《The Human Luna》Chapter 9

"Stay here."

Before I could even register what was going on I was thrown into a room. The door behind me slammed shut and it was locked instantly. Landing on all fours I quickly tried to scurry back onto my feet in attempt to escape. My legs however were still weak and shaky.

"There are two guards outside your door. Don't even think about trying to escape." Keith snarled from the outside but that didn't stop me from pulling harshly on the door handle yanking it as hard as I could. Please open.

"LET ME OUT!"I screamed slamming my fists against the hard wood making the door shake ever so slightly with each impact. But all was silent from the other side. I needed out of here. I needed to escape from here right now.

Panicked I looked around me frantically discovering that I was in a bedroom. It was mainly bare, the walls were painted cream and the floor was covered in a thick grey carpet. A bed stood in the middle of the room with dressers on either side and in the corner of the room was a wardrobe. It was apparent that this was used as a spare room as there were no other furnishings or personal objects of any sort. There was nothing useful that would help me or aid me in my escape to say the least.

My gaze landed on the window that was straight across from me. Running towards it I tried to turn the latch to open it but unfortunately it was also locked. Cursing lowly I banged my two fists heavily against the glass to see if I could make it shatter. But it didn't even quiver. The glass seemed to have been made from a special material of sorts. It was slightly dark in colour and felt almost plastic to touch.

"Assholes!" I roared exasperated looking through the window. Even if it had of been open I wouldn't have been able to escape. I was roughly three stories up in height in what looked to be a huge manor, there is no possible way I would have survived the jump. Towering trees surrounded the area and just down below was a sizeable driveway with an ornate roundabout fountain perched directly in the middle of it.

I was in the village within the reserve. I knew that much. Once I had said it aloud to my kidnappers they had instantly grabbed me and dragged me to this room. I had discovered too much. I knew there was something odd about this settlement as soon as Orla had mentioned it though. Father had found it strange also. But nevertheless what kind of village had buildings this size and was this extravagant?

Turning from the window anxiously I looked around for another escape route. A separate door stood across the room which led straight into an en-suite. But to my dismay there were no windows whatsoever inside. My bare feet felt like icicles against the cold tiles as I walked in catching a glance at my dishevelled appearance in the mirror above the sink.

Honestly I looked hideous. My blonde hair was sticking up all over the place, bruises rimmed my neck and limbs, and my usual blue eyes were swollen and bloodshot from crying so much. I looked like I had been dragged through a bush back and forth countless times.

Sounds of panicked shouting and roaring echoed through the house catching my attention. What was going on? Darting back to the window I leaned my entire bodyweight up against it looking down into the driveway. The Alpha guy and Keith left the house briskly walking out onto the driveway with at least a dozen men following suit after them.

The wind outside was picking up its pace. A storm was rolling in. The trees swayed uncontrollably and the men outside looked as if any second they would be blown off of their feet. And yet all of them were wearing shorts and t-shirts as if it was summer time. It was the midst of winter, any normal person wearing shorts within this sort of climate would take serious pneumonia.

Several jeeps came into view traveling down the path into the driveway pulling up around the fountain. One of which I recognised as my father's Land Rover immediately. Dad. He had come for me. My heart was racing and I couldn't help but keep the smile from off my face. He was here.

Orla got out of her jeep first, followed by two of her deputies and several rangers. Father then followed in action and they all approached the Alpha guy shaking his hand one by one. They began to speak and all I could see was their mouths moving. Father was introducing himself, that much I could make out. He looked pale, his eyes were puffy and purple and his hair was almost as messy as my own.

"DAD!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I banged on the strange glass once again. No one flinched outside apart from the Alpha guy whose gaze turned to meet mine. His eyes were cold and his expression was deadpan. My father shadowed his gaze staring right up at me to see what had caught his attention.

"DAD!" I screamed again. He was staring straight at me? So why wasn't he moving? He asked the Alpha guy a question to which he merely responded by shaking his head and smiling. He just looked at me, didn't he see me? I was just within his line of sight. What was going on?

A lump was slowly beginning to rise within my throat, any hope and thought of escaping from this horrifying place was quickly dwindling. This glass before me, was it made so that no one could see inside? This was bad. Very bad.

