《You're the One - Part 1 || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 13: My Girl

I quickly followed Jake onto the bus, shutting the door behind us. He let his hair down, tossed his sunglasses onto the table and plopped down onto the couch.

"So you really meant all of that?" I asked. He smirked up at me, extending both of his arms out across the top of the couch and nodded.

"Mhm.." he said simply. He was blushing. It was sweet.

I sat down next to him and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer, and gently kissing me on the forehead. My heart started to pound. I looked up at him. He was already staring back, waiting. I knew now after that conversation we had if I wanted anything else to happen between us, I would have to be the one to make the move.

I looked away, and I felt him sigh. I could feel his disappointment.

"So.." he finally said. "When do I get to hear some of what you've written? You said there was some stuff about me. I think it's only fair that I get to see what you're writing about me." He teased. My cheeks were burning. I should've known he wasn't gonna let that go.

"I said I might have written some things about you." He laughed, pulling me closer.

"Then can I see some of the stuff that might be about me?" He asked. I bit my lip, shaking my head at him.

"Not yet." I said quietly.

"Okay, fine."

"You literally write songs, Jake. You think I want you to read what I write in my free time?" He smiled.

"I'm sure they're good if they're about me, right?" I laughed, playfully shoving him.

"So only the ones about you will be good." He laughed, shoving me back.

"So there are ones about me!"

"Stop it!" I yelled, jumping onto him. He stared up at me wide-eyed, catching me, and started to tickle me. I screamed.

"Jake! Stop!" He continued, loudly laughing until I slipped off the couch and onto the floor, pulling him down with me. Rolling over, I landed on top of him. He stared up at me smiling, pushing his hair out of his face. I smiled back, catching my breath.

"You know.." he said, taking my hand. "If you were thinking about kissing me, now would be a great time." I felt my entire face go red.

"Oh, stop it." I laughed, letting go of his hand. I pushed myself from off of his chest.

I avoided eye contact as I stood back up, knowing he was still staring me down with his adorably playful grin. He wasn't wrong though. Of course I wanted to kiss him, and he knew that. But I wanted our first kiss to be... perfect. And I didn't want our story to be on the floor of their tour bus, as much as I knew he didn't care how it happened (and as much as I wished he did).

Soon enough, the door to the bus opened and the rest of the guys piled inside. Josh looked at me and then looked at Jake still lying on the floor, he stayed silent as he walked past, hopping into his bunk.

"What happened here?" Sam asked, smirking at me. I both loved and hated that he knew so much.

"It was nothing." Jake said simply, getting back up off the floor.

"Oh, nothing huh?" he asked. "Is that why we heard some of the fans talking about you outside?" I felt my body get cold. I could only imagine what they were saying when we weren't around.

"What were they saying?" Jake asked, trying to play it cool. I knew he had heard them as we walked by. I appreciated him acting like nothing happened, despite knowing everything was about to change.

"A lot of them are pretty upset that Jake is apparently 'off the market,' as they said." Sam peeked over at me, giving me a questionable look. I glared at him wide-eyed. He giggled to himself.

"I just think we should've discussed this as a band first.." Sam said jokingly. Jake shoved him over.

"I don't have to discuss anyone or anything to the band first." he laughed. Sam shrugged.

"I think you do when she's part of our tour."

"We were just holding hands, I don't see the big deal."

"The big deal is we're all under a microscope now. We all agreed to keep our personal lives private."

"I should be allowed to hold my girl's hand in public." Jake blurted out. My body felt like it was on fire. I plopped down on his bunk, covering my face.

"Oh, excuse me, did I miss something?" Sam laughed. "your girl?"

I mean.." Jake started. His face was bright red. "You.. you know what I mean."

"I don't think I do, Jakey." Sam said, his smile growing. "What's going on here?"

Josh peeked out from his bunk, almost glaring at Jake. I really didn't want this to come up again with him. I got up and went into the back room, shutting the door behind me. I was gonna let them figure out what to do with that. Lying down on my bed, I reached into my end table drawer and pulled out my journal. Flipping through, I got to one of the first things I had ever written about Jake. I started it that first night we all met; I just felt there was something different about him from the moment I saw him.

I can't take it

all I want's right in front of me

I can't fake this

say what you mean

I want to be with you

I had bits and pieces, just sayings and thoughts scattered around the page where in my head I could hear being sung to music, but the last thing I wanted to do was tell an actual musician that I "wrote music" too. It didn't take a genius to know how that would sound. Regardless, I probably wouldn't show him any of these anyway.

There was a knock at the door.

"Come in.." I said, shutting my journal. It was Josh.

"Oh.. hi." I said. He hesitated, but eventually came in gently shutting the door behind him.

"Long time no see." I said, trying to make the situation any less awkward than it has been the last few days. He gave me a small smile and sat down on the corner of the bed.

"I'm sorry for how I acted." He finally said. "You clearly like my brother, and I don't want things to be weird for the rest of the tour. We still have a while together, we might as well be on speaking terms." He said, his smile growing.

"T-thank you." I finally said. I was wondering where this was all coming from, but decided not to question it just yet.

"He talks about you a lot. It's irritating. But.. you make him happy." I couldn't help but smile. He noticed, rolling his eyes. "But just.. don't hurt him, okay?" My face dropped.

"I'd never want to hurt him." He nodded.

"And I know you'd never want to.. but.. if you know you can't be with him the way he needs someone to be with him.. don't string him along." I bit my lip, now looking down at my journal.

"What's that?" Josh asked, reaching for it.

"No, that's not-" He opened it and started flipping through, occasionally stopping on some pages.

"You write?" He asked. I could feel my cheeks burning again. I nodded. He flipped through some more.

"Do you write about Jake?" He asked. I hated that we were having this conversation.

"Yes." I sighed. He smirked at me and continued to flip through.

"Have you written about me?" He asked. I hesitated. He nodded, looking back down.

"Gotcha. Guess you shouldn't ask the questions you don't wanna know the answers to, huh?" He said quietly, keeping his eyes on the page.

"Josh.."

"It's fine."

I could tell from his tone that it wasn't.
