《The Human Luna》Chapter 16

Sophia grabbed my hand in hers under the table. I instantly felt the heat from her grip which was tight and firm. She trembled nervously next to me as she assessed the unfolding scene before us all. She was frightened. As it seemed was everyone else in the room as they moved further away from the strangers that stood in the kitchen doorway.
I had but barely blinked and Eleo and risen from where he sat and was all of a sudden standing before me in a dominant protective stance. I looked up, his body was tense and his jaw was clenched. These strangers were an obvious threat.
"We were not expecting you." Eleo spoke hesitantly to the uninvited quests. From what I had learned from my time here, Eleo was by nature a laid back person with the exception of myself that seemed to unsettle him. However, whomever these people were standing before us all, seemed to unsettle him even greater than I had ever.
The woman who had interrupted our conversation just moments ago smiled mischievously and snaked her way further into the room. Hair as black as midnight cascaded around her shoulders, and her eyes green as emeralds made a large scar running down the left side of her tanned face seem prominent.
"A human. Can you actually believe it brother?" The woman cackled and turned to face the ominous figure close behind her.
I gulped at the sight of him. Dark intent radiated from him to every corner of the room. He was the absolute image of Eleo, except older and far more menacing. This man was dangerous, but not in the way I had thought Eleo was dangerous. No, something about this man was far more daunting and unsettling. His eyes were cruel like he had witnessed unspeakable life encounters. He sauntered in following the woman, his aura instantly clouding the room in power making me feel weak and vulnerable.
"I could smell her a mile away." He lowly spat disgust staining each word that left his lips.
The woman laughed again and her demented eyes locked with my own. She seemed absolutely fixated on me. Like I was a rare sight to behold. Almost looking at me as though I was prey to an animal that had been starved for months on end. She slowly approached and Eleo took a step forward towards her in warning.
"Come now brother, don't be so unwelcoming to your own blood." She grinned opening her arms wide in invitation. "Come to me."
Eleo remained silent never wavering from his protective stance on me. The woman lowered her arms slowly and the large grin that was sporting her face slowly fell into a more challenging look.
"Come now, we would have made a formal introduction on your den's border. However, much to our surprise we found no guards stationed nor roaming." She spoke looking around the room at everyone in assessment.
Two huge viscous wolves slowly approached from behind the foreboding strange man and instinctively I shifted closer to Sophia in fear. They stood tall, muscles rippled beneath their glossy pelts and their eyes sparkled with malice. Who on earth were these people?
"Yes well the last few hours have been somewhat hectic, we were attacked by several 'liberation' rogues." Eleo shot back recalling the events of earlier today.

"Thought I could smell rot." The ominous man grumbled spitting on the ground before him. Cold shivers ran down my spine at his next words. "And all because of that human, huh."
His gaze landed on me and I swallowed deeply wishing for anything else. If possible Sophia's grip managed to tighten further on my hand. What did he mean because of me? What was a liberation rogue? Why would they attack because of me?
"Alpha Ezek." Aura cleared her throat standing to her feet. She looked anything but impressed by those standing before us. She gracefully approached Eleo to stand next to him signifying where her loyalties lay.
"Mother." The woman grumbled sizing Aura up. Mother? Hold on... that would mean Aura is Eleo's mother if these were his siblings? How did I not manage to piece that together before now?
"Luna Aura." The ominous man addressed, whose name I now knew was Alpha Ezek. They were all related to one another. My mind was reeling. What on earth was going on here?
"What is your purpose for so rudely interrupting our feasting?" Aura retaliated not bothering to beat around the bush.
I looked to Keith across the table whose eyes were fixated on Alpha Ezek. He was watching the man carefully readying himself for any sign of movement or chaos that may break out. Their stances all led me to believe that a fight was about to occur any second. The room felt heavy.
"Come now mother, my dearest brother. Are you not happy to see us?" The woman feigned hurt before grinning widely. The two viscous wolves approached the woman brushing up against her sides and she lowered her hand running it through their thick pelts of fur. "We all missed you. Didn't we Ezek?"
Ezek looked on at me in disgust remaining silent making no move to answer his sister.
"If you have no business here then leave." Eleo forewarned taking a step towards his siblings. In my time here I had not see Eleo act so sharp and harshly. I was convinced he was a sociopathic cult leader that was dangerous but by the seems of things, Eleo wasn't the one that I should have been scared or most worried over.
"We have business here." Alpha Ezek grunted and spat on the floor once again before him.
"Yes. Your pet human here has been the talk for all dens. Word has reached the elders and .. well they aren't impressed in the slightest." The woman clarified gesturing towards me. "Tell me, how does it feel having a human for the Luna of your pack?"
I had to take a deep breath. Luna as in what we had just discussed just moments ago? I wasn't a member of this village? I had been kidnapped against my free will and was forced to remain here! What did she mean by that? Why was everything in reference to wolves when it came down to these people? Why would she think I was Luna of these people?
"Hold. Your. Tongue. Ravenna." Aura enunciated and for a split second the strange woman seemed fazed before she began grinning once more.
"Hold my tongue? Please. You speak of our ways to her, whats next? You invite her in to our world? To hunt with us? To feast with us? To sleep with us? She is human, or have you forgotten the old laws and ways?!" Ravenna snarled addressing everyone around the room now.

