《You're the One - Part 1 || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 85: Right In Front of You

As I made my way outside, I saw Sam out in front of the venue, talking to more of the fans. I stood back, waiting for him to finish.
"Jess!" One called out, waving over to me. My cheeks burned as I smiled, waving back at them. Sam turned around, making his way over to me. He smirked, reaching out for his sweater.
"Cute." He said softly, and then wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I felt my heart start beating faster.
"They're watching.." I mumbled, peeking up at him. His smile grew as he looked back over at the fans.
"They're always watching, it's fine." He laughed. "They already think you're with Josh. We're just.. two friends getting lunch.. right?" He asked, peeking back down at me. I smirked, biting down on my lip.
"R-right.."
"Hey, where are you guys going?" We heard from behind us. Sam stopped, and we turned around to see Josh standing in the doorway of the venue.
"We're gonna go get lunch." I said, gently moving away. I saw Sam peek down at me, and then look back at Josh, flashing a fake smile. "Do you.. wanna come with us?"
"Oh, no it's alright, I.. I don't wanna-"
"It's okay." I said, waving him over. "Come with us, I want you to." He smiled back at me, looking over at Sam who eventually nodded.
"Yeah." He sighed. "Come on.. before they need us back here."
"I told you it was a bad idea to order drinks." Josh laughed, stumbling out the door. I followed closely, leaning on his shoulder as we made our way down the sidewalk.
"I got you." He said softly, wrapping his arm around me. I felt my cheeks burn as I peeked up at him, giving him a subtle smile.

"Is he gonna be able to play tonight?" I giggled, leaning in close.
"Oh, I play better when I'm drunk" Sam laughed. "Don't you worry."
"I'm sure you do." I said, playfully shoving him.
"What about you?" He asked. "How good are those photos gonna look tonight?"
"Oh, you're definitely gonna need editing." I laughed, reaching up and grabbing onto Josh's arm for balance. He peeked down at me, smirking.
"You okay?" He whispered. My cheeks burned as I looked back up at him, nodding.
As we turned the corner, we were greeted with the screams of more fans who had lined up since we left. I don't think I could ever get used to seeing how many people were willing to wait out early, just for a chance to see the guys for a few minutes, but I couldn't say I blamed them. I held on tighter to Josh's arm, pulling him closer.
"You wanna say hi?" He asked, motioning towards them. I hesitated, but eventually nodded.
"Sure, I'll come with you." I said. He flashed me a toothy grin as he lead us over.
"Hey guys!" Sam yelled, leaning over the barricade, pulling them all into tight hugs. "Thanks for coming out! Are you guys excited for the show? I can't wait." I couldn't help but laugh at how extra friendly he got after he drank, but I'm sure they were all loving it.
"Josh!" Some of them yelled. I moved my arm down, now sliding my hand into his, intertwining our fingers. I could see his lips curve into a bigger smile as he held his stare on the fans, waving to them as he made his way down the line.
"Hey guys! Thanks for coming." He said, reaching over, signing whatever they held out in front of him.

"We're so excited." They said. "I can't believe the tour is almost over. We've been to 4 shows already!"
"Have you?" He asked. "I knew you guys looked familiar. I'm so glad you love the show enough to want to see it again." He giggled, leaning in for a photo.
"Of course, you guys are amazing. Is Jake coming out?" One of them asked. My stomach dropped. I peeked over at Josh who kept his smile.
"Oh, yeah. He'll be out soon. He's still sound checking. You know how he is, such a perfectionist. But I'll make sure he comes out to see you guys, don't you worry." They smiled back up at him, beaming from ear to ear. I couldn't help but smile as I watched him making his way down the line. He was so sweet, so personable with all of them.
"Jess!" I heard. I turned to see someone holding out one of the photos I had taken of Jake. My heart dropped, but I tried my best not to react. "Jess, could you sign this?"
"You.. you want me to sign it?" I asked. She laughed, nodding.
"Yeah, it's such a great shot. Your work is great. And you were stunning in the music video. My dream is to become a photographer one day too, so I really look up to you. And.. I'm so jealous. I'm sure Josh is the best boyfriend." She giggled, her face turning red. I felt my cheeks burn as I quickly signed the photo, smiling back at her.
"Wow, that's amazing. Stick with it, you never know what can happen. And.. y-yeah. He is. I'm really lucky." I said, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Josh turn to look at me, his eyes wide as he flashed me a smile. I peeked over at him, smirking, shaking my head.
Another fan leaned in close, whispering to me.
"Is he really like that in real life?" She asked. "Sometimes he doesn't seem real. Is that just-"
"No, he's really like that." I laughed, signing another photo that was shoved in front of me. "He's.. one of the realest guys I've ever met." I said, peeking back over at him as he leaned in, hugging another fan. I turned back to them.
"So.. if you're gonna pick anyone to wait out for.. he's a great choice." I sighed. She flashed me a smile, moving out of the way to let another fan move up to the barricade.
"How does it feel to have someone write a song like that about you?" They asked, staring up at me, hopeful. It was so weird having people so interested in me like this. In my mind, I didn't do anything, not to deserve being admired like this. I wondered how people ever got used to this kind of attention, if they ever did.
I wondered how Josh felt about it.
I looked back over at him, feeling my heart beat faster.
"You.. you really can't describe it." I said, keeping my stare on him. "The fact that someone can.. think so highly of you to write something like that.. it's overwhelming but.. in a really good way." I said softly, turning back to her.
"And sometimes.. I guess you really don't even realize what's right in front of you until.. someone else reminds you."