The Alpha guy continued to smile at my father nodding his head. What was dad telling him? I was up here, that sick twisted asshole had me locked up as a hostage. The Alpha guy moved his hand placing it reassuringly upon my father's shoulder before gesturing to the men standing behind him.

Orla and her workers began to retreat to their vehicles and several of the men standing behind the Alpha guy trailed after them climbing into the jeeps. My father grabbed the Alpha guy's hand in his own two and squeezed it nodding a thank you at him. What was he thanking him for? Why were the others climbing into the jeeps? Was he asking for assistance for a search party? I was standing right up here!

"Dad! No... No don't leave me!"

Infuriated I ran back to the door and started slamming my fists against it with all the strength I had. "LET ME OUT OF HERE OR I SWEAR TO GOD! LET ME OUT!"

Dad was going to leave me here. He didn't know I had been kidnapped by these insane sociopaths. He didn't know I was here.

"Let me out please!" I cried out once again but it was no use. No one answered. Nothing even stirred on the outside. My body was growing weaker and I leaned my entire body weight up against the door. Tears threatened to spill once amore but I wouldn't let them fall. I wouldn't cry again. I had to remain strong. I was going to get out of here. I had to. My life was depending on it.

My brain went through a reverie of thoughts recalling all the events since I had landed to this town. This stupid god forsaken cursed town. How had no one discovered that the village in the reserve was full of murderous odd cult members who owned wolves and that was run by a psychopathic serial killer?

I swear if I ever get out of this place I'm leaving this town and I'm never coming back. Maybe I'd go to college like Mum had wanted for me. Maybe I'd go and finally make some friends. Maybe I'd leave and go travel around the world. Maybe I'd fall in love and start a family of my own. Or maybe I'd be stuck here for eternity ...

Voices could once again be heard from within the house and it sounded as if someone was shouting demands. After a few moments had passed the sound of footsteps approaching echoed from just outside the door and the lock began to turn as a key was shoved into it.

Jumping back from the door I waited for my intruder to enter. This was my chance. My only chance to escape. I had one shot at this, I had to catch them off guard. Once the door opened I ran with all my might and shoved the person standing in the door way backwards. Which just so happened to be Keith. And my plan actually worked.

Keith fell into the two guards outside the door knocking them all to the floor with him. I didn't stall or hesitate to jump into flight. Instinctively I leaped over him and ran down the staircase as fast as my legs could carry me. When they were escorting me to the room earlier we had passed the front door on our way up the staircase so luckily enough I knew exactly where I needed to go. No one seemed to be around either. God was on my side.

Roars echoed from upstairs and I could instantly tell Keith and the guards were hot in pursuit after me. And boy did they sound angry. Two double doors stood before me as I came to end of the staircase and I pulled them open running outside and down the steps into the driveway. Where should I go?

All my fear was bubbling to the surface. I was beyond terrified. This was my only shot at survival. But I wasn't going to go down without a fight. They couldn't keep me here. I would escape.

Adrenaline kicked in and I darted towards the trees dodging and flinging my body between each one. Gnarled roots threatened to trip me up at every turn and my bare feet stung from the painful contact of the forest floor covered in sharp stones, sticks and soggy mud.

"ELIZA!" A roar echoed through the air and a wave of dizziness washed over me as the sound hit my ears. It was the Alpha guy. What was wrong with me all of a sudden? My body grew weaker with every step that I took away, it felt as though my entire being was trying to drag me back in the direction of his voice.

My hair blew hectically around my face from the gale force winds attempting to block my sight. Where would I go? I didn't know these mountains.

"Shit!" I screamed sliding to a halt along the forest floor just in time. Clutching onto a tree I stopped dead in my tracks staring down at the steep slope edge right in front of me. That was a close call. It was basically vertical and sharp boulders were distributed naturally jutting out of the earth. I needed to get down to the bottom though? But how was I meant to get down there without hurting myself?

Suddenly howls echoed through the air making me spin around instantly. My heart stopped beating and my eyes widened with fear. Large animistic shapes were running towards me between the trees. They looked like bears from afar but I knew they weren't. They were wolves. They had released them.

Was this my fate? Was I going to be brutally mutilated and torn apart by rabid wolves? I was beyond drained and exhausted at this stage, so much that my body did the worst thing imaginably possible. It shut down. As my eyes began to blur over my body plummeted backwards down the slope and then all went black.