"She doesn't know anything!" Sophia spoke up holding onto me tightly. I could tell she instantly regretted speaking aloud as the woman Ravenna growled inhumanly making Sophia cower in next to me. I too followed suit. What was that noise that resonated from her?
"Know your place Gamma!"
"You are on my land you forget!" Eleo roared defending Sophia and goosebumps covered my body as his voice echoed through the room. His body heaved with anger at the disrespect his siblings gave towards his people. "I will not hesitate my sister, blood or not."
"Enough!" Alpha Ezek snapped and the room fell silent once again. Eleo and Ravenna continued to glare at one another, bloodlust apparent in each of their faces.
"The elders have called us here to see for ourselves. All is talking of the blasphemous crime you are committing to your own kind. A human, may the Goddess damn you to night without her glow and guidance!" Alpha Ezek growled in callous accusation.
"You will not harm her." Eleo returned with just as much force standing tall.
"Brother." Ravenna began shaking her head, a grin no longer sporting her face. "It is the law. You must remove all threats to our kind. Her father and her are as equal to trackers."
Eleo continued to heave heavily and Aura placed her hand upon his shoulder in comfort to try and settle him slightly.
"You will not harm the girl." Aura repeated the words of her son and the entire room took a step forward towards the uninvited quests in agreement. Fear no longer filled the room, instead the members of the village stood ready almost like for battle. But in move to protect me?
"You would turn on your kind for a human." Ravenna questioned looking pained and in shock at Eleo.
Eleo turned to face his people looking over each and everyone of their faces. Ben and Barry stepped forward instantly and spoke for Eleo.
"We would. For her." They spoke in unison. Eleo continued to look at every member of his village and each and every one of them nodded their head in agreement. A smile graced Eleo's lips and he looked to me, the emotion on his face unrecognizable.
"For you." He said aloud. My heart began to pick up its pace. I didn't understand what was going on. For me what? I didn't understand.
"Brother, the moment she laid eyes on the garou you should have acted." Ravenna spoke softly. No smile dared grace her lips. Her voice no longer held malicious intent... only worry now. "They will come for her, and her father."
"You will die. All of you if you dare oppose." Alpha Ezek spoke up, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"We know." Aura spoke on behalf of everyone. The room fell silent once again and no dared speak.
"N-No." I spoke, my voice cracking with anxiety. Why would they wish to kill me?To kill my father? To kill everyone to get to us.
Sophia pulled on me shaking her head as if warning me not to say another word. But I disobeyed and stood to my feet pulling away from Sophia's grip. Bravery fueling my veins at the very thought of people dying over me. I wouldn't allow for such a thing.
"No." I said firmly and Ravenna looked on to me in shock.
"The human speaks now." She laughed assessing me, her eyes twinkling in amusement. "No to what?"
"You can kill me. But my father, these people, no." I said holding my head up high trying to be brave. I would not have anyone die on my behalf even if I didn't understand what was going on.
"Sophia!" Eleo demanded. Without saying anything at all, an understanding was met. Sophia rose from where she sat pulling me along with her. She tried to lead me from the room slowly passed the wolves and Eleo's siblings whose eyes were locked upon us. Where was she taking me? Why were we leaving? No.
I roughly pulled my arm from Sophia's grip.
"No." I demanded once again assertively. "What is going on here?"
Ravenna and Alpha Ezek looked to Eleo not daring to say another word.
"What cat got your tongue all of a sudden? I am sick of this! Someone explain whats going on right now?" I bellowed crossing my arms over each other in insurgency. I don't know where the bravery was stemming from. Anyone in their right mind would have stayed silent and shut the hell up in this situation.
A piercing laugh echoed through the room from Ravenna.
"Explain whats going on? A human like yourself would never be able to understand!"
"Stop referring to me as human. I have a name it's Eliza!" I angrily countered but it only made her laugh louder.
"You really have no idea do you?" Ravenna smirked shaking her head in disbelief.
"No idea of what?" I said in confusion and Eleo rushed to my side.
"Open your eyes human!" Ravenna shouted and I jumped ever so slightly at her outburst. "Can't you piece it together! Your kind really are stupid."
"Piece what?" I looked up to Eleo, his eyes full of pain. He ran a hand through his hair and licked his lips apprehensively.
"Please enough Ravenna." Eleo barely whispered. But she didn't stop.
"No, better yet lets show her shall we?" She taunted and Eleo reached out shoving her instantly. Her body flew across the room with ease and she slammed into a kitchen counter breaking it into pieces at the impact.
Alpha Ezek let out a inhuman growl that made my knees tremble and he turned to face Eleo with murderous intent.
Sophia grabbed me once more and pulled me from the room in haste heading for the staircase. The villagers followed suit and ran for the doorway as the sound of bones breaking and snapping came from the kitchen. What on earth was happening in there? Fear consumed me as I heard the growls of multiple wolves echo from the kitchen.
Eleo.
