《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 89: Something For You

I would miss our nights of playing house. It made me realize how badly I wanted the mundane things in life with that one person, because with them they were anything but. Never did I think eating Chinese food in bed would make me as happy as it did when I did it with him.

And now with him leaving, I appreciated every minute. Staring at him a little bit longer than usual, kissing him one more time before he left, holding onto his hand a little tighter wherever we went, taking the time to be grateful for every moment I had left.

"So, what's in the bag?" I finally asked, peeking over at my desk where he had strategically left it, just out of reach. He smirked back at me, peeking over his tiny white box of fried rice.

"You want it now? You can't even wait until I'm done?" I shook my head, crawling over to him.

"You could eat all night. What is it?" He sighed, playfully rolling his eyes as he leaned over, grabbing the bag and brought it over, carefully placing it in my lap.

"So this.. this is something for you to have.. to think of me when I'm gone." He said softly.

"You know I'm always going to be thinking about you. I don't need a gift." I said. He shrugged, his smile growing.

"And that's exactly why you deserve one." He motioned towards the bag, taking another bite of his food. I hesitated for a moment before finally picking it up, pulling out the tissue paper to see a small blue velvet box at the bottom of the bag. As I pulled it out, I carefully opened it.

"I just wanted you to have a reminder.. so every time you look at it, you know I'm thinking about you too." He said, lifting up his arm to show me his wrist that had the same bracelet. I took it out of the box, examining it closely to see he had had it engraved.

"No matter how far apart, you will always have my heart."

I tried my best to hold in my tears, but it became impossible when I flipped it over to the other side.

"I love you."

"No L-word anymore?" I giggled, wiping my eyes. He shook his head, leaning in closer.

"No.." He sighed. "I love you, Jaime. And you deserve to hear it. And.. read it." He laughed. I leaned over, pulling him into a long kiss.

"I love it. Thank you. I love you." I said. "Can you help me put it on?" He nodded, placing his food down on my desk, carefully wrapping and clasping it around my wrist.

"What does yours say?" I asked, peeking over at his.

"So, I wanted you to pick what mine says, so mine is blank right now, but before I leave we can go back to get mine done too. Whatever you want."

"How did I get so lucky?" I sighed, gently running my fingers through his hair. His smile grew as he leaned into another gentle kiss.

"I'm sorry it took me so long, I just-"

"It's okay. All that matters is your mine now." I said, climbing into his lap, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him into a passionate kiss.

I felt his hands slowly make their way up my body until they were gently caressing my neck, carefully moving up to my face, pulling me in closer.

"Jaime.." He sighed, leaning his forehead against mine.

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you something?" I nodded.

"Did.. did anything happen before I got down to the river?" I instantly shook my head.

"No. Nothing happened." He nodded, holding his stare on me.

"Did you want anything to happen?" I shook my head again, holding him closer.

"No."

"Okay. It's just that.. I know.. what you guys have-"

"Jake, he's.. he's my best friend, but.. I'm in love with you. I think.. I always have been." He bit down on his lip, giving me a gentle smile.

"Me too." He whispered, gently running his fingers across my cheek. "I just.. I never want to feel like.. the only reason you're here is because-"

"I'm here because I want to be." I said simply, leaning in, kissing him again. He didn't hesitate to kiss me back harder, tangling his fingers in my hair again.

"C-can I.. ask you something?" I added, moving away again. He nodded.

"Of course."

"H-how.. how do you feel about me?" He giggled to himself.

"Is it still not obvious?" I couldn't help but smile.

"I mean.. how do I make you feel? What.. what is love.. to you?" His smile grew as he took a minute, holding his stare on me.

"You make me feel.. safe." He said softly, leaning in, gently kissing my cheek. "I feel like.. I can tell you anything, and I've never felt this comfortable with someone before. It's.. it's just.. so nice to finally be able to.. let my guard down and just.. be happy knowing that.. you'd never hurt me. Or.. I hope." He laughed. "But.. I'd give you everything, anything. With everyone else, every day I just felt like.. I couldn't be myself. Like.. I didn't know what to expect. But with you, I know you'll be there for me, just like I'll always be there for you. And.. I hope I make you feel this way too. I hope.. you're comfortable enough with me to trust me like this. Because I want that for us."

I held my stare on him, unsure of what to say.

Love to him.. was comfort.

"But.. do I.. I mean, is it still.. exciting?" I asked nervously.

"Of course it is. But.. I love all the other parts too. Like this. I've never met a girl I'd be happy just staying home with, eating in bed, just enjoying each other's company. Sometimes with you, I feel like.. an old married couple already and.. I love it. It's all I've ever wanted. Just.. the simple things. Getting to enjoy the simple things with the one you love makes them feel.. not so simple."

I nodded, staying quiet.

"Speaking of old married couples.." He said softly. "I was wondering if.. we could talk about the wedding again." I felt my cheeks burn.

"What about it?"

"I know.. you had said that.. you wanted to go as a group but.. I really want you to be my date. And.. just mine. I.. I've never had that before and.. I feel like.. with touring and everything that's about to happen, I won't get to experience this again for.. a long time, and.. I want to experience it with you. I want.. to get our outfits together, and go together, and sit together, and.. have our names together on our place card and.. dance together and then.. if you're comfortable with it.. I could.. get us a room.. at the hotel." My heart jumped. A room. That could mean..

"Now.. that doesn't have to mean anything, not if you don't want it to, but.. well, I mean.. I know what typically goes on at weddings, especially.. after and.. well.. maybe if you were ready, we could see.. how the night goes and maybe-"

"Okay." I said, feeling my heart beat faster.

"O-okay?" He asked, peeking back up at me. I nodded, biting down on my lip.

"I want to be your date." His smile grew.

"You do?"

"Of course I do." I sighed, pulling him into another passionate kiss.

I felt him sigh, as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me in closer. His lips moved to my neck, kissing me harder as he carefully lifted me up, pulling me under the blankets and positioning himself over me. I reached up, holding his face in my hands, kissing him back harder as I felt his hands slowly moving down my body until they stopped at my pants, slowly unbuttoning them and sliding them off. I moved away, staring back up at him as I felt my heart start to race. He stared back nervously.

"Can I.. try something?" He asked reluctantly. It felt like my whole body was on fire.

"W-what?"

"I just.. I want to do something.. for you." He said softly, motioning back down. I hesitated for a moment, suddenly nervous, having never done that before, but after everything he had said.. I realized that.. I felt safe with him too.

I nodded, feeling him slide off my underwear before disappearing under the blankets.
