《You're the One - Part 1 || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 164: Pretty Special

"I guess we will." I snapped, glaring back at him as I got up. His face dropped as I turned away, quickly making my way back to the house. I could feel tears come to my eyes but I quickly wiped them away. This wasn't something worth crying over. I had just gotten engaged, less than twenty-four hours ago, and my supposed best friend couldn't even be happy for me without trying to make me second guess myself.
This was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of my life, and I wasn't going to let anyone ruin it. That wasn't fair to me. If this is how he wanted to be, then fine. But I didn't have to deal with it.
When I got back inside, I saw Jake leaning over Ronnie's shoulder as she basically began to plan the entire wedding for us. I was happy to have her. Jake looked over as he heard the door open, giving me a questioning look. I shrugged, going over and taking his hand. His smile grew as I lead him down the hallway to his bedroom.
"You know I'm always in the mood for you, but don't you think we should wait for them to not be right outside?" He laughed, following me closely. I giggled to myself, shaking my head as I pulled him into his room, shutting the door behind us.
"You're cute." I said softly, going over, plopping down on his bed. He held his stare on me for a moment, eventually making his way over, lying down close.
"So, what happened?" He asked, gently running his fingers through my hair. I shook my head, laying down on his chest, wrapping my arm around him.
"Okay." He whispered, pulling me closer.
"I don't get why he's being like this." I muttered. I felt him nod, his hand moving to my back as he gently ran his fingers up and down.

"Well, if.. if I was in his position, I can say.. I wouldn't exactly be thrilled either." He giggled. I smirked up at him.
"It's just.. it's not fair."
"I know." He said softly. "And I mean, I know it's not the same but.. I mean, we are getting married, why.. why can't.. I be your best friend?" He asked reluctantly. I peeked up at him, my smile growing. He bit down on his lip, his cheeks burning. I sat back up to face him, holding his face in my hand, gently rubbing my thumb across his cheek.
"I.. I can be whatever you need, Jess. I want to be your person.. in every sense of the word. I should be able to be.. your everything, right?"
I couldn't help but smile, pulling him into a long kiss. I felt his lips curl into a wide grin as he reached up, gently tangling his fingers in my hair, kissing me back.
"You're right." I sighed, leaning my forehead against his. He sat up, grabbing me by the waist, pulling me onto his lap.
"And you are, Jake. It's just.. you have friends outside of me. And, I love you, but.. I need someone outside of you too. And.. since we're gonna be living here, it'll get lonely for me if I don't have my own friends too." He nodded, holding his gaze on me as he reached out, gently intertwining his fingers into mine.
"I understand." He said softly, lifting our hands up, kissing the top of mine. "But.. I can still be your best friend, because.. well, you're mine."
My heart jumped as I pulled him into another kiss. He didn't hesitate to reach up, caressing my cheek, kissing me back.
"Yeah.. you're mine too." I sighed, wrapping my arms around his neck. He leaned in, gently rubbing his nose against mine before pulling me into another passionate kiss.

"And you know.." He said, his smile growing. "Maybe.. maybe Ronnie could come on the road with us. If she's up to it. She seems more excited than the both of us about all this wedding stuff and.. that'll give you someone.. outside of the four of us." He shrugged. I nodded.
"That would be nice."
"And I'd kinda prefer you have a girl friend rather than-"
"Yeah, I know, I know.." I sighed, pulling him back in. He giggled to himself, wrapping his arms around me, flipping me back over onto the bed. I couldn't help but laugh, clinging onto him as he covered my face in kisses, positioning himself over me.
"I just.. I want you to have what every other girl gets to have during this time. I just want you to be happy." He said softly, pushing the hair out of my face.
"I am happy." I said, staring back up at him. His smile grew as he leaned down, his gentle kisses moving down from my lips, across my cheek, up my neck, his hands tracing their way up my arms, tightly intertwining his fingers within mine again.
"And.. I don't care what anyone says, I'm happy with my choices." I sighed, clinging onto him as his kisses got harder.
"Why, what are they saying?" He laughed, staring back down at me. I shook my head, my eyes now in a daze as he met mine.
"Nothing.. it doesn't matter."
"You know, if you want.." He giggled, rolling back over, propping his head up on his hand to face me. "We can go on like a.. a friend date.. so you can get the full experience. We never really did that. We kinda just.. jumped right into it." My cheeks burned as my smile grew.
"Yeah, I guess I just couldn't resist you." I joked. He rolled his eyes, smirking back at me.
"So, what do you say? Then you'll know what it's like to be friends with me." I bit down on my lip, staring back up at him.
"And.. what would this 'friend date' entail?" I asked.
"Well.. typically, friends will go get something to eat.. they definitely don't talk about their feelings for each other.. and they really don't touch. Though, I may hug you at the end. And you absolutely do not come back to my room afterwards." He laughed. I shook my head, containing my smile.
"You know, I think I changed my mind. I don't think I want to be friends with you." I laughed. "You're taking all of my favorite things off the table." He flashed me a wide grin, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me up against him.
"Yeah, you're right." He sighed. "It really is impossible to go backwards, isn't it?" I nodded, staring back at him.
I hated that I was starting to understand Sam's point.
"So then how about a real date where that's all I get to do?" He smirked, pulling me into a gentle kiss. "And then I would definitely bring you back to my room after." I pulled him into another kiss, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"I'd like that." I sighed, pulling him into another series of kisses. My heart jumped as he laughed, hiding his face in my neck. His laughter was one of my favorite sounds in the world.
"We haven't had many real dates, have we?" I asked. His smile grew, his cheeks burning red.
"And yet, you still agreed to marry me." He laughed. "You should want more for yourself." I shook my head, getting lost in his eyes once again.
"Yeah." I sighed. "You must be pretty special."

8 192Beatrice Santello
An adult imagining of Beatrice Santello's life prior to the events of Night in the Woods. There are no explicit depictions of sex here, though there are obviously adult themes and situations involving it. I wasn't going to post it to Royalroad as I didn't think Fanfiction was okay here - but now I see it is and I am quite convinced it is the best work I've ever done yet, I've got to see what any fans of NitW think about it! The first chapter was originally written as a short vignette and wasn't intended to be continued into a full blown story. It was just intended to be moody and evocative. Even though anyone that has played Night in the Woods has a good idea how this must end, I hope it will still be worth the read. Also, since I've finished writing it, I'm going to post it as one big chapter dump all at once. Cover drawing by GreasyMojo and colored by me (with permission!). I don't think it should be too risque on it's own but I suppose I'll soon find out.
