《You're the One - Part 1 || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 199: We Made This

"You know you make me nervous when you start pacing." I laughed, leaning back in my chair. Jake peeked over at me, making his way back from across the waiting room.
"Sorry." He giggled, sitting down close. "I just.. I hope everything's okay."
"I'm sure everything's fine." I assured him, gently squeezing his leg. His smile grew as he reached over, grabbing my hand, intertwining our fingers.
"They're not gonna tell us anything we don't already know. It's way too early for that. This is all just routine." He nodded, looking over at me, giving me a gentle smile.
"Still." He sighed, shrugging. "How are you so calm?" I gently rubbed my thumb over his hand.
"Well, one of us has to be." I laughed, leaning over, kissing his cheek. "You can take the reins when I freak out later." He nodded, flashing me a wide grin.
"Deal."
"Jess?"
We both looked over, Jake jumping up first, squeezing my hand tighter as he lead me towards the doorway. I couldn't help but smile, glancing up at him. It was also so easy to stay calm when he took control. I always felt so taken care of. Maybe this wouldn't be so hard after all.
"Right this way." She instructed, guiding us into the first room.
"Thank you." He said, giving her a quick smile before she left. I sat down, watching as he began pacing again, going over to the shelf of pamphlets.
"I swear, if you bring home one more of those.." I laughed. He smirked back at me.
"Well, have you been reading them?" He asked. I bit down on my lip, shaking my head.
"Why would I do that when I have you? You're gonna be an expert on everything baby related by the time this one arrives." He nodded, flipping through them.
"And then the next one will be a breeze."

"Can I have this one first before you go and plan for our next one?" I asked, shaking my head. He rolled his eyes, making his way back over, sitting down close.
"Hello!" He heard as the door opened again. "I'm Dr. Hart, but you can just call me Alena." She said, giving us a welcoming smile. She leaned up against the counter, flipping through her clipboard.
"So it says here we're just doing a routine check-up, just to ensure that things are moving smoothly." She said. I nodded.
"And we were wondering if you could tell us just how far along she is, she's taken tests before, and the first two had come up negative, but, you know.." Jake added, his cheeks burning. Her smile grew as she looked over at him.
"And you just want to make sure, don't worry Dad, we're gonna get everything figured out today. Momma's gonna be just fine." He peeked over at me with a satisfied grin.
"Alright, so when was your last period?"
"I'd say about.. four weeks ago. To be honest, it's hard to even tell what day it is anymore out here." I said. Jake nodded.
"We're on tour. I'm in a band, and she's our photographer, so.. life's also been.. pretty hectic lately. So, I just want to make sure that she's also getting what she needs and whatnot.. vitamins and such.." Alena nodded, smirking over at me. I bit down on my lip, containing my smile.
"We're gonna make sure she's all set to go today, don't you worry." He nodded.
"Okay, well typically, we'd do an ultrasound at around 7-8 weeks, but we can do one for you today, and that can at least give us an idea of where we're at and what we're working with." She said, motioning towards the scanning table. "You can hop right on up here."
I hesitated, peeking over at him before getting up onto the table. Jake quickly followed, leaning in close on the opposite side, watching attentively as she lifted my shirt.

"Okay, this will be a little cold, but not too bad." She laughed, applying the gel to my stomach. We both looked up at the screen, not having a clue of what we were looking at. After a few minutes she finally stopped.
"Aha!" She said cheerfully. "And there we have a baby!"
I looked closely as she pointed to a tiny little blob, flashing me an excited smile.
"So, like I said. It's typically much too early for an ultrasound, we can't really get a reading on anything just yet, but based on the size, it appears you're about 5-6 weeks."
My stomach dropped.
5-6 weeks?
"H-how long?" Jake asked, staring back at her wide-eyed. She giggled, looking around for a few more minutes before wiping me clean of the gel.
"My guess is the previous tests you've taken gave you a false negative. Can be tricky and sometimes doesn't come up on the urine tests when it's so early on. But how exciting! We're closer than we thought!"
Jake held his stare on the screen for a moment before turning back to me, giving me a subtle smile as he gently ran his fingers through my hair.
"Can we.. um.. have that?" He asked, pointing to the screen. Alena smiled, nodding.
"Of course. I can have it printed out for you." She said sweetly, getting up and heading out into the hallway. He sighed, turning back to me.
"Okay.." He said softly. I reached up, gently touching his cheek.
"See.. everything is fine." He nodded, leaning in, gently kissing me on the lips.
Alena came back in, handing the ultrasound photo to Jake, flashing me a smile.
"So.." She said, turning back to her computer. "It seems we're looking at a due date of October 24th." I looked up at Jake who sighed, smirking back at me.
"Scorpio." He giggled. I shook my head, reaching out for the photo.
It was so tiny. It was barely anything yet.
But it was everything.
"What do you have against Scorpios?" Alena laughed, turning back to us. Jake shook his head.
"Nothing." He said softly, gently touching my stomach. "This one is going to be perfect."
"You two are very sweet. I know you said you're touring so, I wish you all the luck. But please, take a card and feel free to call if you have any questions or concerns. We're always here to help. And if you're ever back in the area.." Jake nodded.
"Thank you so much."
I hopped down from the table, gathering my things as Jake reached over, gently taking my hand, intertwining our fingers. I peeked up at him as we silently walked down the hallway, back out into the parking lot. The entire time a huge grin was spread across his face.
"You're so cute." I whispered. "I hope they have your smile." He shook his head, his cheeks burning red as he opened the passenger door for me. I hopped in, watching him admiringly as he made his way over to his side.
"So, where are you gonna hang it?" I asked as he beamed at the photo again.
"Everywhere." He laughed, unable to take his eyes off of it. I understood the feeling, unable to take my eyes off of him either.
"We made this, Jess." He giggled, bringing it closer to his face.
"We did." I laughed, reaching over, gently running my fingers through his hair. He leaned over, holding my face in his hand as he pulled me into a long kiss.
"5-6 weeks.." He finally said, looking back down at the photo. "W-when was that?" I stopped to think, counting backwards. Mid January. My heart jumped.
The night he proposed.
