The party was in full swing when Yeji and I had arrived, the loud music greeted us as soon as we entered the hall. I was quite surprised on seeing how packed the place was, some people were standing and drinking while others had taken the dance floor. The goody shoes students were just talking to each on the corners of the room, but most have champagne glasses on their hands and not being themselves anymore.
I looked around in awe, admiring all the fancy and dashing decors of Jungkook's party until someone called out my name which made me turn my head. My gaze landed on Felix who was sitting on one of the sofa while desperately trying to catch my attention.
I walked over to them and saw a few familiar faces sitting next to him, , he teased me, wriggling his eyebrows at me while glancing at me from head to toe.
A chuckle escaped my lips and I playfully hit him on the shoulder before taking a seat next to him. Yiren sent me a small nod once she noticed my presence before continuing to interact with the other girls. Suddenly my sister joined them as well, even taking a seat right next to Heejin.
I tilted my head with my eyebrows furrowed as my gaze constantly changed back and forth between the four girls in front of me. But obviously, the latter was avoiding any possible eye contact with me. She even immediately turned her body away from me as soon as I arrived.
But she still continued listening to whatever the other girls were talking about. Heejin was interacting with the others like they have been bestfriend for years. And since when did they hang out?
A sudden yell made me avert my gaze from the latter and looked up and saw the other basketball players. I immediately shot to my own feet and greeted them with our usual greetings, which includes special fist bumps, high fives and chest bumps.

, Jungkook exclaimed and tapped my shoulder lightly.
I grinned at him and tapped his shoulder as well, , I corrected him which made all of us burst into laughter.
, he patted my back before smirking towards the girl's direction. I followed his gaze which made Heejin immediately looked away.
, Sejeong suggested at me.
The basketball players nodded in agreement which made me chuckle, they turned to their heel and started walking to our spot. Felix and I followed after them until we finally made it into a large L shaped couch which is actually just in front of the main stage.
I didn't even realized that I spent the whole night glued with the other basketball players and even talking to other students from the team that I never talked to before. I was surprised that i was actually enjoying the party more than than I expected, we were all having fun.
Until we got too drunk while playing truth or dare, everyone was pretty much not themselves anymore and eventually leading them to do stupid and embarrassing dares. But every time the bottle of alcohol (that Hyejoo chugged down earlier) will land on me, I'd choose to do truth over and over again instead of doing dares. Besides even in my drunken state, I still care for my reputation and will not allow myself to do stuff that I might regret the following day.
The boys clapped excitedly when the bottle landed on me once again, , Mingyu asked me before taking another sip of alcohol. I didn't even think twice when i told them I chose truth.
They all immediately whined upon hearing my response, , Hanbin complained while pouting. I shook my head at them, completely rejecting his suggestion.
, Lucas playfully punched me on the shoulder.
Felix nodded his head furiously, , he complained.

I scratched the back of my neck while leaning on my back, , Imumbled.
, Yerin said while crossing her arms over her chest. , she raised her eyebrow and smirked at me.
, Jungkook asked while his head to the side.
Jeongyeon smacked the younger boy's head, , she informed Jungkook. Everyone in our table then turned to look at me, as if waiting for my answer at her question.
I huffed before ruffling my hair, I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out. I wasn't thinking straight when I stood up and walked away from them. The boys looked up at me with their eyebrows furrowed together. , I heard Lisa ask.
I chuckled and took another sip of alcohol, wiping my lips with the back of my hand before speaking, , I told them.
I could tell they were confused and was about to ask what i meant, but chose not to. Without thinking twice, I made my over to the stage and tapping the mic to test it.
, I spoke to the mic.
Everyone then went quiet and turned their head to look at me, I grabbed the guitar nearby before facing the large crowd in front of me once again. By now I could see that everyone's eyes are on me, the boys were cheering loudly and applauding for me.
I leaned closer on the mic while looking directly at the latter, , I say which made the crowd go wild. She then ducked her head down, either she's surprised, flustered or embarrassed by the sudden attention everyone was giving her when i said those words.
Clearing out my throat, I grabbed the mic stand and positioned it closer to my mouth. I took a deep breath before starting to strum the guitar, then maintained a firm gaze on the girl who has her eyes widened at me.
My voice bounced on the walls of the room as I tried to calm my pounding heart as everyone went wild hearing me sing and play the guitar. I grinned at the crowd as I sung the lyrics that I wrote (Yiren helped me a bit) with emotion. I was so focused on both singing and playing the guitar that i didn't noticed Heejin already cupping her cheeks as she watched me play. I eventually started blushing, averting my gaze from her but quickly locking eyes with her again.
My heart was jumping and thumping in my chest but I felt a smile creeping on my face that I couldn't control when I was nearing the end of my song. Everyone then applauded when I finished playing but I clearly was not finished at all.
I grabbed the mic stand, leaning closer while maintaining eye contact with her, , I say.
Everyone then went quiet, as if waiting for me what to say next. I took a deep breath, avoiding the pounding in my chest before risking it all.
, I mumbled.

Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
