《Crush Advice》18. Talking to your crush

_______

I met a guy at camp last week. We didn't get to talk a whole lot but he's pretty nice and funny, and he seems like an all around good guy.

We follow each other on Instagram and we had a VERY short conversation a couple of days ago. I want to keep talking but I don't know how to message him without it being too weird, random, and awkward.

And there's at least one future event I can see him at, so it's not like I'll never see him again either.

Apparently and I have the same opinion, so I'm going to speak on behalf of both of us here.

Okay, here we go.

Talking to your crush can be quite stressful, especially if you're shy (like me). So first of all, you absolutely need to act natural.

Just talk to your crush the way you would talk to anyone else. Be yourself. Don't let yourself get intimidated by the fact that he's the boy you like, or the boy you think is cute, or anything starting with the. When you're talking to him (especially when it comes to face-to-face conversations) you need to let all the nervousness and anything that might get in your way literally slip away from your mind.

Okay, now that you've cleared up anything that might make the conversation harder, you need to

You've probably already done this without realizing, but if you're interested in someone, your body will act on it using small gestures: playful nudging, touching, not to mention the more obvious sign such as blushing and the dilation of your pupils. These are all noticeable and are indirect signs that you like him.

Use this and add a little bit of flirting and teasing here and there, and you have a recipe to get your man! *wink wink*

• Texting

When it comes to texting though, things are a little bit different. You can't use your body language anymore, so you need to play solely with the words - which can either be harder or easier, depending on each person.

Start simple. Say hello, ask him how he's doing - you know the drill. And then, so that it doesn't seem like you're texting him out of the blue, make a reference to something that you either discussed already, or something of that sort.

For example: if he said he liked baking, tell him you decided to give it a try yourself and if he could give you a recipe to try. If he said he's good with Maths, ask him to help with an exercise. Or you can even send him a song you think he'd like. Basically try to keep the starting conversation in an area he's already familiar with. That way it would be easier for him to talk about those things and your conversation won't die as fast.

So after the ice has been broken, just go with the flow. If you guys reach multiple subjects and the conversation just flows easily with no awkward pauses or anything, that's a good sign and you can even try and take it to the next level!

You can suggest hanging out one day so you guys can get to discuss more things in person and get to know each other better. If there are some events coming up in the future, even better. You can ask him to come with you there. The more you guys get to hang out, the better!

Hope I covered everything, and if you need more help with anything else, please let me know!

Good luck xx
