moving down to my hips, slowly moving to the button on my jeans, carefully opening it.
"Fine." He sighed. "But.. only if you can be quiet."

Making a difference
Harry Potter FanFiction: Hannah Longbottom liked to watch the people who entered the Wizarding World via the small, walled courtyard behind the Leaky Cauldron for a reason: During her not so long life, she had learned about three different boys who had entered the Wizarding World alone, leaving behind a life so horrible she could barely imagine. One of them, who became a friend of hers, had gone through great hardships to become a hero, one of the greatest wizards the Wizarding World had ever seen. One of them, who had been her teacher, had become cold and bitter, and no one had ever recognized what amazing talents he could have offered, until it had been too late. One of them, the monster she had helped to fight during the Battle of Hogwarts, had become the most dreaded, most dangerous, and most deadly man Great Britain had ever seen, and yet it could have all been different, if someone had just tried to make that difference early enough in that life, if he had not boarded the train to Hogwarts all alone. Already posted at Devianart and AO3, I've included a link to RoyalRoad on my profiles there.
